Orca Posted April 1 Report Posted April 1 Hey guys, Near North had a cold winter with lots of ice this year. It should be interesting to see whether it takes longer than usual (?) for it to melt the entire lake. Here on Lake Nipissing, the water level in the late fall was (for some reason) very low. I wonder if it will extend into May this year. It has on occasion in the past. https://www.nugget.ca/news/when-will-lake-nipissing-be-ice-free
AKRISONER Posted April 2 Report Posted April 2 well, i was ice fishing on sunday, on the sound in parry sound, and the long range forecast looks pretty cold at least for the next couple of weeks. Im going to guess nippising wont be ice free until May this year unless late april really really warms up. Even looking at Lake simcoe, it only seems to have started to break up a bit within the last few days. Thats a heck of a lot of ice to melt, although once its fails a good wind can really speed up the ices decline. 1
CrowMan Posted April 2 Report Posted April 2 Substantial areas of open water up here in Central Frontenac. Another week or two at most before it's gone. It's usually a good blow from the south-west that finally does it.. 1
waterfrontdinning Posted April 3 Report Posted April 3 i'm done for this year, but i'm definitely heading north to extend the season next year.
limeyangler Posted April 4 Report Posted April 4 Shaping up to be a normal ice out this year, 1st week of May.
