  1. Water temp heading to the cottage last night was 70 f, this morning coming to work had dropped to 53. They are talking now of possibility of flurries.*&@##%$%
  2. Hey Cliff. I didnt need the heads up . Im experiencing it right now. BRRRRRRRRRRRRR!. Its presently 2 celcius.
  3. Wow Cliff, you two are awesome fisherpeople! I bet those carp put up a tremendous fight. Hope you guys can catch fish at Lakair too!
  4. Love that report Blaque. Thats my neck of the woods. We likely crossed paths a couple times over the weekend.
  5. Good stuff Wayne. I like that kind of thinking.
  6. Hey FS. I think I seen you guys around the Bay on Saturday when painting my boathouse. I better put up an OFC sign on my boathouse.Went out Friday afternoon for a fishing trip with the guys in my shop (just played a little hookey for fishing). Took a little bit to locate them but when we did we nailed them good. 25 ft of water on the flats feeding for shad larvae.
  7. Being in and around the marine business all my life I fortunately get to try all kinds of stuff. Even the high priced stuff has a hard time to differentiate the walleye from surrounding structure on rocky reefs. So my best catches are when I see no fish at all. On a relatively flat sandbar you look for bumps on the bottom and if you drop a line success will more than likely be had.
  8. When fishing for walleye on Nipissing I hardly ever look for the fish on the sonar. I believe they are too close to the bottom for sonar to pick them off. Whenever I seen walleye scuba diving they were on the bottom or very close to it. If I do use sonar for locating walleye its usually when they are feeding on a sandbar.
  9. Take up pickerel fishing Lew. All you need is a couple jigs, one fishing rod and a box of worms.
  10. I have an old beat up Eagle Navigator thats at least 10 years old in my boat to mark my fav spots. Not to much need for anything else for the boat because I know the area pretty good. For hunting I use a Garmin Rino. Others in our gang use them as well so the 2 way radio is handy. Both of them work very well but as far as the reception goes I think the old navigator still receives better. I recently won a Garmin etrex Legend thats still in the box. Need to open it up and try it too.
  11. Very sorry for your loss Lew. My brother and I fish together a lot as well. Its a reminder for me to cherish the time we spend together.
  12. Thanks for the replys guys. I'll take a pic of them when I eat em up for supper tonite . I was by myself and really wasnt expecting to catch anything so the camera stayed at the cottage. Just so nice out and I worked hard on the boathouse all day and a fishing break was in order. Guess that a pic of them when I got back would have been possible. Nothing big for the contest so it didnt cross my mind to take any.
  13. Its probably oil residue from the exhaust. Could be the type of oil you are using. Some 2 stroke oils leave a residue because they dont burn off easily during combustion. As far as the jumping out of gear does it do it at lower speeds? As boatman has said it may be a worn clutch dog. Put the engine in neutral and spin the prop with your hand. Does it feel fluid or does it spin freely? If it doesnt feel like there is oil in it get it checked out. A pressure test of the lower unit only takes a few minutes at a shop.
  14. Went out yesterday evening for a quick fish. drifted for a bit and hooked into one. Just as I was going back to anchor another boat came by and anchored very close to where I wanted to be. Went upwind of him and anchored. First cast hooked into another one. About every second cast was rewarded with a pickerel. None of them in the slot.Weather was fantastic, just a slight breeze frrom the northwest.Forty minutes from the time I left the cottage until I got back with my 4 fish. Fresh pickerel for supper tonite.MMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMM yum. Sorry no pics, forgot my camera
  15. There is a corroded or broken wire that powers up the ignition system. If you can run a power lead off the battery to the hot side of the ignition coil, fuse it if you can. this will get the truck going until it can be repaired. It usually is a corroded wire near the eec-iv power relay. Fixed this problem a few times over the years. NOTE...the truck will not shut off until you disconnect the jumper wire. The reason it quits after cranking is the system powers up the coil directly off the ignition switch when cranking to deliver straight battery voltage. during normal running voltage is reduced to the coil to prevent coil burnout.
  16. Hi Blaque. If you are coming to the south bay swing by my place. Think I may have a couple of jigs if you would like some. Might even have a pot of coffee on. Good luck this trip. Mixed reports on where they are( pickerel).
  17. Geez Wayne. That all really sucks. Feel bad for you. Im sure the company's involved will make things right for you. Glad the odometer didnt turn until after you visited with me . Did the pike hit one of the jigs I gave to you?
  18. How much is a lower unit repair verses the cost of the chip ?
  19. Wow Mike Great report!!! Glad to see you did well and had some great fishing. Did you get to try out the jigs?
  20. Thanks for the responses guys. Cliff, Pike? What are they? lol. JK I seen the one you caught, you wont need me to show you how, you are doing just fine on your own. Still looking forward to taking you and Bly out on the water. My brother will be coming with us as well. He is much more avid and die hard fisherman than me. Glen, The jigs were workin' just fine, it was just the guy at the other end that wasn't doin' the job. I will still take the $4 dollar offer though
  21. Sorry but I couldn't post all my pics in 1 post..Photobucket is too slow on dial-up.
  22. Well after a long time waiting it finally happened - open season on Nipissing. Well sometimes things work out opening weekend, other times not so good. This is only a hmmmm type opener. It seems to depend a lot on water temperature and a few other factors as to to where the pickerele may be . We started out at a few of the good opening day spots that have produced well in the past. Took a couple of hours and a few different spots but we finally tallied a few on Saturday morning. All but 1 were in the slot size. Sunday was absolutely miserable weather and there are many days ahead that will be much nicer to fish. So we sat by the fire at the cottage and checked out some finer spirits. Monday we headed out again and tried a few more spots and were badly skunked. My brother had to go and pick up his daughters. He swung by another spot on his way home and phoned me an hour later to report that he found the current pickerel hangout. In 15 minutes he had his limit. We will be trying that spot out later this week. Here are a couple pics of our weekend journeys.
  23. Mark, a loving husband, was in trouble. He forgot his wedding anniversary and his wife was really ticked off at him. She told him, "Tomorrow morning, I expect to find a gift in the driveway that goes from 0 to 200 in under 6 seconds, AND IT BETTER BE THERE." The next morning, Mark got up really early before work. When his wife woke up a couple of hours later, she looked out the window, and sure enough, there was a small gift-wrapped box sitting in the middle of the driveway. Confused, the wife put on her robe, ran out to the driveway, and took the box into the house. She opened it, and found a brand new bathroom scale. Mark is not yet well enough to have visitors.
  24. Sorry for your pain Gerritt. But I'm glad for you you finally had it done..... Rest up man...I'll find us a good fishin' hole for June.
