  1. Nice looking rod. I'm also jealeous of the lemon tree in your backyard!
  2. I know there is another post about the fishing show, but I'll start another thread for just the Walleye Masters Seminar - James Lidner (Angling Edge), Gord Pyzer (In-Fisherman etc.), Big Jim McCaughlin - all I think are in some form of Hall of Fame. I learned a lot at the Seminar. It was much better than any tank seminar - in fact the best seminar I've ever been too. There was a brief introduction, but most of the seminar was based specifically around questions from the audience. We got to ask specific questions and get responses from three Walleye Masters. Just writing that, I almost can't believe I got to do it. It was almost like watching a fishing show, but being able to ask them anything you would like to know. Afterward, they made themselves available for 1:1 discussion. The show was worth the entrance fee just for this seminar alone. I was on the fence between going to the Walleye vs. Bass. Chose Walleye to get a chance to speak with Gord and I'm glad I did. I would be interested to hear how the Bass Seminar went.
  3. Thanks for the feedback. That is why I am considering the Dobyns. The review compared similar rods including Loomis and stated that it was the most balanced. Just don't know where I can feel one in my hand with a reel attached before buying. Thanks, I'm on the fence between buying a 6'3" MH and a 6'8" M or ML vs. just one 6'6" I was also considering the cumulus and cumara, but basspro doesn't carry them. Do you know where I can find them? I also agree with this, but I would have to get two rods MH for jerkbaits and a M or ML for lighter applications. Trying to get away with just one rod. Maybe I will have come down in price range and get two rods. I do have a Rapala Shift Baitcast rod and like it. Haven't seen the Concept Ti in the store. Do you know who carry's them? What do you use the 783 rod for? I think it may be a little too heavy for Walleye jigging. Do you know who in the GTA carries the cumara?
  4. Hi All, I'm considering a Loomis 6'6 SJR782 IMX (new, waiting for the rod trade in at BPS) or the Bronzeback SMR 752S-SP 6'3" (BPS does not have this in stock). Would be using the rod for Walleye (jerkbaits, jigs) and Bass (jerkbaits, skipping, shakey-head, dropshotting). I'm a short guy and want a shorter rod (vs. 7' and above). I like the bronzeback foregrip/handle better than the IMX, but am not convinced in the blank quality/sensitity vs the IMX and would be able to get the IMX at the rod trade in. I'm also considering a Dobyns based on reviews, but they are very hard to find in a brick and mortar store and I haven't felt one in my hand, which is mandatory for me before I buy. Does anyone have any suggestions/comments of a similar rod to the Loomis IMX? (I am not a St. Croix guy).
  5. I search CT online, but did not see any augers on sale. Their flyer states ice fishing stuff is on sale but doesn't mention specifics.
  6. Are replacement blades easy to find for the NILS?
  7. I'm looking for a small piece (maybe 6"x8") of vinyl wrap for my boat. It's for the top of my gunnel on the bow. Sometimes when I lift my trolling motor the propeller hits the boat. I was thinking of putting a small piece of vinyl at that spot to prevent against nicks to the paint. I live near Bass Pro Shops and my boat is near Lindsay, anyone know where I could get a piece of vinyl wrap. Also, anyone use a keel guard and/or skeg guard? I'd like to hear about your experiences with it. I want to protect those areas as well as they are suseptible to bottom scrapes. (I fish shallow alot).
  8. On a side note/question: I'm going to convert to Mod.Wallis cast from side cast to eliminate line twist (as opposed to adding another swivel above the float). For those with experience with both, which one casts farther?
  9. Really nice! What do you think it weighs?
  10. Agree pod cast and recorded for later viewing would be great!
  11. Allergies ... must be something in the air

  12. Wouldn't the chlorine kill the bacteria (which is needed) in the septic system?
  13. Interesting. I will look into this as well as above ground options. Don't think I want to go the in ground route. Also, I'm on septic. Where do people on septic drain the water to?
  14. Would you mind sharing your experience with the pool. How much effort is it to maintain (I have to consider I am only up there on weekends and vacations). Ongoing costs?
  15. Yes, I thought the same thing. I'll have to look into maintaining a pool (work effort and ongoing cost). Anyone have any experience with pool maintenance they would like to share?
  16. Without getting into the detailed calculations, I estimated that it would cost about $15,000-$20,000 to sell, move, buy. (commission, lawyer, land tranfer tax, moving expenses etc) Wow!
  17. Thanks for the suggestion about calculating moving costs. I will look into it.
  18. I haven't considered a cottage on an island. My first thoughts are difficult to commute back and forth on and off.
  19. I love Sturgeon lake and the area, and we have great neighbours. I also should have mentioned we also get a lot of 'prop chop'. Weeds that are chopped up by boat propellers and float on the surface. They accumlate on our shore out about 10 feet floating on the surface. Its a futile battle with these weeds.
  20. Hi All, currently we are fortunate enough to own a waterfront cottage on Sturgeon Lake on the south end. The fishing is excellent (I fish for Walleye, LMB, SMB and panfish) and I am a happy camper when at the cottage. However, the wife and kids would like to swim in weedless water. I wouldn't mind a swim in our plus 30 days of summer either. Our cottage has pretty thick weeds from about 6 feet from shore onward. Good for fishing. Our option for swimming is to drive up to the Bobcaygeon beach. Ideally, we would like to swim off our dock. I am only familiar with the Kawarthas. I am looking for recommendations for other parts of Ontario (lakes or regions) that have good fishing and good swimming opportunities. We live on Highway 400 near Bass Pro, so going north would be easy (besides the traffic). Ideally within a 2 hour drive. Currently takes us 1 3/4 hours to get to Sturgeon Lake, Lindsay.
  21. I have the exact same problem. I am using 30lb Sufix832. Was told it is because of the line being wound on the spool loose (slack line). Happens often when casting into the wind or windy days, especially with lighter baits. I switched to 8lb mono and it still happens. I will take a while to get used to closing the bail manually, and pulling up the rod to get a taught line before reeling in, but it helps. At the end of the day, I also take off my bait (nothing at the end of the line) and let out all of the line behind the boat as its moving. Reel it in to take out the line twist. Also the first step is to make sure you put the line on the spool without line twist. I also think it is partially because of my rod. The first eyelet up from the reel is big and allows for a lot of line flap when reelig (causing a loose wind around the spool). Going to try 8-12 pound braid next year for my spinning reel. In the meantime, I switched to a baitcaster with 30lb braid for my crankbaits and it never happens there.
  22. I have a 2012 Legend XCaliber and am happy with it. The two things I recommend. 1st you already mentioned upgrading the motor. Its a must. Secondly, get the most trolling motor the boat can handle (battery compartment size) and that you can afford. For me the trolling motor is as important as the main motor.
