bigcreekdad Posted October 11, 2007 Report Posted October 11, 2007 FRom reading posts on this, as well as other, site, it is quite apparent the care that is given to caught fish in order to make sure they survive the experience. I've often wondered why we all don't go barbless to further help the fish survive. I fish some for pike and lakers with a fly rod, and always pinch down my barbs, and I have seldom lost a fish because of it. Keeping a tight line is mandatory, of course. Anyone have any thoughts on this?
bigcreekdad Posted October 11, 2007 Author Report Posted October 11, 2007 I should also add that when baitcasting for muskie I have not gone barbless....don't want to come across as "holier than thou".
Terry Posted October 11, 2007 Report Posted October 11, 2007 I believe that barbless is (should be) the future of all catch and release fishing including all tourneys
JFR Posted October 11, 2007 Report Posted October 11, 2007 Buy yourself a good set of bolt cutters such as Knipex. I prefer cutting the hook.
corvette1 Posted October 11, 2007 Report Posted October 11, 2007 i have fished in england.manatoba. sak.for pike allbarbless just keep it tight
Musky or Specks Posted October 11, 2007 Report Posted October 11, 2007 I keep a box of 5/0 and 6/0 trebles on board. I use my Beckman net as a liivewell and dont even try reversing the hooks out . I just use the bolt cutters and cut them off. Its not like I go through a box of hooks a day(although that would be awesome) I might have to do it 3 or 4 times on a good day.
Guest gbfisher Posted October 11, 2007 Report Posted October 11, 2007 "5/0 and 6/0 trebles" little over kill for specks isnt it?
lookinforwalleye Posted October 11, 2007 Report Posted October 11, 2007 All my Musky baits have the barbs pressed down, better for the fish and better for me if a accident happens.
