Hey gang, Given the hot summer months I couldn't do much river fishing for trout but now with the recent drops in temperatures, I have been hitting some rivers and creeks. So far I have hit the Credit, Humber and Duffins Creek water sheds. Obviously all towards the headwaters for some cold water fishing. The fishing has been on and off but that's all part of the game. Anyhow, long story short, my research told me that Duffins is probably one of better water systems in the GTA area for some cold water trout fishing. I tried a couple of spots at Duffins (Greenwood conservation being one of them) and was wondering if those of you who are familiar can point me in "some" direction. Another thing I also struggle with is finding public access points into these waters. I am always conscious of not trespassing as I have heard some pretty bad stories from fellow anglers I have come across. You can PM me if you like. Thanks in advance. Miro

just wow ... but it almost seems as if they did it on purpose. If the photographer had enough time to take all those pics from various elevations (depths rather) am sure there was enough time to release the (Tarpon) fish so he could escape or fend for himself.

lol - you're really into this stuff.

nice story - small world.

Excellent walleye fishing there - and I can't believe that you can actually see the fish going after your bait on the screen. That really possible?

excellent pics and fish .... tubing is awesome.

Nice vid report - loved them trouts. Now you got me pumped for the fall trout.

Good report there bud, with some beautiful pics, and yes that last pic was spectacular .... looks like you had a ton of fun. Good on ya'

Down by the river next to my house, I have seen Newfies catch'em on pieces of sponge ... apparently they aren't very picky. Just gotta piss'em off sometimes.

Lol at Shasta. I have hit Rock lake for bass and have caught them. Look for shoals and bays near the shoreline. The best time to catch bass would be in the evening. For your son, I'd recommend just a bobber and a hook with a piece of worm on it. Just wait for the bobber to bounce around and yank! Beautiful lake for swimming. Have fun. I'll soon be there myself.

Nice report and beautiful fish. Will definitely keep this in mind.

That's a nice one there skdds. And thanks to you all for the encouraging comments. And I totally agree with "experience being the best teacher". After every trip I say I wish I had tried this or that, and then I do; and then learn something out of it. My techniques are changing and adapting. I ain't done with fishing yet but I must admit, I have been spoiled by those brookies in Algonquin back in Spring and nothing comes even close to that experience. Cheers

Sweet captures - i'll be heading out there come January.

Being a relatively new angler, I suppose I still have lots to learn - but what amazes me is how some anglers hit the max limit in an hour or two and I manage 2 fish in 7 hours. Is it the technique, the time of day, the water, the temp, the cloud patterns, the lures, the bait ...etc. What really does it? On my previous two outings I hit Rice lake after folks here recommended it. I did manage one or two eyes on each trip but that's it. Then this past weekend, thought I hit Balsam lake as I can spend the night there too in the park. And so I did. Plus a buddy of mine at work told me that if you start fishing at 3 or 4 in the morning, you'll catch fish after fish. Just troll along that big island. And so I did. And here is a little clip of my outing. I'll admit you will see more of me and the boat than you will of the fish. I caught one walleye (a keeper at 14 inches) and a blue gill. I must say Walleye kicks Blue Gill's butt. I cooked them both the same way and the Walleye tasted much better. BUT doesn't even come close to the heavenly taste and experience of catching and enjoying a nice AP brookie. <iframe width="640" height="360" src="http://www.youtube.com/embed/4txDfbpfmm8" frameborder="0" allowfullscreen></iframe>

monster fish ... thx for sharing

I was fishing Balsam Lake over the long weekend (report to follow w/a video) and on my way back a few buddies of mine told me to check out Kirkfiield lake, which was an accidental man-made lake with clean turquoise waters and monster bass. On my way there I stumbled upon this impressive lift lock, and what's even more amazing is that it was built over a 100 years ago. <iframe width="640" height="360" src="http://www.youtube.com/embed/Q_uybnxXwYQ" frameborder="0" allowfullscreen></iframe>

Wow - and I was waiting for September to try my luck at these beauties again. Didn't think they could be caught this time of the year, especially with the high temperatures we've been experiencing. Thx for sharing your technique with us. I might employ it very soon. I do miss them. PS: love your tag line -
cool indeed and yes i too always try them out in the backyard prior to their first usage ... have a good trip Mr. Borger

Exactly what I was thinking. The article says "long believed to be extinct...." and they shoot the first one they see in over a century.

Fun little movie trailer on our cottage week in Haliburton
mirogak replied to mirogak's topic in General Discussion
Thanks guys. I was cottaging on Benoir lake at the southern tip of my fav Algonquin Park. I took some day trips into the park and checked out High Falls (that was freakin' beautiful), I will post a video on that place. The weather was just awesome all 5 days I was up there. Unfortunately for me, I decided not to focus too much on fishing and spend more time with the girls and my parents. Took'em hiking and boating and stuff like that. So yeah, I didn't get to fish much besides dock fishing with the girls for perch and rock basses. Still fun though. Miro
