  1. Update: Finally got around to getting an X-Ray as per Doctor's orders. (Had to go fishing as a priority) It turns out that the X-Ray showed that I do have a piece of Walleye spike stuck in my finger. The X-Ray technician is going to call the doctor and let him know. Who will then send me to a plastic surgeon to get it removed.
  2. Latest update: I went to the walk-in clinic yesterday. The doc looked at it, rubbed his finger over it and said 'I got good news and bad news ..." He didn't really say that ... He said in order to know for sure, he is sending me for X-Rays to see if there is anything stuck in there. Fish fin/scale/parts etc have calcium and will show up on an X-Ray. I felt dissappointed, because now I have to find time to go for an X-Ray. Couldn't he just fix it right there an then. He didn't want to cut unless he knew for sure. And if it does have to be cut, he has to send me to a plastic surgeon. Anyway, hopefully tonight after work I can make it to the XRay, but the kids have soccer and this weekend is fishing time. Really need to find the time to go for the Xray to know for sure. Or maybe I just go for a second opinion in the Kawarthas as they might have more experience with fish cut stuff. Before I left, I asked the doc if I would ever be able to play the piano. He said if there is nothing in there it will heal in time and yes I will be able to play the piano. I said Great! because I never knew how to play the piano before!
  3. Tried to dig it out after the first couple of days, but I didn't see anything to dig out. Seems like a small pin hole with nothing in it. Poured alcohol on it yesterday, polysporin and a bandaid. Doesn't seem to be getting better. I dug into it today, but still can't see anything there. Going to the walk in clinic tonight. Stay tuned.
  4. I would have released it, but the prick meant war. Rolled up the split fillets with bacon and made kabobs for the BBQ.
  5. I got pricked by a Walleye a few weeks ago on my finger. It went so deep that my finger started bleeding. Not sure what part went in, but the hole is like a needle went in. A few weeks later and the scar is still there it doesn't seem to be getting better. It is very painful that I can't apply any pressure on it (when lifting things etc). Does anyone know of a (proven) Remedy to make it go away. Thinking of going to see a doctor about it. Thanks
  6. Hey Cliff, thought I saw you out there (from a distance) on Saturday, a ways out in front of your place. I wasn't in the tourney, but Walleye fishing nonetheless. Same thing for me, I found the Walleye fishing tough, but the incidental Musky good. I was thinking of bringing my 7 year old to the weigh in, but wasn't sure if the make it into an event - my son likes to see big fish.
  7. Also, Henry, if I go with a Fortrex the foot pedal is higher. I will be putting it in my Legend XCalibur. There is no "hole" to put it into to make the pedal more flush with the deck. If the pedal rests on the deck as is, wouldn't this cause more leg fatigue as you would be putting more pressure on your balance leg for long durations?
  8. Thanks Dave ... made me laugh. (I bought a rod for "pitching docks" and plastics from Dave's classified ads - hence his comment)
  9. Thanks Henry. For the record I have a Legend and love it. I currently have a Terrova and will be upgrading, but concerned about the noise vs a Fortrex.
  10. I am going to be upgrading my trolling motor this year. I can't decide between the Minn Kota Terrova or Fortrex. I fish Walleye in the spring around weedbeds and weedlines. In the summer I pitch for Largemouth in very shallow water. I've read a lot about the pros and cons of each. Deployment, steering responsiveness, i-Pilot compatibility, foot pedal profile etc. I prefer the Terrova but for one thing. My one big concern is noise. When fishing for Largemouth and I want to move with stealth around structure in shallow water does the Terrova (electric steer) spook the fish more than the Fortrex (cable steer) would? Would the noise of the motor translate to the water? Thanks
  11. Thanks for the update Cliff. We're heading up this weekend and will heed the warning.
  12. Here is a general guide:' http://www.minnkotamotors.com/shaft_length_selection.aspx?__taxonomyid=855
  13. I was thinking the same thing. I currently have a 54" shaft and was thinking of upgrading. I was wondering if the 60" shaft would get in the way of casting if fishing shallow, with having to lift it up and it sticking up 6 inches more?
  14. Cliff, I'm with Highlands Propane and the last fill up was Jan 04, '12 at 0.6550. I am renting my tanks and water heater from them.
  15. I have a Minn Kota Terrova 55lb with iPilot. Don't have experience with cable drive. Will be selling the 55lb this year and upgrading to a 80lb. I had the same question as you. Seems the cable drive is better for bass/shallow weed fishing to cut through, but don't really understand why. I like my iPilot for spot lock when fishing a weedbed for walleye. For that reason, I'm getting another Terrova with iPilot.
  16. Nice Cliff and Cliff. Wow 7-8" of ice already. Haven't been up in a while, but I'm suprised there is that much. Down in T.O. the weather has been mild, although at night it dips down quite a bit. Thanks for the report.
  17. I'm on Sturgeon Lake, north of Lindsay and currently have a water heater and furnace fuelled by propane. Currently paying 0.65500 a liter. Wondering if that's a good or bad price for bulk propane and if anyone can recommend a company for refill service for the area if its a cheaper price. Not sure if service is ever an issue. I have had good service with the company I'm with. i.e. they refill the tanks at the right times to keep me topped up, but I would think that is normal. (I don't have much experience with propane).
  18. EC, congratulations and good luck with THE SHOP.
  19. My favourite rod is the BPS Carbonlite. I jig, spinner and crankbait with it. It is everything you describe you want - very sensitive, good backbone and its extremely light. If you wait for it to go on sale it will be in the upper end of your range.

  21. Sorry your having issues, but happy to hear that I'm not the only one and I'm not crazy (my wife would beg to differ). I'll do the same. Wait till season's end and send it in. I agree that it works great, but shouldn't vibrat and rattle for a Curado.
  22. On my 101D the VBS cover plate, you have to screw on. Meaning you just keep turning it until its nice and tight. With the 201E7 the VBS cover plate clicks into place with a 1/4" turn. 1/4" turn open, 1/4" turn closed. I just took it out on the driveway and tried the following. I opened the VBS cover plate, pushed it in as snug as I could without turning it, then when I thought it was in good and tight, I turned the handle to a click to close it. Seemed to keep the spool tight. I tried to move the spool with my finger and it didn't move. Thanks for the tip. I started casting on the driveway and I still felt something loose. I checked the spool mid-retreive and it was tight. Something else was loose. I checked the handle and it moves slightly backwards. When I reel in really fast, the handle seems to jiggle. Maybe that's what I was feeling on retreive? I checked my 101D to see if the handle jiggles and it does, but doesn't do it on retrieve. On the 201E7 it does and really bothers me. Does your handle jiggle on the Cronarch Mg?
  23. I agree. I can't justify the cost for panfish either.
  24. That was my reasoning on wanting a 7' rod. Better castability.
  25. Is this the series you are referring to? http://www.basspro.com/Bass-Pro-Shops-Micro-Lite-Graphite-Spinning-Rods/product/10204875/-1645729 If not, can you send me the link if its not to much trouble. Want to make sure we are talking about the same thing. This is what I was considering in a 7'. I could wait until they go on sale if you got it for $30.00 Also wanted to see what other recommendations were out there.
