Old Lures etc.

Hi Guys,

 

Relative handed me down some old gear and tackle. Of note was the lure below-looks unused and good shape, and an older spin reel. Any idea of the age of these items. I suspect 1950's to 1960's, there are a few other lures that are similar but not in as good shape. Anyone recently fished an older lure? How would you fish these things?

In a shadow box, those are possibly quite valuable.

That lure is or is a copy of a South Bend " Bass O-Reno" it could date from well b4 1950, It is a floating bass lure, flish it much like a Jitterbug , steady retrieve with a few stops and jerks here and there. The reel I think would be at least late 60's even newer perhaps. Most of the early spinning stuff didn't have bearings.

What Dave said, there are a few of the Roddy spinning reels on ebay, I didn't see that particular model, but like 5 to 30 bucks or so.

Buddy of mine is the Prez of the antique lure ass, he told me that in some cases the box is worth more than the lure.

Thanks guys for the info, not planning on selling these things-will be a family keepsake, mostly interested in the history! Will give one them a try this summer-maybe give the spinner reel a go to!-skdds

All the more reason the make a display bow for the wall. Just my two cents.
