This poor fish still had enough left in it to hit a fly not long after it had been attacked itself. My guess is an otter as the teeth marks suggest on the bottom of the fish. The other side of the fish had another round gash with a few nail holes in its side with lots of bruising. Nature's "preditor/prey" relationship.

Did it make legal size so you could put it out of its misery? It is amazing that it still took a fly with all that damage.

Fish do not feel pain, so it may have healed and carried on business as usual

That's going to be a giant otter with teeth marks like that! I'd guess big laker/pike

i've seen otters over 25 lbs. otter is a pretty good hypothesis IMO.

Was me........but I realized it was not cooked .....so I declined. LOL

All kidding aside. Just wondering if it was a turtle. Appears to have been struck from beneath. Wound appears to be "v" shaped similar to a turtles mouth.
