  1. Some guy from a similar (but slightly more reputable) company, I forget which one but it wasn't Summitt, came to my door and I had just finished watching some stupid documentary called End of Suburbia (it's about peak oil) and I was convinced that gas prices were about to skyrocket. On top of that, I knew a few friends who had signed up when rates were lower and they were now really benefiting from their contract, so I signed up and you know what? Since day 1, I paid way more than anyone in town who didn't sign up. Several years later, I was still paying far more than anyone buying direct from Union Gas. I ended up getting out of the contract by moving into a place where I didn't pay the bills (my parents' place - it was only for a month in between a move, but they didn't know that). I'll never sign up again. It was a waste of money, and breaking a contract requires paying out big bucks or proving that you moved to a location where you don't pay the bills. I'll take my chances with Union - and over two years since the move, I'm STILL paying less than I would be if I were still with the contractor.
  2. Is it actually WalMart's money, or is this funded by them panhandling their consumers at the checkouts like most everything else WalMart "donates" to?
  3. I decided to look for some creeks, but the water level is so low that most places I found were super shallow, no flow, and no fish in the ones I managed to toss a line into. Someone was fishing in one of them (Wabi Creek, I believe) because I saw dead bait on the side of the road, along with bread. And the bait was massive.. I've caught perch and rock bass smaller, heh. I ended up at a public launch for Montreal River and caught three small pike but then I felt like crap so I went home.
  4. There's a lake I've seen and was considering trying out sometime. It is reported to have brook trout, but it isn't a stocked lake (at least it isn't on the most recent MNR list of stocked lakes). I saw a little campsite + fire pit there, so I know people have tried it, but I dunno if they were successful. However, the deepest part of the lake is said to be about 7 feet, and the average depth is about 3.5-4 feet. This seems kinda shallow to me. The lake surface area is about 5 hectares. Would you try the lake, given this description? Or is it a waste of time? There are some stocked lakes around, and one of them is close to this one but I checked it for a public access point and couldn't find it. I'm waiting on the MNR to get back to me with details on if there is one for that lake. I really don't know much about fishing for any kind of trout (obviously I can't catch aurora trout, we all know that), so I thought I'd try getting my feet wet on brookies first. I was planning to try out the following lures: Mepps Aglia or Panther Martin spinners, or a Little Cleo or small Williams Wobbler spoons... Does that sound right? Most of my kit is dedicated to bass and pike right now, just because that's mainly all I ever targeted but I'm looking to expand my horizons. I don't have a fly fishing setup, but I am interested in going that route sometime. I just don't know too much about it, if you have to spend the big bucks or can get away with a cheap combo, where it works, etc. But that's another post for another time, maybe.
  5. I've had nothing but problems with my Berkley lines. I also had problems with PowerPro and Fireline Crystal, but nowhere near as much as the Trilene stuff. But I kinda like the stretch in mono line for whatever reason. I'll be giving Suffix Siege a shot next. Thanks for that info. My CT didn't have NanoFil in stock anyhow.
  6. LOL, that's awesome how he got a fish right as you pranked him. Hahah
  7. Well, the remainder of my Trilene XL got completely screwed up after a couple hours of Hula Popping in the dark last night, so I'll see if my local CT has this in stock and if they do, I'll give it a whirl too.
  8. I went back and checked out the 2008 report, and then this one, and wow. I am really a bit jealous. I love the cold, and I think I'd be right at home there... Some gorgeous fish, and prettier scenery. The water looks so nice. Only in my dreams.
  9. I ordered some lures from that site on Aug 8th, and they arrived today. Looking forward to trying them out! Great prices, really. Thanks T.J.! Edit: I tried them out tonight. FIRST CAST I got a smallmouth with the darker green frog! Lost it at the dock as I bent down to grab it the hook popped out, so I didn't get a pic. Great lure!
  10. Looks like a discarded prop from a David Lynch movie. Maybe it's the Eraserhead baby! Or a catfish. They look the exact same to my eye. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=49R0z-PUqAs
  11. I've said it for years, and I continue to say it: people are stupid. That goes for the litterers, as well as the diapersmearers.
  12. I forget which Compre model(s), but Le Baron had some on sale for $40 on their site when I checked a couple days back. I'm guessing it's some of the old stock that's going away, but it could be worth looking at. That's almost Ugly Stik prices..
  13. I keep telling my cousin that, and he wonders why he still hasn't caught a bass.
  14. Yeah that's nice and all, but I had to stop it half-way through. I was starting to feel bad for trying to pierce their mouths with a sharp hook, and worse still for slicing them up with my filet knife.
  15. If by "GSP thingies" you mean "GSP photos", here's a few for ya: Hope that helps.
  16. Is it a Humminbird LCR4ID!?! That's what I have! Red and black Tetris bricks FTW
  17. Wow... Lucky, indeed. I hope to never be in this situation. I like my little northern Ontario lakes. Thanks for sharing.
  18. I don't know about Fang, but I want one of each!
  19. This is what did the last two trips to Mattagami Lake, got some walleye that way, yup. The people I was fishing with were not doing it this way, they put the sinker above the hook. We all caught fish. I didn't know it was called something specific or anything. But now I do.
  20. Very nice fish! Sounds like Mike will be very successful as a guide. Kinda makes me want to take a trip..
  21. Well, I've had some good success with the Cotton Cordell Super Spot, including early morning bass and my PB birthday bass... But I hooked a floating dock with it the other day and had to cut the line... It's at a family cottage, so I'll get it back soon. I tried to canoe out to it but the waves were super rough and I was not getting anywhere I wanted to be. First time hooking a dock, but it was mostly the wind's fault.
  22. Part Two: My cousin and my friend came over and we hit the Montreal again tonight. My friend always uses pickerel rigs, and today was no exception. The difference this time is he was the first to hook a fish (a little bass), but it got off after a nice jump. I was trying all kinds of lures to see what they were hitting on, but when he had that hit on a dead, frozen minnow, I put on my trusty floating Rapala (this time a new, jointed natural gold one). Within a few casts, I also had a hit - a little pike: By that time, it started to rain lightly, and picked up shortly after and didn't let up until we left. We were drenched, cold, and tired (especially me), but there are few things I'd rather do on a Saturday afternoon/evening. Here's the second one: I didn't want to keep either of them, but my buddy wanted them so I let him have them. Aside from these two, I had a bass hit as I was shore-walking with my lure in the water. I wasn't expecting it, and it jumped and I lost it shortly after. I had another pike on at another point but lost that, too. I clipped on my BRAND NEW Rattlin' Rapala, as I told my cousin about how I bought it and lost it at Gillies Lake, bought a replacement and lost that under the Latchford bridge last week, and then now was going to try the third time I bought it. First cast, the knot on the swivel came undone or the line broke or something and the freaking lure flew into the middle of the river. This is the only lure that does this to me! My knots (palomar) are fine, it's just that cursed lure, I tell ya! Woulda been nice to land some bass (or walleye), but hey, at least I got something. My cousin didn't even get a bite, and my friend lost a couple minnows from his hooks after losing the bass, but nothing hooked. All in all, it was a great night with friends in the pouring rain at my favorite spot. I've never left there without landing something, knock on wood. hahaha, I agree.
  23. Liberty Lake is so peaceful (and misty/foggy) in the morning. It was almost cleared up when we took this pic: I did not catch any Aurora Trout. I've now put over 18 hours into this lake with nothing but a lost lure to show for it... Hard to want to go back, especially when my fish-finder shows me stuff like this: The red Tetris bricks are supposedly fish, but I think they're ghosts. Shoulda brought a Proton Pack instead of a fishing rod. Ghosts also jump, apparently. Right near the boat, too. Little buggers teasing me, they were. On the way home I stopped to do a handful of casts at a couple water access points along the road. And I caught something!!! My new personal best sardine!!! I was so happy!!! It was a nice morning with the wife, at least. She wanted to keep that perch as a pet, lol! And man, outside is pretty. So peaceful. And I love the rain. Just wish I could figure out what I'm doing wrong at Liberty Lake. Waking up at 4am again doesn't appeal right now. Time for a nap, and then hopefully hitting Montreal River again with a couple friends.
