  1. So this is a random boating advice thread? Scugog does not need a nautical map. There is maybe one rock in the hole lake and it is not on a nautical map. A basic map is good enough for it and depth finder is a good idea. Pigeon Lake and taking the Otanabee into Rice lake (and some other kawarthas).....are you guys trying to make the guy afraid of going out a 2nd time? Anyways I think the OP is either going to frenchmans bay or Scugog.
  2. Hazards? that is why most people recommended Scugog. If he does damage the he may as well sell the boat and buy a peddle boat.
  3. make that a v8 bow mount....no use wasting time pulling a silly electric motor up/down. oh...and add one cast per 20ft area.....extra casts are a waste and one cast of dynamite usually gets everything.
  4. diapers v-8 moving 12 foot of tin dynamite instead of lures
  5. if you give a man a fish...... http://www.remotecentral.com/hdtv/index.html also the wikipedia entries have the listing for virtual and real channel numbers. For the people that are uninformed about these things: The virtual numbers are the ones that your TV refers to....so you say I want channel 57 and press 57 to get it like you always used to when you wanted city-tv. Wait that is not exactly true because in order to find city-tv for the first time you have to tell you tv the real channel number. but only tell it the real channel number the first time because after that if you give it a real number it will think it is a virtual number and give you that virtual station (at least on my TV).....make sense? no? Don't worry about it is a totally retarded concept that does not make sense or matter unless you want to use an antennae. check out AVS forums for technical questions
  6. if it is on a rotor point it about 180-210 degrees (south) and do a rescan of the channels. Some converters (like mine) are crappy and you have to do a few tricks to get it to tune the station or try an auto scan. You should get PBS http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/WNED-TV Virtual = 17 real = 43. If not then you could have a bad cable coming from the antenna or you are being blocked. Bad cable can be a bit of a pain to diagnose. I point mine south most of the time...I still get CBC and all the major american networks.
  7. you are missing 2-1, 2-2, 2-3 = americano.....all sports, nbc, all retro 4 americano 11 17 (3 of them) PBS city-tv omni some christian deal some silly stations 1/2 of which I dont know what the heck they are +"2 all music stations 1 country 1 some new stuff" All the majors are accessible from Oshawa so scugog should get them: ABC, NBC, CBS, Fox, CBC, Global, City-TV, CFTO, PBS dont' stop until you have the most......he that dies with the most stations wins.
  8. I am doing a lot better. At least 2 things: point it towards Buffalo and Rochester. The have signals. Google "AVS forums"
  9. IF you use a mono backing and fish for anything that just might possibly spool you could make sure it is not the mono backing that is going to break because if it is the thing to go then you just left a $#@@@ long length of line in the water: A) for someone to catch their prop on? for the first to drag around until it tangles something else and kills the fish? C) to spend money on replacing it? D) to ruin the rest of the day because you are down one rod? E) all of the above?
  10. You must of said some bad things to some people for some of these replies. Launch at a time when the launches will be quiet. That way you can take your time. Launching for the first time at Port Perry on a Saturday afternoon will not be pleasant. -pickering and whitby are good places to launch your boat if you just want to go out and come back in 10 minutes and not fish. again...not so great on the weekend and it will cost you for parking ($10?)Whitby parking is good and pickering not so good. -Port Perry has a very easy launch and good parking $5. There are 2 WIDE ramps and a long dock. Go during a weekday or early on the weekend (sun up and get back before 10am or stay out until 6pm). The lake is almost completely free of hazards and there are fish. I would put this as the #1 pick. -Bewdley is good and easy too but you will have to walk almost a kilometer to park you car IDK what jack****s came up with that layout.
  11. hahaha 40HP....I guess they have just enough people on the lake that think 40HP is enough for them because that is what they own? If they were brining this up as a matter of pricipal they would go with the more standard low or 0 HP restrictions OR went with a dB type restriction like 25HP for 2 strokes and 40HP for 4-strokes. How about baning water skiing....wait some people like doing that (I find them a pain) I may be jumping the gun a little but my little voice tells me that they are selfish jerks.
  12. Are you sure you are not supposed to pay some guy at a booth for each fish you caught? For the benefit of those that do not get to do such experiments.....what bait/presentation failed to impress the fish or caught more bass than walleye.
  13. Like manitoubass It takes some time for my full night vision to kick in. But walleye are not people and fish vision is not the same as people vision so I can't draw conclusions based on my own eyesight experience. Also, maybe the walleye need time to settle down before they start feeling more aggressive...again based on my experience. I like to relax, settle down, mingle, check things out......then food.
  14. A lot of people are mentioning the hours of the day for feeding times. In mid July the sun is up until 10pm or so....but now it is going down around 8:30. Does this time change during the year? PS: to the person that asked about walleye taking time to adjust to the dark...all I can say is that I have heard it too, it makes sense and catching fish after sunset is usually tough.
  15. I fished it years ago. Brown trout, rainbow trout, small mouth bass (if they dont swim out to lake) Salmon, carp. I even caught a pike and saw an eel there. A record brown was caught out there many years ago. I have been as far north as Steeles on it (carp carp and more big carp) I fished down from the Toronto Zoo and would walk from there to hwy2 and always wanted to fish up in the markham area but I think that it may not be so good up there. I would not eat anything from it.
  16. I am going to guess that is a pain in the butt to steer, takes up room on the boat or that if he makes one he can make 2 that can be mounted at each side of the transom for superior steering control. He if you have an old motor doing nothing why not try it out.....it won't be that easy if you don't know about electronics and even if you do it won't be easy to seal and mount it right.
  17. It all depends on how Gagnon's reacts. For sometime now Gagnon's has been more aggressive on pricing. Some of their deals were awesome and they will be able to offer a better customer experience if they want. People will go out of their way to go to Sail and say 'may as well go to Gagnon's to check it out'. That will be traffic that Gagnon's never got before and if they make a good impression on that one and only chance then that is good for them. Sail is not proven in these parts.....success elsewhere does not mean success here.
  18. Fish often react out of instinct if it is a moving object. Different fish act differently. You could use telephone cable to pull a carrot through the water and a pike would still hit it. Put a 3 foot floro leader on. My other thoughts on floro -> floro as a mainline sucks and is pricey and who says fish can't see it anyways?
  19. Market yourself as someone that has some of Millwright skills (?) and for the future consider contacting the college to see what they can do for you so you get the millwright certificate (there will be common ground). Temporary services are good for you.....temporarily. They will try to take advantage of you but never mind that and get your stress level down by getting on top of this. Good luck.
  20. I will check with my grandma. I think she sells them too.
  21. Good work. I hate bullies (yes, hate) It is unlawful to interfere with people fishing....if it was pursued I don't think that it would have went over well. Not that it did. I don't think judges like having shenanigans going on. I think I am going to drive to Coburg because I feel goooood.
  22. That is a strange setup for Muskie. I would not say it is unethical but is a bit irresponsible or maybe jerky like: -a couple of hundred yards of stripped braid in lake = bad -snapped in half rod because you were using braid on a light rod = bad -big musky that takes forever to cpr (if it can be) = bad -other Musky guys pointing and whispering about your setup = bad (who cares, they are musky guys) -busted rod because the med will not throw or troll the large baits without eventually breaking = bad -everyone waiting forever for you to bring in the big fish = bad I think SoloPaddler is dead on. There are a lot of Muskie nuts who say nothing less than 100 lb braid and a telephone pole guy for a leader blah blah blah..... Get your lure weight/type in line with the rod capabilities. If the rally has problem with that they should have set out rules on equipment like some tournaments do for the boats used.
  23. It is $200 from the stowmaster website....yes $230 seems too high....but then again canadians are used to getting gouged.
  24. That really sucks. I know most loans can be called at any time (my mortgage I think too) but I never heard of that happening.
  25. I would not say that that is a good guide....it used to be a good guide. Last time I used it it kept recommending I buy the SS version with no option to get an aluminum. Your engine manufacturer likely has a chart available that states what propellers will give you what speed at a given weight range. diameter also plays a part. Yes, lower pitch = more torque at the low end and lower speed at the top. Getting a lower pitch to slow your troll is not worth the trade off in top end IMO when compared to other ways such as throwing out trolling bags or using a trolling plate. But if one does not care about how fast they are going then sure, why not change it for better low end trolling speed. wbg Hey if you buy a lot of props from the sandy cove auction I might be interested in one....
