I watched one of these yesterday, well two of them, diving all morning. What grace. They were huge. I wish I had my other cam with me. Just a little expensive out on the toon to drop in the water..

If they were huge probably Caspian terns these guys are small

I would say wing span was 2-3 ft

Caspian Tern is about the size of a Ring Billed Gull and straight orange beak

 

Common Tern is smaller with a Black tip on a redish beak

Caspians are beautiful birds with one of the ugliest calls you'll ever hear. Sounds like someone being strangled while vomiting. You can tell them a mile away.
