  1. Hey guys, I need someone to take a look at my boat, I'm just looking to take it to someone honest. Anybody have any experience getting their boats serviced around the Belleville area? Thanks.
  2. Last May when the water was really cold and it was very windy I was fishing for pike and walleye when I saw a canoe in the middle of the lake, thought to myself I'd never be crazy enough to canoe in those waves when the water was this cold. I was driving past and noticed nobody was in it, figured it blew loose off somebody's dock. Went over to see and noticed rods, a cooler of beer and a radio still going inside, plus a life jacket, but nobody inside. Went looking in the direction it was blowing from and after a few minutes found a guy's face poking up out of the waves, boy was he happy to see me! He was so cold he could barely talk and I had to pretty much carry him back to his house where his wife promptly gave him crap. No life jacket, wearing jeans, boots and a sweater, he probably only had a few minutes left before he was going under for good. That was my best find. Didn't catch anything that day but I didn't mind, that was enough action for me. I've also found rods, clothing, a boat ladder, lures, etc...while trolling for lakers.
  3. Seeing this thread again brings back some memories. Thanks for all the tips guys! I've since caught 45 musky and trolled up 5 musky for other people. Nothing amazing but a hell of a lot better than how I was doing before. I haven't been out much this year but hopefully tomorrow I can get out and catch some more.
  4. Yep, I had to do the same thing earlier this year. Such a waste, I just kept telling myself the turtles will be eating well.
  5. Sickening. I had a musky die on me for the first time this year. I was trolling a big jake, reel goes off so I grabbed the rod but see something is very wrong. The back hook is all that got him and unfortunately it hit his throat and opened it right up. Wasn't quite legal size either so nothing I could do with it, just a crappy feeling. I switched to fishing for another species and it was nearly two months before I finally went back out for musky. I've heard people talk about killing them so it doesn't surprise me but it's still absolutely disgusting. I couldn't imagine killing one on purpose for no reason. I feel terrible enough for having killed one by accident.
  6. Great fish! Still trying for my first 50"er, got to get out more.
  7. You make a lot more money doing long hauls with more than just a DZ licence. That's what my dad did for years. You'll never be home though so is it really worth it?
  8. Can't wait to start chasing after that elusive 50"er again!
  9. Bass are annoying. I even catch the damn things on 10" jerkbaits and 12" bucktails while musky fishing all throughout the summer. REAL fun towing a 15" bass in on heavy gear, that is....This time of year though? Makes me not even want to go pike fishing half the time with how annoying the bass are.
  10. Funny that my review sounds like a 12 year old's, when mine is well thought out, contains facts and I actually know how to speak English. Maybe you only see a resemblance to 12 year old girls because you have a thing for 12 year old girls.....
  11. Haha yep, I'm convinced Scott Stevens was a good player. I guess I'm just like a 12 year old girl, as is every single hockey analyst out there apparently. Nice that you have to resort to childish insults since you can't actually refute anything that I've said. I feel so bad though that you called me a 12 year old girl, almost as bad as I feel when my 5 year old niece calls me silly.
  12. Ahh of course you aren't interested in his trophies, they prove that your argument that Stevens wasn't a good player but just a predator on the ice holds no merit. You're wrong. He's in the hockey hall of fame for crying out loud. Hows that for being respected by his peers and people who played and coached in the NHL? Funny that such a useless player who only managed to hurt people in his 1635 game career managed to fool so many people (who actually know hockey) into thinking he was a good player. Slava Kozlov himself stated that he thought Stevens hit was clean and that he was a clean player. Strange that TSN even celebrates his career by showing "Top 10 Scott Stevens Hits" on national TV. How dare they admire that monster?!!! Ahhh, the good ol' meathead line. If you don't like our wanting to change the game that has been physical and tough since it was created, you must be (insert insult here). Tie Domi basically "ended" Ulf Samuelsson's career (if we use your benchmark on what constitutes "ending" a career) because Ulf called him Dummy. Seriously, he hurt his feelings so Domi hurt his face. Yes, Ulf was dirty but that was still way dirtier than anything Stevens did. Lindros suffered his 4th concussion (2nd of the year) in March of 2000 (year of the Stevens hit). He criticized the trainers for not diagnosing his concussion, he suffered another concussion while training to get back in the lineup (his 5th), then returned in the playoffs, only playing two games before the Stevens hit (his 6th concussion). He received 4 concussions that season, was playing while still having post concussion syndrome. The Stevens hit was such a small part of why he had all of those issues. It was Lindros' fault, as well as his trainers/team doctors for even playing before he was ready. But oh, lets blame Stevens because he had a highlight reel hit in the playoffs, he's such a big meanie! I guess Stevens should just have avoided touching Lindros because he had concussions before. Oh wait, even that wouldn't have helped him much because Lindros gave himself one of his concussions while THROWING a hit. Oh, you're right, Stevens' peers all hated him because he hit them too hard in a CONTACT sport. Yep, you're spot on. It's pretty clear you have no idea what you're talking about so I'll just leave it at that and let you have your "victory". Too bad for you Scott Stevens still has his 3 Stanley cup rings, Conn Smythe trophy, made the all rookie team, was a 1st team all star once, 2nd team all star 3 times and played in the all star game 14 times. Oh and was the longest serving captain of a team he helped go from a "mickey mouse organization" to one of the most successful franchises of the last 20 years while being in the hall of fame and is very well respected in the hockey community.
  13. How about his Conn Smythe trophy? There's your individual trophy. Best defenseman on a cup winning team 3 times. Edmonton DID win without Gretzky but that didn't diminish how great he was, so your point doesn't matter. New Jersey never won a cup without Stevens, by the way. That's a fact, not a what if or maybe. Domi...now THERE'S a guy who added nothing but ending players careers. Literally, unlike Stevens who never ended anyone's career despite your claim. What Stevens did was within the rules of the game. His peers respected him which is why he was never named as one of the dirtiest players in the NHL on any player polls. Lindros ruined Lindros. Like I stated earlier, the Stevens hit wasn't his first concussion. Wasn't even his 2nd. Kasparaitis gave Lindros his first. He's 5'11", Lindros is 6'4". He caught Lindros straight on the jaw despite never leaving his feet. How did that happen? Because Lindros had a bad habit of keeping his head down. Should people have let up on poor little old LIndros because he looked at the puck? Because Lindros certainly never held up on the forecheck. I seem to recall Lindros playing after the Stevens hit too, and getting more concussions after that. Stevens never ruined him, despite your claim. The facts suggest otherwise. It was one of many concussions Lindros received in the middle of his career. Just so happened to be his most famous. Yes, I WILL applaud Stevens and his career. I was never a Devils fans (quite the opposite) but I enjoyed the way he played the game. Don't like it? Go watch soccer.
  14. Stevens added nothing to the game other than ruining careers? Hmmm, tell that to the New Jersey Devils and their 3 Stanley Cups in a 9 year span. The guy was a great defenseman. There's tons of big hitters, the Leafs have had their share. Stevens was just the best at it. Elbows? Show me where he elbows somebody. The guy had 2 elbowing penalties in his entire career. He always tucked his elbow in and threw it out after contact to explode the guy off of himself. Teams used to have to game plan to avoid Stevens' side of the ice in the playoffs, people were afraid to carry the puck across the ice coming into their zone. His hits had a huge effect on the GAME. Besides, he didn't ruin Lindros' career, Lindros did that himself. His concussions started when he got hit by Kasparitis, not Stevens. Guy just couldn't keep his head up.
  15. As stated earlier, his hits were perfectly legal at the time, not remotely dirty. He was a devastating hitter, the best of his generation. Chris Pronger was a MUCH dirtier player than Stevens and he was still able to play in the "new NHL". Wendel Clark would have been suspended a ton of games for his hit on that poor bugger behind the net but it wasn't a bad hit at the time so who cares? You don't think these players are smart enough to change their games, especially Stevens who was one of the best defensive defensemen of his generation? HIs hits on Francis, Lindros, Kariya, Kozlov, Willis, etc.... all came in the playoffs, he only destroyed players when it counted. He had the ability to ease up during the regular season so he would have been smart enough to tweak his hitting technique. Just because a player gets a concussion doesn't mean it was a dirty hit. Look at his hit on Francis. I LOVED Francis growing up being a Pens fan, it was tough to watch him crawling on the ice/falling over afterwards. I had no problem with the hit though. The NHL needs to seriously start looking at equipment. Shoulder/elbow pads that are hard as a rock and can stop a bullet are not needed. They're used as a weapon, just like helmets are in football. Shanahan of all people should know this, he wore the same old, tiny shoulder pads his entire career.
  16. He most certainly could. His hits were very rarely contacting the head as the principal point of contact, it was usually shoulder to the chest. He just hit with such a force that it hurt people (brain hitting the skull causes concussions, don't need any contact to the head for that). Also remember that Stevens biggest hits were almost always in the playoffs, he played for keeps then. Plus his hits happened during game play and had a purpose, it's part of hockey. Sucker punching a guy well after the whistle when he's on the ice is bush league garbage and had nothing to do with game play. As for the Orpik hit, it was a good clean hit. Eriksson had a chance to make a play on the puck, it was a classic suicide pass scenario. He stepped up on a player who looked to be receiving a pass (and likely would have 9 times out of 10). It's not like he has to wait until Eriksson has full possession of the puck by taking a few strides after receiving it. If that hit is illegal you might as well just ban body checking altogether.
  17. Thornton kept challenging a guy who rarely fights, Orpik declines. He follows him around, slew foots him/pulls him to the ice and delivers a couple of blows to his head when he's defenseless, LONG after the whistle. It was a premeditated and as cheap as they come, had nothing to do with the game of hockey. It went against the "code", throw the book at him. All because Orpik threw a clean hit on a player. I guess the NHL is becoming a league of pansies where players can't even throw a hit without worrying about some goon assaulting them. I'm not against fighting by the way, but that wasn't a fight. Anybody who defends Thornton is a moron. Neal's knee was dirty as well, not on the level of Thornton's as it wasn't planned. Just a dumb, careless split second decision by Neal to not try to avoid Marchand. He deserves to sit too, but not as long as Thornton. I wish Neal would smarten up and not be such a sneaky little weasel. He's too good of a hockey player to be resorting to that kind of crap and he's going to get somebody seriously injured if he keeps it up.
  18. There's always sled dogs.
  19. Notice the "blood" on his t-shirt before he gets hit. Maybe from take 1? lol
  20. I got checked once this year, a couple of years ago I had an MNR officer pull into the driveway and ask me what I caught when I was bringing my rods down to my truck from the house, I hadn't even left to go fishing yet lol. Also had MNR officers stop and talk to me once or twice when I was a kid. Never had them screaming at me or jumping out of bushes haha, they were always polite, just asking me what I caught/how the fishing was, checked licences, etc..
  21. If anything, not shooting it would be kind of racist.......
  22. Wow 4 years old and your son is already a better fisherman than me! Great video Simon, thanks for sharing!
  23. Stacy from Protackle was just talking to me today about a new reel he's going to be carrying, retails for $230. I can't remember the name of it for the life of me, though.
  24. How far from the sinker should the hair rig sit? I'll have to give it a try sometime soon, been wanting to catch a carp for a long time now.
