  1. I would go with the cheap stuff, unless the boat sits a while. If it has been 3 weeks since your last outing top up with premium. Gas goes stale much faster now than it used to. If your boat is premix, the gas looses 2 octane points as soon as you mix the oil so it is a little more important to have fresh gas or use premium.
  2. I'm sure you will get lots of different opinions here, with a 4 stroke I would just continue as you are.
  3. For clarification, you get advantages for having multiple insurance with one company, for example, discounts, one deductable, but you can still have separate policies with that company. If there is a claim your premium only goes up on that policy, not your other policys with the same company.
  4. Try kijji for the seat.
  5. When I replaced my prop with a weedless one from crappy tire, it is faster than it ever was, and it is truely weedless in forward.
  6. The sunken hut is metal, with a chocolate brown roof. I'm flying a Rans S6 ultralight.
  7. I flew over the lake wednesday. The West side has a large open hole just south of Goreski's and several small open spots just to the north. The tip of the Island has 3 large open spots so it is almost half water. Between Washburn and Ceasarea there are 2 large open spots and some smaller ones. Still an open spot south of Cesarea also. Many of the normal lines and cracks in the ice have open spots about the size of a 4 wheeler along them. There is one hut half sunk in front of View lake. IMO,,, It is ok to go out, just don't wander around, especially after dark. There was one vehicle, a full size black ford pickup on the ice in front of Goreski's.
  8. When I called last summer they were very helpful and spent a lot of time on the phone with me. I need a new transducer for an old LCX 15 if anyone has one to sell.
  9. Our hut uses the same bbq, but econo version. Instead of the lid there is a flat piece of stainless steel with the 3" pipe coming off one end. I'm sure it is not as efficient as as the fancy one but we can cook on the stainless. We have been using it for 5 yrs, works great.
  10. Be careful out there!! I went to the hut this afternoon, 1 km to give the minnows fresh water. There are 2 holes the size of a 4 wheeler opened up from the rain draining through a crack. There was 2-3 inches of water on most of the ice. At night it would be very hard to see with the headlights reflecting.
  11. I went snorkeling there. I was only there a few hrs, but one of the nicest places I have ever seen. I would like to go back and stay a week.
  12. I have only caught one so far and I go out for an hour almost every night. Everyone I have talked to in this area is about the same. I can't really move around the lake because there are too many unsafe spots to be travelling after dark.
  13. There were still many spots of open water Sat morning even though it was -15 fri night. It is actually more dangerous now because there is a skim of thin ice over these areas so you cannot see where they are. This is not intended to scare anyone away, I have been on the ice since opening day and the ice is thick in most places. If you don't know the lake follow someones path. I know the lake well, but I won't travel at night this year as there are just too many bad spots, and it is very easy to get disoriented when it is dark.
  14. Just a heads up, I flew over Scugog today and there are still open patches of water. South west of Washburn, and south west of Ceasarea. I didn't see the West side of the lake but I would assume there is open water at Goreski's and the tip of the Island.
  15. Today was the 3rd evening in a row, new location, same result, no fish. Just under 4" of good ice where I was.
  16. We have been out for a couple of hours the last 2 nights. One crappie between us. We could not put the hut where we wanted it, the ice is still too thin. We are on a weed line in 5 fow 300' from shore. Last winter was our worst yet, and the summer was not any better. I tried suggestions, Erie deery along weedlines, shallower water, deeper, the other end of the lake etc. I live on the east side of the lake so I know where the contours and weeds are. I also have the advantage of being able to fish at dusk. I used to catch pickeral, have they changed that much? Most people I talk to have had the same results as me, but others are catching more than ever. I'm begining to think that the people saying they are catching fish get kickbacks from the bait store for telling their stories. PS, there are still lots of Bass in the lake
  17. Don't forget that sliders melt at a specific temperature. Slow down if you feel them dragging or can smell them, this makes a huge difference.
  18. I walked on Scugog today. 10' from shore there was a little over an inch , it would creak and crack if there were any lines or impurities. I could see it was still open in the middle.

  20. My friend has the eskimo from costco. It works terrific and extremely light. The prime ball went brittle on the carb, I assume because the ethanol in regular gas attacked it. One year we fogged it and ran the tank dry for storage. The next winter I had to open the carb because the diaphram was dried out. My advice would be premium gas from shell, stabilizer at the end of the year, and once a year I open the gearbox to push the grease back into the gears as the manual recomends.
  21. Most minivans are rated to tow 3500 lbs are you sure you need a new tow vehicle. My neighbour tows a 19' nitro fish and ski and a 150 with his mini van. I'm not sure I agree with this, but it depends how often and how far you tow.
  22. [ Keep in mind that the listed milage ratings are not realistic. I'm not sure about the cars, but the new trucks do not get 30 mpg as they claim. They are much better than the old ones though. I haven't quite figured out how Ford, GM, Honda and Dodge all have the best milage as the comercials on tv claim.
  23. The small trucks are not much better on fuel than the full size trucks. I would recomend an Equinox or Terrain with a 4 cyl. They get excellent milage and are rated to tow 1500lbs. My v6 Terrain tows my 2200 lbs nitro very well, but the milage is not great.
  24. Some of the newer lights are led's, therefore no bulb to replace. Make sure the unit has power and a ground to it. Since I don't have a princecraft, and I can't see the light, I cannot be sure.
  25. I agree, birch needs to be split, even if it is not big. It will dry much faster if it is piled single row in direct sunlight.
