  1. Great day on Nipissing, up at 5 am, in bed by 10:30. I think captain iFish4real was up at 4 am and probably in bed past midnight. Day time bite was hot. I t-boned this 28" er dead smack in the middle of the day.

  2. Another great week at Sandy Haven Camp on Nip/Upper French. Been going there for over 35 years and its about as good as it's ever been. Three generations of Dietz boys hit the Nipissing grand slam. Boated two muskies, had hooks in two more and numerous follows. The walleye bite was hot with 40-50 fish days and limits of keepers. Bass fishing, smallies and largemouth, was real good too. That place is on fire!

  3. Got a late start yesterday and the bite lasted maybe an hour but the lady friend got herself into a big GBay laker Long weekend traffic out there was crazy. Also got stopped by a CO checking licenses, had a quick chat, talked some fishing and he was on his way. 34inches on the tape.

  5. They are spiny water fleas. They haven’t been much of an issue this year because the waters been cold. By now they are usually a problem. They stick to braid like snot to a doorknob. You’ve been given good advice. They still stick to 30lb big game a bit, but not bad and easy to remove. The are a non issue with wire divers. Flea flicker hasn’t been available for several years now. I still have a bulk spool of 20lb.

  6. With the smoke this unit puts out,I had to run an extension cord out to the pasture allowing the n/w wind to flow the smoke away. LOL I do not want to piss off the neighbors. I did have one come out and ask for a sample when it was done. I couldn't get the smoker past 155 deg. Tucked away out of the wind. I could of had it in the sun like the old one,but I want to see what it could do. These chunks were thicker then I would usually do, but I wanted to give the new smoker a work out. A light brush of Canadian maple and 6.5 hours later, it,s done. I sampled a piece and it was good, but I like it cold the next day. Really give the true taste IMO.

  7. Irons right, fish move all of the time, heck they move from hour to hour. last week I had a tournament and did a pre-fish Friday, hit spot one, had a keeper within three casts, hit spot 2 around the corner, another one, said this is going to be awesome tomorrow. was seeing schools of bait and surfaces all over the water. went back the next day in almost identical weather. And it was a ghost town. Got skunked for two straight hours and had to completely switch my game plan. fish adapt, meaning you gotta too. Different spots, different baits, different depths, different retrieves. Keep switching until you find the pattern. I eventually found the pattern, but by that time I was limited on time and could only find the dinks.

  8. It might be that you aren't doing anything wrong it may be the fish have left for different water. Fish migrate for many reasons. And as has been mentioned what ever bait you use it should mimic an easy meal. Fish are smarter than they look. When fish, and us humanoids, see an easy meal that doesn't take much energy to catch we both go for it 1st. Buffets and fast food places for us, a slow injured bait for fish. Sometimes something like a bit of red nail polish on a lure will trigger a fish as it looks like blood. I've read that fish are colour blind, maybe maybe not. Personally I don't think they are or they can tell the difference between shades of black & white.

  9. I would try throwing a senko to see if there are fish around that just aren't in the mood for chasing. Is it possible your spot gets hit hard by others since it's a shore spot? That might have an impact on your success.

  10. Froggin is one my favourite techniques, and I've learned a ton over the last couple years. - Use a soft body frog like a Live Target. They compress really easily. I use these in slop and pads. I use Spro Bronze eye popping frogs in grass or more open water. The spro's are not as soft, so spend some time "working it in" with your hands when you take it out the package, kind of like working in a new baseball glove. - Trim the tails. I trim the length to about 2-2.5 inches in length. This creates a more compact profile, and a fish that only wants to "smack" the bait comes closer to the hooks this way. - Bend the hooks out. Flip the frog over the hooks and turn it around so the hooks are totally exposed. Take two pairs of pliers and put one one each hook, and bend each one away from the other at the same time. This will expose the hook points more (yes, a bit less weedless but will hook up far better) - Sharpen the hooks!! This never gets talked about. While you still have the hooks exposed, take a hook file and sharpen each hook until they are sticky sharp (if your thumbnail "sticks" to the hookpoint, rather than slides across it, you're good to go). Think about a bass hitting the frog, and maybe not grabbing it totally. Dull hooks will allow the fish to just slide right off if you don't get a solid hookset. The sticky hooks help to keep the bait just pinned enough to give you the time to react and set the hook. I've noticed my hook ups have gone way up since I've started doing these things.Another thing is to make sure the rod you are using is stout enough and has a fast enough tip to set the hook quickly. Yes, many times a frog will get "smacked" instead of eaten. I've found if a larger fish smacks the frog, the sticky hooks sometimes help to pin the frog to the fish and you can set the hook. A lot of smaller fish will smack the legs and may not hit again. Hope this helps
