bucktail Posted January 13, 2011 Report Posted January 13, 2011 Looking to get few new planer board rods for the spring. Looking for mostly a brown trout-walleye action rod. hoping to have a little more fun with the fish then can come on my big downrigging rods. Cheaper would always be better but looking for a nice light and responsive rod. Any recommendatons out there??? Darren
Headhunter Posted January 13, 2011 Report Posted January 13, 2011 In-line planer boards or a mast system? HH
Spiel Posted January 13, 2011 Report Posted January 13, 2011 Good question HH, glad to see your not sleeping at work.

Bob Devine Posted January 14, 2011 Report Posted January 14, 2011 Bang for your buck the Okuma Classic Pro GLT Rod - CP-PB-7101M-T http://www.okumafishingteam.com/dyn_family.php?k=303182 the rod is 7'10" and telescopic if you are think you need a longer rod the 8'6" works too. Even better probably only $35-40 CDN
moemoe Posted January 14, 2011 Report Posted January 14, 2011 I don't troll for walleye very much, but stolen from steve-hamilton, a guy that does he swears by shimano clarus 9 ft heavy, I like the clarus bait cast rods, I believe it is an im7 blank, and lifetime warranty for a rod around $100
Moosebunk Posted January 14, 2011 Report Posted January 14, 2011 http://fish.shimano.com/publish/content/global_fish/en/us/index/products/rods/salmon_steelhead/Clarus_Salmon_Steelhead_Casting.html Great rod. The medium is rated for 8-17lb test with a moderate action. Usually used for casting, I've used it on the rigger, with planer boards on BOQ, for trolling Great Bear Lake lakers, and for casting to arctic char and big pike. Very versatile and they'll serve ya well.

bucktail Posted January 14, 2011 Author Report Posted January 14, 2011 Thats awesome guys! Thanks looks like ill pick up a few Clarus's before April brownies start!! Darren
Raf Posted January 14, 2011 Report Posted January 14, 2011 i use a 8'6 clarus 'steelhead' action rod as my light board rod they come in spinning and casting flavours. it works with the offshore or smaller church walleye inline boards fine for spring trout.
