LureThemIn Posted October 4, 2023 Report Posted October 4, 2023 (edited) Hey all! Name is Andrew. I live around Bancroft. Just getting into fishing. I want to say it's after a long hiatus, but i've been out more in the past 2 months (8-9 times) than when I was younger, so ... shrug Figured i'd be social and say hello. Maybe that's just the old fashioned in me lol Figured I could add a bit more ... my initial intention is to be fishing for food as much as for fun. Not interested in trophy monsters, but who knows, maybe that'll change. Don't have a motorboat ... yet. Will see how things go next year through the summer. I do, however, have a SUP and fishing kayaks. So far i've only fished from shore. Still getting used to the idea of actually moving around on a sup or kayak. Maybe if there isn't too much rain this weekend I'll give that a go. So far i've caught pickerel (walleye), lmb, smb and a (thankfully small) pike. Only the pickerel was big enough to keep/eat. Having fun, learning lots, both of which are important to me. Looks like a good place to hang out here in the meantime. Thanks. Edited October 4, 2023 by LureThemIn Adding info 5

LureThemIn Posted October 6, 2023 Author Report Posted October 6, 2023 Thank you all for the welcome. Yes, looked like a good group when I was snooping around before I decided to ... dive in! Ah terrible, I know. :D 1
Weeds Posted October 8, 2023 Report Posted October 8, 2023 Hi, welcome! If you live near Bancroft you’re not too far from Silent Lake Provincial Park. A good spot to fish if you’re confined to shore or a nice place to use your SUP or kayak as it’s a non motor lake. I’ve only ever fished it briefly and caught small smallmouth but it’s my understanding that some decent trout fishing (and eating) is to be had. I’m assuming there’s probably alot of good lakes up your way; I’m just not very familiar with the area. Anyways, best of luck 1

Tips and tricks are always appreciated. It'll soon be 5 years I moved up here and I'm now constantly looking at everything (all the water bodies anyways) different than before I had an interest in fishing. Funny how that works. Spending lots of time on Google maps lol

Spending lots of time on Google maps lol If you're doing some exploring, FishONLine is your friend. Not only a topographic/satellite map, but the app also indicates what fish are present, when & how many fish stocked, regulations & seasons, boat launches, etc for practically every water body in Ontario. Lots of little backwoods stocked trout lakes in the Bancroft area, where half the adventure is just getting to them...summer and winter... https://www.lioapplications.lrc.gov.on.ca/fishonline/Index.html?viewer=FishONLine.FishONLine&locale=en-CA Edited October 10, 2023 by CrowMan

That's a very handy link indeed. Understood with the adventure. Trails around here are amazing. Never thought about getting around with the ATV to go to some of those tucked away spots ... until now. Thank God I'll be getting some overtime this winter lol $$$ 1
