bullybass Posted June 25, 2011 Report Posted June 25, 2011 (edited) Don't let him bite you!!! You won't be happy. It is a giant water bug I believe. Apparently there have been reports of bites that are extremely painful with excessive swelling and loss of use of the hand for about 2 weeks. Handle with care!! And yes... they also fly!! Oh right... also... Great Macros!!! very crisp and clean!! Edited June 25, 2011 by bullybass

bullybass Posted June 28, 2011 Report Posted June 28, 2011 Hey .. Thanks Dude............I searched the internet four two hours last night and came up empty. Now I know it is a Giant Water Bug No Problem at all.... I researched it a couple of years back just before trying to pick it up for my, at the time, 3 year old son. Wouldn't have been fun explaining that one to the wife!! hahaha
Joey Posted July 15, 2011 Report Posted July 15, 2011 They fly too. When I used to live on the Denison Mines townsite in Elliot Lake, there was a few days in June when they flew all over the place, bombarding us kids. They are very spazzy flyers too. Not too coordinated so if they were coming straight at you, it didn't matter if you dodged left or right, they usually hit you. Great pic of that bug from my past
Dave Bailey Posted July 15, 2011 Report Posted July 15, 2011 Here's a Wikipedia link, apparently they're considered a delicacy in Thailand.
