  1. thanks for the tips. my tackle is packed and ready to rock. pics will be posted shortly after our return along with some gopro videos
  2. since walleye are open where you were fishing, i'm assuming you took 6 walleye instead of the 4 that you're supposed to or kept walleye over the size limit? i don't think it's wise to post poaching on the internet. this is why you're suppose to check the regs BEFORE you head out fishing.
  3. what lures and tackle should i take along for our trip to florida? i've found quite a few places to fish on the east side and the keys, but can't figure out what to take. i figure a 7-8ft medium action ugly stick with 40lb PP will work, but what about tackle? let's say i catch a couple keepers. will i have any problems crossing the border with a few fish? what about gator and other exotic meats? i've looked on the border services website, but can't find anything about these meats.
  4. last i heard, that goes for 2-up atv's as well... you mean kawasaki brute force that would be awesome if yamaha and kawi teamed up. you'd have the dependability of a yamaha, but with the power of the brute force's twin. now THAT would be a dream machine. until then, i'll stick with the most reliable...yamaha grizzly you're right about polaris though. perfectly fine for the average rider, but a bad idea if you plan on driving your machine like it's stolen. capt pierre, your money would be better spent on a brand that has proven reliability. polaris are the #1 major brand you'll find in shops getting repairs and the #1 major brand with the most complaints, hence the reason used popo's are cheaper than other major brands. as with any other machine, the ones with higher resale values are better quality.
  5. while i understand where you're coming from, i see no harm in posting reports on water conditions, daily catches, or what presentations worked that day. a general report like this causes no harm. IMO, your post is worse than the OP as it states a specific place to fish. you're clearly against people posting reports on rivers, but yet you tell everyone there's fish to be caught in angus. just sayin...

    Possum

unfortunately, i don't have any that i can think of. this was about 10 years ago or longer and i've lost any that i had. walking around the neighborhood with him on my shoulder definitely got a few reactions to say the least. as for oppossums being aggressive after being cornered. show me a wild animal that isn't willing to defend itself after being cornered. coons, possums, squirrels, rats, canines, felines, groundhogs, nearly everything around here will defend itself. hell, even gerbils and hamsters are known for biting their owners when they don't want to be bothered. it's something called instinct
  7. pssssst...he said a TRUCK a used 06-08 full size truck with 80-100,000 kms can be had for $10-$14,000 if you shop around enough and will be far more family friendly. you'll definitely want a full size truck for hauling nearly 3,000 lbs on a regular basis and the extra room will be needed. 4x4 would be en excellent idea as well for ramps with little or no maintenance and if you're going to be boating in the winter months. a used boat and a used truck will save you tons of cash.

    Possum

considering i had a possum from baby to 2 years of age, i'm probably the only one here that would suggest relocating it. their life expectancy in the wild is only 18 months, so he won't be around long anyways. it's amazing how easy it was to litter train him and it was like having a cat, but way cooler and more affectionate than most cats. he tops the list for my coolest pet so far.
  9. i'd understand trying to recover costs for cleanup if it was the homeowners negligence that caused the explosion, but to make the guys life even harder, especially at this time of year, is absolutely ridiculous. get off your lazy butt and start raking, sweeping, and vacuuming. if your driveway is clear stone, use a rake and the small pieces of glass will settle deep enough. if it's granular A (sand/stone mix) it should be compacted enough that you could actually sweep the loose stone, sand, and glass without disturbing the compacted stuff. i've done it many times. btw...odds are you don't walk on a gravel driveway with bare feet, so small pieces of glass shouldn't concern you. if your grass is long, cut it with a mower on one of the lowest settings and then use a leaf blower to blow any glass to one side of your yard before raking or using a shop vac. when you're done that, go ask your neighbors if there's any way you can help them out.
  10. maybe not, but making a call to 911 to report a careless and possibly drunk driver is fully legal on your part. some simple questioning by mr copper could lead to being busted with stolen merchandise, drugs, dui, stolen car, no license/insurance, etc. "yes, i believe there is a drunk person following me that is swerving all over the road and has nearly ran into my boat twice". with my zero tolerance for crap like this and knowing full well the cops cant/won't do anything, confronting them before i made it home would definitely cross my mind more than once.
  11. they work great, but make sure you anchor them down VERY good. they'll catch wind like a sail and will quickly damage whatever you're storing in it. i thought 8" spikes hammered into a compacted gravel driveway with a 60lb block on each corner would be enough to hold it down and prevent any movement. but, seeing as i walked out one morning to find the shelter had moved 6ft causing a nice gouge in the side of my truck, i guess i was wrong.
  12. it must be different for different styles of vehicles. i remember watching a mythbusters episode where they tested this myth and discovered that the car was in fact more aerodynamic going forwards.
  13. most people that have these mounted on their sleds and atv's don't use their hand warmers very often as these covers stop your biggest enemy....wind.
  14. LOL...you put them on your handlebars and then slide your hands into these. excellent for keeping the wind off your hands while keeping them dry at the same time. you guys are concerned about keeping your hands from sweating while im concerned about trying to keep my hands warm. i have a bad problem with circulation in my hands, so the rest of my body can literally be sweating while my hands are ice cold with a few white fingers. i have to do the "windmill" to force blood back into my hands and fingers. having to wear gloves when it's 5 degrees out sucks big time...
  15. so, even though the sway bar links didn't seem loose, i changed them today and problem solved. once i got them off the car they were so loose they sounded like a baby rattle. many thanks OFC :worthy:
  16. please don't tell me you're one of those "there's not a single cougar in ontario" people. last year a buddy and i watched one jump in front of us about 20-30ft away while we were on the atv's. he saw the entire body while i just caught the back half and tail as it jumped across the trail. we're both 100% sure of what we saw. this was in mount pleasant, 10 minutes southwest of brantford. proof? we searched for over an hour trying to locate some tracks, but even with my tracking skills we couldn't locate a single one.
  17. thanks for all the help guys. i've ordered new bushing and links for the sway bar as it's the only thing with any play and seems like the most common problem. i took the car for a spin yesterday and the alignment is fine. the clunk is much louder when traveling below 40-50 km/h and it will clunk every time when swerving from side to side at 15-20 km/h. i still can't understand how mr mechanic said it's normal...
  18. 2000 corolla with 110,000kms when we bought the car, the front passenger tire had about half the tread remaining compared to the other 3 tires. there is a rather loud clunk in the front end when driving over bumps that mysteriously disappeared after getting the car oil sprayed. we both think the clunk is coming from the passenger side, which suggests this problem is what caused the tire to wear much faster than the rest. took it to a mechanic and he said it's normal, but it's a loud enough clunk that you'd think something is very loose/worn. definitely not a normal sound. -cv joints have zero play -struts seem fine as the car doesn't keep bouncing after jumping on it -both wheels have zero play when i hold sides and top/bottom of tire -engine doesn't make a clunk when moving it in all directions -tie rods are tight the only thing i can find that's even remotely loose is the sway bar, but even then it doesn't move enough to see movement in the bushings. we're planning a trip to florida in january and i don't want to listen to the clunk over every bump and i'd hate to ruin a new snow tire. i'm stumped
  19. exactly. if you think the cormorant problem is bad, you haven't done much reading about snow geese. the current regs on them are a daily bag limit of 20 birds and a possession limit of 60 per person. there aren't enough hunters targeting these birds as they often require tons of decoys for success and it's a lot of work. it would be a good thing for other waterfowl, and snow geese themselves, if that entire flock was wiped out. cool vid
  20. if it sounds to good to be true, its a scam 99% of the time. you'll see a few on kijiji that are selling for half or less of the actual value and when you email the people they'll say they're overseas, they'll ship the atv to you, they'll hold it for you if you send them a deposit, etc. scammers are scum... when i was looking on kijiji i found that all of the similar atv's (same make/model) were within $500-1500 of each other so it was easy to tell which ones were scams or overpriced.
  21. what size tires? do you know the bolt patteen? if not, what car did they come off of? we're in the same boat as you. bought new rims/tires last winter, sold the car, and now they wont fit the new car. ill post ours here in the classifieds later today... kijiji is great for buying and selling, but it seems like ive had a lot of no shows this year after making arrangements for pickup.
  22. this january will be our first time crossing to head down to florida. any tips for some newbs going on their first real road trip? we're heading down to florida, but wont be able to tell the border officers what we're doing, where we're going, or how long we'll be as we won't know until we get there. i'm assuming it would be best to make up a Bull story about where we're going and when we'll be back just to avoid any problems? after hearing many horror stories im dreading the border crossing because i don't deal with stupid very well and don't have a problem letting people know how i feel about them. i'm thinking it might be a good idea to let the girlfriend do the talking...
  23. np...anything to save another guy some headaches 2 others have already mentioned this, but polaris and artic cat are NOT top brands as far as reliability goes. ive logged about 3000 kms on my machine in the last 1.5 years riding beside everything from cheap canadian tire atv's to the newest big bores that cost as much as a car and can tell you first hand that polaris and AC have reliability issues. for putting around the house they're fine, but if you plan on using it for even mildly aggressive riding id stay away. yamaha, kawi, suzuki, and honda are the only machines id every consider. after seeing so many popo's and AC's with significant problems, i'd honestly give up riding before lowering myself to either one of those brands as id spend more time in the garage than riding. rattletrap has the right idea about drift cutters on each end of the plow and the rubber flapper on top. when plowing powder type snow it doesnt take long for the snow to cake your winch, headlights, rad, your face, etc. the rubber flap should prevent most of this and the drift cutters will help you go straight through deep snow without veering off to one side. i think i'll add them to mine this weekend...
  24. with that budget, id be looking at probably an 02-06 450-500cc machine with low mileage. definitely make sure it has 4x4 and leave room in your budget for a winch and FRONT MOUNT plow. it's plain and simple...under mount plows suck as you lose clearance and cant keep it on all year. warn makes a good one, but you can easily convert an undermount to front mount with a grinder and welder. make sure the blade is wider than your tires when the blade is angled as far as it can go. the sharp angle the winch cable will be on is VERY hard on steel cable and results in lots of fraying. use synthetic winch cable or a short length of rope in place of your winch cable. running the cable from your winch to a pulley mounted on the plow and then attaching the hook on your front rack will save your steel cable and put less strain on your winch. use chains if you have stock style tires, but they're useless on aggressive tires as the chains just fall between the lugs. i have mud lite xtr's on my grizzly 700 and havent lost traction even while pushing huge piles. you'll spend days researching tires you may also need spring stiffeners up front if you get excessive sag when lifting up the plow. lastly, after ramming into the pile, ALWAYS back up a few inches before lifting your blade. it puts a lot of strain on your winch trying to lift the blade through the snow you just plowed into the pile. broken cables and fried winches are rather common if you search various forums. have fun
  25. well, i guess you shoulda bought a grizzly i cant tell if you guys are yanking my chain or really dont know what a water wheelie is. keep in mind this guy isnt in deep water, but you'll get the idea. you really need to know your machine and know how to ride in order to succeed...
