Dusey Lake Outpost ~ Journey To A Brook Trout Zoo
mirogak replied to solopaddler's topic in General Discussion
Like always, Mike, a great read, wonderful fishing, and some beautiful pics there, some of them definitely worth framing. You're a lucky guy to have seen and fished places like that. Maybe one day for the rest of us. Keep enjoying my friend. Miro -
Took tomorrow off - Walleye Fishing - which lake you recommend?

Thought I close this thread. Rice lake was pretty good fishing, especially after 8pm. I had always heard about the fishing getting turned on at the flick of a switch. And that's precisely what happened on Rice Lake especially around the islands. They came to the surface and were splashing left and and right. I never knew walleyes fought so hard. In the summer time, they seem lazy and don't wanna fight. But this day, there were fighting hard. Loads of fun. Here is a small clip. http://youtu.be/-Bo5-vQMJWw?hd=1 -
I am so pumped for next week. Thanks for all the tips amigos. And what timing ... in sync with season opener for Bass. Eeeeehaaaaa!!!

Good points there bud. I have been fishing for two or three years now and if I hadn't come across this site, there would have been no way in hell to educate myself as much as I did in just the last few months. It was only a few weeks ago where I learned what OOS stood for. We do need to chill out a bit ... not everyone is bad at heart. Miro

If you go to the town of Haliburton village, there is a tackle shop on the north west corner of Highland Street and Maple Ave, they sell one-pager topo maps for all the lakes in the area. I have had good success for bass and walleye both in Kashaga and Soyers trolling the shores at the dusk. Bass come to life around 8pm and they will hit anything top surface. Loads of fun. Coincidentally I am taking next week off too, renting a cottage just north east of this area. Have fun, Miro

You know what Sinker, I've researched some really good small trout lakes nearby (especially to the east), so you think they are worth my time there?

They are tough enough in the spring and fall, summer is going to be way harder. The 3 way jig might be your only option.

Good pointers .. thanks gents. Looks like the narrows between Benoir and Elephant are the place so far. I remember when I was on this lake a few years back, I had some good pike action near where the Benoir is fed from the park. But pike isn't really what I am after. York River, I shall check out for sure. I heard the High Falls is something to checkout as well.

Hey gang, Long time no chat - hope you're all enjoying the unseasonably warm start to our official summer. I am renting a cottage on Benoir Lake which is on the southernmost tip of Algonquin Park, it goes without saying that I'll be taking day trips into the park but I will also be taking my boat to fish the lake system there. Wondering if you guys have had any experiences with Benoir, Elephant or the Baptiste lake system. I am aiming for Walleye and bass fishing. Also, anybody familiar with that part of the park at all? You can PM if you like. Thanks, Miro

If it was me, I would go to Balsam provincial park, launch the boat there, and fish my way into Mitchell from Balsam. Food for thought.

Took tomorrow off - Walleye Fishing - which lake you recommend?

It was a bummer. I was all set to go and thought I'd give the engine a start just to be sure and not give myself a surprise once I hit water. Lesson learned from a previous time. It started beautifully, let it run for 2 minutes BUT then she won't turn off. I even pulled the key out, she won't turn off. I yanked the wires from the batteries but she won't turn off. I finally had to cut off the gas supply and even then the engine took a good 3 minutes before dying out. No idea what the hell happened to her. Tried again but same thing Am thinking its the ignition switch or some wiring has gone loose. So I mowed the lawn, watered the plants, cleaned the shed, thinking I'd save the day by hitting a creek nearby for some evening dry fly action but only to have the freaking monsoon pour down on me. So in the end I gave up, cooked some dinner and just finished watching the movie "the help" Lol There is my Friday report. Miro -
