  3. hmm.. a bunch of rods.. shimano crucial casting and spinning quantum tour casting fenwick canadian methods spinning pete maina okuma pro classic all seemed to do the job .. bought a curado 101d, great reel bassing/piking bought chronarch 51mg, even better reel because of the all magnesium body.. bassing/piking stradic mg2500 for drop shots or jigging stradic 1000 for light gear quantum engery pti 10 for lighter gear abu ambass 5600 c3 or something like that for musky (i didn't like it too much, probably because this one was used) okuma magda pro 30dx (x2) for walleye and salmon trolling boat - lowe 14 jumbo deep with 20hp merc tiller - crestliner viking 165 dlx i think is the model. with 60hp merc side console -rod holders, fixing, maintaining, installing stuff, cover, electronics lowrance lcx 25c minn kota maxxum trolling motor batteries minn kota powerdrive w/ US & co-pilot misc. mustang classic float suit nautillus nfs 2000 float suit alot of tackle.. cranks, spinner, spinnerbaits, plastics I don't think any of them was a a waste of money.. just money well spent.. nothing was in perticular to me was bad.. except i wished i got a cable steer instead of the powerdrive... MAN I SPENT ALOT THIS YEAR!!!!
  4. i know there is whitefish during the hardwater season that are easy to get... not too sure right now.. i haven't been there in a while.. how about the smallies right now? how they are doing around the keswick area? i could try and head out there.. .. since my entry was a largie...
  5. I'm 1 species off for the avid angler award on the ofah awards thing... i guess crappie and rockbass count as one... but i already got the walleye, pike and bass down... i guess i need to hook into a musky, whitefish or salmon before its too late... anyone got some tips before the year end and before i gotta store away my boat to where i can hook into some? i'm thinking of BOQ again.. since they got some giant eyes at the moment and i heard there is a mix of everything.. i guess thats my best chance is there... woot kevin
  6. sorry,, also got this to add... this is a wicked nice one but its huge.. so you might not need that for your boat..but bigger is better and it doesnt hurt... http://www.cabelas.com/cabelas/en/template...&hasJS=true and here is a deal on one... 6inch screen.. its a lowrance.. its colour.. has dual transducer.. http://www.cabelas.com/cabelas/en/template...&hasJS=true i think the latter one would be a better investment than that eagle one there cliff.... for $150 more at 499, you get so much more.. heck.. almost same as mine but mine has a 7inch screen..
  7. oh and i have the impression that lowrance is the best... go big or go home cant have the unit let you down while you're on the water!
  8. im not sure if its low, but it has 1,500 watts peak to peak... you shouldve grabbed the one i got from cabelas! $820 or so CAD shipped, 7inch colour screen, 8000 watts peak to peak, dual 50/200 transducer and got temp and speed... for the extra $350 i say its totally worth it.... but on that unit.. does it have temp and speed? i think those would be nice to have too... 5 inch screen is more than sufficient but with it being greyscale, you cant see all those pretty colours but if you need the navionics gold xl9 chip.. a store in NS has it for sale at $220 CAD shipped or here in toronto at west marine has it for 199.99 + tax = $228, so im guessing the store would be a better deal, since its shipped and it took me 3 days to get it!!! (ordered on tuesday and got it on thursday!) also.. a tip.. when adding the transducer.. ask shawn about mounting it onto a piece of plastic so it wont kill your transom when you do decide to change transducer later on.... good luck on finding a new graph cliff..
  9. oh wow.. i was sure hoping that on the sunday morning you were to get out and get something... but on the bright side.. you got that honking big yo-suri now.. !! it was nice meeting you glen, you're one hell of a guy./ kevin
  10. Hey Mike! Sorry didn't get to talk to you much or even at all! You had one hell of a entrance, come driving up to the bonfire and everyone just staring at the car and this massive tall guy comes walking out saying, "I'm Bitsmith", the group's response , and then you say, "the beer guy!" .. thats when everyone was ... haha.. good times! kevin
  11. LOL... Sure was weird seeing dog with a shirt on.. but how could you not recognize his big smile? nice meeting both of you, Dan and Glen! cheers. kevin
  12. Happy b-day to the both of you!
  13. Morning! Geez, I can't even believe I'm up at this time.. must be because of waking up three days in a row at the G2G at this time trying to get a early head start...
  14. i think my eye came in a tad bigger then slow pokes.. mine being 29inch and 9lb11ounce.. just shy of 10 lbs.. and thank you mike and gerrit for the great organization of the bunk thing and pot luck! and of course everyone that pitched in! and it was sure smart of you to bring those ski googles .. i don't think my wind sheild is not high enough, so maybe i should get me a pair of those too..lol cheers kevin
  15. Alright. Lets see how to begin? Long weekend! For me this trip was going to just begin as a one day thing, coming in on Saturday but then as you may all know, fishindevil's original partner had something that came up so then he asked me to come along with him for the whole weekend a Merland's. After thinking for a few hours, I finally decided, and of course, DUH, the answer was yes. Since I had an assignment due on Friday at 5pm, I had to finish it and hand it in before I left for fishindevil's place at 4:30. So I pulled an all niter, finally finished it and handed that in at 4:00am and go flying down to his place to get on our way. so.. I was a tad late to his place.... he was all ready for me and I shoved my one duffel bag of crap and my rods into his car and off we went! we then decided to stop over at Carra outdoor's to say hi to Sam but it was 6:30 when we got there, thinking it'll open up at 7am, but in actuality, it opened up at 8am. DANG! oh well, off we head to Merland's. While heading over, we can tell it was going to be pretty rough.. well... what do you think? one brave soul heading out,.. hell.. not me... So we went over to the ferry to check it out over there.. well it was hell... alot worse.. so we dropped off the boat and went back to Carra's and by that time, he had just opened up. Was real nice to meet Sam. I'll be sure to drop on by again! Shortly after, we headed back to Merland's, with not much left to do but to organize everything.. and here was our luxury 5 star room... (above: Vatordude) With the intense winds, we didn't have much to do, so a bunch of us hung around our porch, talked about anything.... (Above L to R: fishindevil, douG, slowpoke, bassmastermike, Vatordude) time went by fairly quickly and it was already night! with GCD and douG taking care of the fire.. note:that's lexxington, not douG (Greencoachdog & Lexxington) (Ted & the Gadget & Greencoachdog) I didn't stay out too long, was cold and i didn't get much sleep, so i hit the sack early that night... after having some of that DELICIOUS food that GCD whipped up, much appreciated, thank you!! (sorry no pics of that)..... next day(sat) the plan was to wake up at 4:45 to head on out to the water, welll....... you know.. the alarm goes off, you hit snooze and it goes off again, and you're like, dag nammit.... finally up and ready, went to the ramp at the habour. first thing we see when we got out there.. a big f150 with 4 wheel drive spinning his wheels like made trying to get up the iced up ramp... OH GREAT!.. if he had trouble going up that, we were gonna have a tonne of trouble with our car... however a nice man(lonely fisherman i thin( came along, still waiting for his clients and gave us some salt to us on the ramp.. and after spending that extra 40 mins at the ramp.. we were off!~!! DERBY DAY! and here was my entry for the tourney.... coming in at 29 inches... at around after the first 10 mins of putting our boards out... about an hour or two after, my board looked a bit funny, so hell.. lets bring it in and check if there is a tiny fish on or some weeds, well sure enough.. here it is... this one wasn't so lucky, it came home with me mm mm pickeral... today(sat) we were marking quite a bit of bait and larger fish, but couldn't entice them to bite anymore.. sadly for fishindevil.. after 10 years or something, finally got skunked on the BOQ... here was a quick pic of sat night on the porch with Vatordude just coming in, Slowpoke and bassmastermike having a drink, carole's and douG's back, and mr cranksbait checking out vatordude we had one hell of a feast that night... thanks to mikethepike & others for organizing the pot luck, sorry no pics of that or the food.. not too long after the dinner, some of the people went off to fish, some to the fire and some, like me, hit the sack.... or maybe i was the only one? i was gone out cold by 11:30pm... been a long cold day! now today is sunday... wake up, went to timmies for a quick coffee, wasn't so quick.. the manager decided to change the tills while 10 fishermen were standing in line to get their morning fixing!! got some gas and off we were for the final day of the trip....winds coming from the north east, so we went over to the ferry for nice calm launch.. well after some salting of the ramp again by another gentlemen.. the local sunoco didn't carry salt.. i couldn't believe it... well here are a couple shots of the 7am ferry ride sunrise... (my new desktop background ) .. and here we go again.. today we ran from the ferry up to keith's shoal, not marking too much fish.. did two passes, naddda! flew over to the lighthouse.. NADDA! so at 2pm ish we called it a day... I had hell of a time... met alot of great people.. had some great food.. got out onto the water.. even hooked into some fish.. so i can't complain too much... gotta do something like this again soon. good stuff! and gotta thank fishindevil for teaching me on how to hook into some of those BOQ walleyes.. kevin
  16. hmm.. i don't think thats the case, Lew. i see the intake perfectly clear.. i did the same as the previous owner, except his hose had alot more pressure than mine.. so that couldve been a reason, but i'm thinking you don't need so much pressure.. because thats why its called a PUMP...
  17. Congrats Chuck on that 31 inch pickeral! keep up the good work!
  18. oh well.. i'll do the blockage thing and bring it down to the water(lakeshore).. if it still is a no go, then i'll change the impeller now.. but if its good, i'll change the impeller in the spring, so that it wont just be out in the cold for the whole winter...
  19. i recall someone around the merland bonfire talking about a solopaddler.... :whistling:
  20. I'll see how the boat goes and my schedule... I'll probably just take the boat in to get the impeller changed, even if its not broken because I don't have a clue when the last time it was changed, been atleast 3 years so I might aswell change it now.
  21. For sure bro, Ice fishing sounds great.. When did you guys leave this morning? I saw Cliff and Carole's CRV still parked so I assumed that you were still out. How did your day go? kevin (oh yeah. and of course nice meeting Sam there over at Carra Outdoors) (I was the guy that came in with Shawn in the morning and was bugging ya about the Mann's )
