  1. Yes you can do this.. Hook up the batteries in series + - + - for 24V for the new trolling motor.. But only hook up everything else to ONE battery + - for 12V Or you could wire your accessories to the engine starting battery.
  2. Yes I stand corrected, I was trying to edit my post but my computer went nuts, so you beat me to it.. I also read that it DOES contain petroleum .. I guess I shouldn't have believed that E-mail I got a few months ago about WD-40..
  3. Actually, not many people know this, but WD-40 is mainly fish oil based.. There is little, if any petroleum in it..
  4. Lol, good video... And most of those tips are legit... Especially the one about Camo!
  5. Good pics.. Even though you only got out fishing 3 times all year, you caught more fish than me!!
  6. I agree with the above statement.. This is why I stated to use the oil provided with the unit, which is usually a non- synthetic.. After the engine is broken in and the rings are seated into the cylinder, then you can switch to a synthetic oil. Synthetic oils don't allow the rings to "wear" because they are too slippery - which is what your trying to do when breaking it in. Also in regards to breaking in an engine: don't baby it too much.. The engine rings won't seat properly if the engine idles too much.. So let it warm up a few minutes, then put it under load (drill).. But be careful not to rev it too much, as a fresh engine can't handle max RPM Right away.
  7. You will see more fisherman on the lakes after Jan. 1st when lakers open.. Also, the ice isn't totally safe yet on larger lakes.. Pretty much every lake in the Sudbury region that can be accessed by truck or snowmobile will be fished by someone..
  8. LOL, I'm still old school.. Even though I run synthetics in everything, I still mix it according to manufactur specs... Plug fouling for me hasn't been an issue with good warm up time.
  9. Congrats on the new auger.. For fuel - I think they are meaning to use premium 91 octane fuel.. Not so much for the octane rating, more so for the lack of ethanol... Ethanol reeeks havoc on 2 stroke engines.. For oil: if they provided a jug, run that for the first tank or 2 ( until its finished).. Then switch to a synthetic 2 stroke oil.. It is hard to find, but they do have Amsoil and Shell brand snowmobile oils at Canadian tire. I would play it safe and mix it 50:1.. As far as the stabilizer recommended, it's not a concern if the auger is going to get regular use.. Worry about adding that at the end of the season so the carb doesn't get gummed up during the summer.. Stabilizer also offsets the ethanol issue, which is not a concern if you use Shell V- power 91... Happy fishing!
  10. That thing has more R value than my house!! Looks good so far!
  11. The one thing I don't like about winter is my beer freezes if I don't drink it fast enough!
  12. There is ice in Sudbury on the small lakes.. Which lake are you thinking of going to?
  13. I didn't get any actual fishing gear for Christmas, but my wife renewed my outdoors card for 3 years.. I thought that was pretty thoughtful.
  14. Great progress on the hut.. I live in Sudbury too ... What lake are you planning to put the hut out on??
  15. Actually my hut has one of those oval tin can wood stoves too!! Put too much wood in and it becomes a sauna!
  16. When I built my 8x8 hut we used 2x3 on 24" centers.. Actually we ripped 2x6's in half because it's cheaper.. The outside was covered in 1/4" aspenite ( chip board) and inside was covered with the cheapest panelling I could find, as I didn't want to look at bare studs and styrofoam.. It also gives you space to put up x-rated or fishing pictures. Floors and roof are 2x4 on 16"center.. Strength doesn't seem to be an issue. You seem to be on the right track with your hut, I really like the notched out ski idea, it would tie everything together and give it strength. I recommend Ripped 2x6 walls ( so 2x3), and if your sheeting with 3/8" plywood - glued and screwed 24" stud centers will be plenty strong.. As the sheeting will add rigidity if it's glued and screwed too. I also recommend panelling the interior to give it a finished look, Which also gives you the option to paint as well. You've done a good job so far, so might as well make the inside nice to look at since that's what you see when your out there. I can't wait to see the finished product.
  17. Be careful at the Christmas party if you drink.. More people are fired the week after, than any other time of year.
  18. Yes either way would be good, but Sinkers method would be less labour.. I assume you thought of this because you don't want your skis on the outer edge of the hut. If everything including the plywood is glued and screwed it will be rock solid
  19. Yeah the van will probably be ok.. Biggest concern would be damaged brakes, most likely a bent dust shield on the inside of the brake assembly.
  20. This is common practice with BRP.. They do not honor warranty with products bought in the U.S. Also, most U.S. Dealers will not sell to Canadian residents as they risk having their franchise pulled.. You may have to return to the U.S to get it repaired under warranty.
  21. I also upgraded this year from a tent to a 1997 fleetwood 8ft. The wife and love it! No more sleeping on the ground and my personal favorite- cupboards!! You know all that little stuff you forget on a trip, well, it's already in there!! Just have to pack food, clothes and beer and off I go.. Also mine has a fridge and furnace, which is sweet.. Lunchmeat, vegetables and milk carton stay dry and the furnace extends the season.. We are actually using it for the last time this year at a friends house to crash in after a Halloween party.. Hope I don't run out of propane!!
  22. In regards to running engines dry, I believe it's only good practice on carburated 4 strokes.. Reason being - a 2 stroke is lubed by the oil in the fuel, so a dry carb is also dry crank bearings. An EFI 4 stroke has fuel injectors, and a fuel pump in which the moving parts are cooled and lubricated by the fuel, so a dry fuel system is also an unlubed one. My choice is to run stabilizer and drain the bowl on the carb for storage. Also some oil in the cylinders just to prevent rust.
  23. I do it all the time.. My truck, quad, lawnmower etc have all seen mixed gas and honestly I can't tell the difference performance wise.
  24. I would recommend the Sudbury area.. There are loads of lodging with the amentities you are looking for.. Google "fishing Sudbury" "fishing Markstay" "fishing Espanola" etc.. Just about every lake that you can drive to has a lodge on it
