Walleye Spawning

Just down at the lock in Lindsay and there are walleye in for the start of the spawn if anyone wants to check it out. They're on the south side.

I know what a chain pickerel is...Canadian's call them grass pike....we catch them in Oneida Lake all the time while fishing for Yellow Pike (pickerel)....

 

Yellow Pike is a Buffalo nickname for pickerel because Lake Erie once had Blue Pike...

OK, so then...

 

a "Yellow Pike" is actually a Pickerel,

a "Yellow Pickerel" is actually a W a l l e y e, and

a "Blue Pike" is actually a Blue W a l l e y e??

You got that all correct expect "Blue Pike" WERE a cousin of the Yellow Pike...but a now extinct species.
