this motor is a tad too big for me to stick a big garbage can under.. so I was only using the ear muffs.. and then my 5hp honda beside is too small for the ear muffs so then i had to use the garbage can for that!..

LOL! i put on the bunny ears... and i'm in Toronto and it has dropped below zero yet.. so it can't be frozen... yes, Wayne, i was thinking perhaps it hasn't warmed up yet.. but 20 seconds not long enough to warm up? what should the threshold be then? HOw long should i let it go before i cause real damage because the impeller was actually broken and not because of the thremostat not being warmed up yet...?

Soo.. just bought the boat like 3 weeks ago or so.. everything on it is pretty much set.. except adding the extras.. and except checking over the motor again.. well when i bought it, the water was pumping out fine, during the brief 10 seconds that the owner showed me it running.. now when i'm trying to run it right now, its not going! i run it for 20 seconds and no water is pumping out.. i tried to stick a thin mire up it, and it goes up about 10 cm then can't go up anymore.. so either the pee hole is clogged or i need to change the impeller.. or i didn't let it run long enough? any ideas out there? oh and its a 1989 merc 2 stroke 60hp. thanks!

Looking to get a big girl at BOQ this coming weekend. So... I want to make a trophy of one if it goes 12lb +, how abouts do I do it? I don't plan on keeping the fish. What do I need to take down? Length? Girth? Weight? Anything else? What kinds of pictures and from what angles etc...? ALSO... Any recommendations from around the Toronto area to get this done? I'm guessing this will run me $300-500? Thanks for any help...

Bassfighter, Well before Shawn taught me this, I planned on jigging and and throwing out cranks. But after learning this, I think its a very effective way to spread out your lures and further away from the boat. That way the fish are not so easily spooked by the boat. Also, this way to less tiring than casting all day but some essentials for using planer boards would be the boards themselves, linecounter with atleast 350 yards of line, gps/sonar are a GREAT help, and of course the correct baits to get down there to the fish. I'm sure there is more but I only know the basics. Can't wait to learn more kevin

007, We didn't noticed too much baitfish, the walleyes were both suspended and hugging the bottom... However we can see on the sonar that the fish were easily spooked because of the streaks on the screen heading down...

no worries, all C&R, not even out of the water for more than 5 seconds for the pics

lol..most things are checked out on it, just gotta run the motor for a bit to make sure everything is a ok..!

Great day for me out there today. Shawn took the time and effort today to "show me the ropes" Previously I didn't know too much about fishing this way, I usually fished water under 20ft for bass and pike. Now I'm semi-ready for the BOQ this coming week! The day started for me at 3:30am, got up and got ready to be at Shawn's(fishindevil) place in Oshawa for 4:30am. Got there at 4:35 and we're off to get some gas and some timmies. boy i never had to go to the men's room so many times before.... I don't think I'll be drinking too many coffees! Finally got onto the water at around 8am after a hold up at the ramp. We marked a bunch of fish. Got to out to the spot and started setting up the planer board. This is where I was totally lost, planer boards were a whole new world to me and Shawn just taught it all to me today, thanks Shawn! Once we got the boards out, I asked Shawn, "so.. when do we know there is a fish on?", he explains, "well if goes straight back or the board starts moving side to side etc etc".. well i asked that because I saw the board moving funny, so not even 5 mins in, FISH ON! after a short tussle, we got the first eye in, the biggest of the day at 12lbs.. Not even 10 mins later, second fish on, Shawn takes the rod and brings it very professionally, and with a smile.. sorry no pic of the fish, shawn will post another report I'm sure, but he's a bit sore and tired, probably will be up tomorrow? *note, he has more pics I believe this one was 10lbs About an hour or so later, I see the board waving side to side and I say, "Uh oh", Shawn turns around and stares at me, "what?!?!" as if we smacked into something, but it was only a fish, I jumped on the rod and started reeling that fish in, shortly after, our third fish was boated, a nice 10lber About another or so goes by, and while I was reeling in the line to check the lures for weeds or something, and what do you know! FISH ON!.. this was another smaller one at 8 lbs.. So no fish for about two hours and now its about 2 hours and Shawn's girlfriend isn't feeling too well, we are about to call it a day. We begin trolling back to the ramp While we we turning, the planer board looked funny to me, it was staying too close to the middle, so I thought it was maybe a fish, I then began reeling in the outside board and Shawn takes over the one that looks funny, and what do you know, god knows how long we were dragging that fish across the bay, another fish!.. this one turned out to be the smallest of the day I think, at around 6-7 lbs? I'm not 100% sure on the lbs, but Shawn would remember better. And here we are heading back to the ramp, with Shawn's sign of approval. The set up today were planer boards and Shawn took out a dipsy diver too, but that didn't get a bite at all. But not bad, 5 for 5! First time going for some real eyes, and this will be considered my PB until this weekend It was great fishing with Shawn today, very nice and knowledgeable guy. We'll for sure hook up again Shawn. Soooooo.. I ordered the Lowrance 25c on the 5th. Then Terry and I msged back and forth and today he told he finally ordered it too, but he got it at 699.99 instead of my price at 849.88! So I quickly go give them a call to see if they can credit me back.. first guy I talked to was about to credit my credit card back but then I asked about the taxes too, he said he wasn't sure and transferred me off. The next lady said that their policy will only allow gift cards for the difference.. blah blah blah.. and was pretty sure I cant get the tax money back since it was our government that charged me that.. so in the end, I will be getting a $149.89 gift cert. from Cabelas. Oh well. Atleast that means i spent only $850 USD on it shipped.. yay! thanks Terry! So.. now what do i want to buy for $150 at cabelas... hmmmmmmm...

nice fish.. i know exactly where you fished! i've seen some carp there, but never caught any But i'm caught some panfish and some bass out of there, apparently alot of pike too. good stuff! kevin

dammit gerrit, don't remind me! i still need to do a crap load of things! tomorrow i should be doing.... change tires change the motorguide 37lb to my powerdrive 55lb grease bearings grease motor check out the stern light and now i just found out my left light doesn't turn on at night!!! however it is fine for turning and braking, so i assume it is a grounding problem again.... either tomorrow or friday i will transfer the boat license to me.. sometime this weekend i will put it in the water to check the pumps and any leaks.. sometime this weekend i will be picking up a kicker motor and goto bass pro to pick up a new transom saver, rod holder, gearcase lube pump, more gear case lube, more tackle for BOQ, check out some toys sometime next week i will get the lowrance 25c in the mail and the navionics xl9, so i will need to install it and learn how to use it.. oh yeah and get batteries! ahhhhhhh oh yeah.. ram mount..
