ohhenrygsr Posted May 15, 2009 Report Posted May 15, 2009 Hey Guys what's the best size Anchor Rope for a 10Lb Anchor. Would a 1/4" poly Rope be ok or 3/8" be better?
irishfield Posted May 15, 2009 Report Posted May 15, 2009 1/4 is a tad hard to get a hold of and pull in. I'd go 3/8ths...
taper Posted May 16, 2009 Report Posted May 16, 2009 I agree with Wayne 3/8 ths. Quarter can be a killer on your hands. Also If you can, spend the extra couple bucks and get a better quality rope that is soft. Don't opt for the cheap yellow polypropylene it does not hold knots very well and is tough on your hands. Lastly get a 4-6 foot length of chain to ad to the anchor end of your rope.
jace Posted May 16, 2009 Report Posted May 16, 2009 Or even better, use the buoy and ring trick to bring up an anchor.
Greencoachdog Posted May 16, 2009 Report Posted May 16, 2009 1/4" isn't that bad, but 3/8" is better... I'd go with a nylon instead of the cheap poly crap though!!!
ch312 Posted May 16, 2009 Report Posted May 16, 2009 Or even better, use the buoy and ring trick to bring up an anchor. ?????
POLLIWOGG Posted May 16, 2009 Report Posted May 16, 2009 For most this is going to be the only rope in the boat and if the poop hits the fan what are you going to do with a 1/4 " rope. I sure wouldn't want to tow with a 1/4" nylon. Prepare for the worst.
