HAHAHA.. that formula really pumps up my ego on my PB 38/39 ! LOL

I figure this, Jenny Craig, one only weighed 5 lbs tops... but if they say it weighs 15.7... well I'm okay with that! :D

That pike doesn't need Jenny Craig.. It just purges after a binge. :whistling:

Funny lookin fish!! Indicative of a northern eutrophic lake with a poor forage bassin..

Theres not way its only a 10 pounder! We weighed a few pike the first year we fished there, and an early May 36 incher was 12 pounds - which means an March 40 incher can mos def be 18 pounds!

<---- How big do you recon this one was?? At 45 inches, my guesstimate was damn near 30 pounds.

Thats a nice hungry Pike there Wayne, the hungry ones are fun to catch because they cooperate better! :thumbsup_anim:

We have snakes down here bigger around than that thing.

I don't think that pike is 18lbs, but it is still a nice fish. Your picture does it no justice -- The first pike is 41.5" (biggest islands pike) and fat but it's a crappy picture, the second is a 32" that is very fat.

never weighed the buckshot pig just wanted her to live another day.but i would say shes well over 20,the buckshot i think was from spawning.all the blood u see is from my well lacerated fingers, caught a few rakers trying to get her in.going up north soon to moosebunks back yard to try for another pig.watch for the post.

its lymphosarcoma ... very common amongst, but not limited to spawning fish,

Here is a typical 36 inch March pike from harbour. Mostly roe laden females there.

F1000005.jpg

thats a solid 8-10 pounder

I always thought this fish my buddy caught weighed around 13 - 15 lbs.

Little different habitat and time of year than Irishfield skinny pike there.

But whatever...

Now that looks like a 15 pounder .. has about the same length as the original post but look at the girth on that baby ...

Lets just clarify that I wasn't questioning Snags fish weight.... was only making fun of the weight calculator!!!!!

And HD you are correct a Temagami back lake..flyin/hike in only with very little forage.

And Dawg... may have been a fish needing a meal... but took 5 follows to get this guy to take the bait. Maybe he was just shy on the energy needed to open and close his mouth. :D

Watch that vertical hold Bubba... there's folks around here that get pretty "ill" aboot that!

That was almost ten years ago when I didn't know better -- much more careful with esox nowadays.

Thanks Wayne,

Always believed in the truth will protect you.

The Calculators were a bit of a joke, as you can see by their titles.

Otherwise, this next fish would be in the negatives (your snake is longer........call me) :whistling:

Gadzooks!

When I see this post go on a few pages and hit 2000 reads guess I should help clarify things a bit more.

I finally did a test and I was right. I took my digital scale and weighed a bag at 19lbs.

The same bag weighed roughly 17 lbs. on the BPS $20 lipgrip.

These are the 15lb. econogrip LOL!, The BPS 30lb. grip and my 50lb. dig. scale.

med_gallery_82_84_116380.jpg

Here is why I bought one in the first place.

I can’t haul the proper net around with me shore fishing that would ensure that my catch remains unharmed. A good cradle or Large, thick open net is not practical.

The girth on these pike were also too thick to get my fingers across their backs (try lifting 15+ lbs. pinching a slimy, thrashing, pike upside down in frozen water!)

As Dan mentioned, more harm will be caused to the fish weighing it and my digital scale is never quickly, easily accessible.

So I went and bought a lipgrip for the 1st time.

The first fish I used it on was this one and it maxed out the 15lb. scale so I decided a heavier/longer one is in order for massive March pike.

Here is that pike again. Same size as the original post.

med_gallery_82_84_52916.jpg

BPS had a sale and I bought another one (30lbs.) knowing that any scale like this is not accurate.

One day I hope to buy a lipper with digital scale when I can afford it.

As you can see in EHG’s post that Pike is a nice fat March pike. Guesstimated at 15lbs tops.

The pike I originally posted is close to the 40” mark.

The girth was approx. 20”.

That same pike will slim down soon. Drop at least 5 lbs. and then gradually bulk up again next March.

The pic of 4thgens pike is not a thick as mine. It looks like a spring/early summer/ early fall pike. Love to catch that baby in March!

I’ll admit again that the pic is poor. I am arching it’s head parallel to mine.

If I had a better angle you would see a thick top and fatter belly.

In a complete horizontal hold the belly sometimes sags and looks very impressive.

I am supporting the head and belly semi-vertical. My arms are bent.

I also tried to crop the picture to conceal the location and remove my face.

I don't think this helps:

med_gallery_82_84_14317.jpg

O.k. I know that I’m a bit of a joker around this board. :whistling:

Those that fish with me know that I’m a pretty conscientious angler.

I don’t exaggerate or lie about a catch. It makes me sick when others do because I get excited about other anglers catches too.

If anyone cares to challenge me in any of my previous posts, they’re all there for the picking.

I admit again that the pic does not represent the catch.

I have to say that I find it perplexing that those who still stand by the 8-10 stance are both accomplished anglers whom make a living from the sport and who’s skills exceed mine.

I would take them at their word if they said what they caught did not match a poor pic.

By now, perhaps I would hope I had some credibility.

(Sure the Dollarama threads don't help my case!)

Hope it’s nothing personal boys.

I remember what Lew told me when he explained why he’d given up posting reports.

He folded his arms, rolled his eyes and said. “Too many “experts” on the board”

This is the first time I’ve ever been criticized for a catch.

Not sure where the mistrust comes from. I’ve never met my detractors and rarely brag about weight or length.

Both comments made are fairly resolute in their opinion that the Pike is not what I claim it to be.

What more can I say. I caught it. Weighed it. Critically analyzed the information, reduced the weight and reported.

I cannot have a margin of error of 8lbs. It's absurd.

Without a scale, I can now estimate my sole target organisms weight and length pretty good.

Here come some examples.

Well these are some that are kicking around in my "albums" here anyways. All GTA pike.

More in my puter but I think this'll help.

I'm not grandstanding. As a matter of fact you'll notice this year I try to edit my face out whenever I can.

2 categories: 5-10lbs and 10lbs+ there's some spill over.

This post has just gone too far. I made a post stating that I believed the pike was 8-10 pounds, looking at the picture again and again and again, I could have made a mistake, it is a nice fish, and as you said the picture doesnt do it justice. I would still say around 14, but either way, nice catch, i hope this is done with.

You really haven't missed anything.

Just an oversensitive has-been with too much time on his hands!

There are only so many spots that are land accessible

Actually, That's kinda the point!

What I meant was, most people probably know the spots already, so not much point in blurring the pictures.

Not knocking your fish, because they are beauties, thats for sure.

Good job.

Cheers,

Dan is right........ weighing the fish isnt necessary a quick tape on it and a photo.

Hard to tell from that picture. Thats the bummer when you are fishing alone. If you want a real measurement you either have to keep the fish or keep it out of the water longer.

I once had a muskie on by nmyself that was so big that after I realized its size I don't know what I would have done!

1 week to go on Lake O.... there is a 30 pounder waiting for someone.

My avatar is a 48 inch fish but I didnt measure it around so when I had the reproduction done at Advanced I told him to fit the girth. Turns out it was close to 24 inches around.

I call it a 30 but it could have been anywhere from 27-33 lbs.
