  1. Im a huge fan too, been watching for years! One of my many dreams in life is to race in the dakar, likely wont happen unless i come across a lot of money. Id enter in the car category with my ZR2 Blazer.
  2. Thats an excellent suggestion!! I have a few of those containers around the house. I have a portable aerator, ill use that to keep them alive while im at the cottage and take it with me when im on the lake. Thanks for your help!!
  3. How do i get my minnows to the lake? i live approx 30 min by sled to the lake. Is there a small airtight bucket or box on the market? also where can i put it, i have a large travel knapsack for transporting my gear, i suppose i can put it in their. would the violent shaking from trail riding to the lake, kill the minnows? any help would be great thanks
  4. Have any fish been caught there recently? i know it can be good at first ice. ill be up there for the next week. hoping the rains wont damage the ice too much. if not ice fishing then im sure there are a few bows swimming the shoreline.
  5. I fished penetang bay last xmas and did ok on pike, 2 in 6 hours, maybe not great but fish is a fish. I tried in january those holes irish was talking about off of sucker creek pt in 60-70fow, no luck but marked something on bottom. actually caught a perch in 55 fow out there in mid feb. ive fished midland bay and ive caught pike, herring, perch, lakers and whities, never know what your going to get but by no means do u catch fish in numbers. i bought a sled this year so i plan to scour severn sound seeking pike, eyes and lakers this winter. anyone keen on hooking up , pm me.
  6. HAs anyone ever done it? where did you go? I bought a sled this year and would like to find some lakes that are accessible by sled, do some fishing, set up camp, cook your catch and camp out for the night. Can anyone lead me in the right direction as to where some lakes are accessible by sled. South of sudbury. I camp all summer and id be going out with friends, not alone. thanks
  7. Central Marine was letting guys launch on saturday, $15. Call in advance. They are located on midland Bay. bloody cold on saturday and saw some boats trolling the bay, no idea how they made out. krawler
  8. Im seeing a lot of reports coming from this place ... where is it?
  9. Im looking for the exact same sled, where did you buy it? how much? how many km's?
  10. I love surf fishing, throw out a egg sinker, flouro lead, small hook and roe or worm and wait for the bows. I fish this way on gbay. I live in west end toronto near the humber, is there any place that i can do this in the west end from toronto to burlington and have the chance to get into a few fish? Ive never done it here, ive seen guys do it at rivermouths out east, is it done in the west and if so where? i dont have a lot of time but found some time tomorrow and would love to give it a shot. thanks
  11. Quantum Coldwater Series are the cheapest and the strongest in my opinion. I only buy quantum now.
  12. Hoping to get out this weekend for some shallow water rainbow fishing with the mast and big boards. i was hoping to go to the mouth of the notty or near collingwood. Im assuming the bows should be in 15 fow give or take. ive never had any success with planer boards, some success flatlining, mind you ive only ever done either a handful of times. since im fishing in 15 fow using J5's, and ac shiners, i guess there is no point letting over 100 feet of line out. should my leads be casting distance, 30 or so feet. Troll aimlessely along the shoreline. should i be looking for structure, deeper water, shallower. basically any tips would be appreciated. thanks
  13. Id like to buy a sled for ice fishing and trail riding. I know absolutely nothing about sleds but am willing to take courses and learn from friends about the rules, machine and riding safely. First i need to buy a sled, any tips as to what to look for when buying a used sled? dont want to spend more than 3g's. any brands and models to stay away from. i dont want to buy a really old sled but something reasonable for the amount of money id like to spend. Thanks
  14. Friend said he caught his first salmon in the rivers up there on Aug 14th after a huge rain. he said by first week of sept run was over. im still catching salmon right now, still some silver ones coming in. the river i fish get s a run of salmon in november every year after the first heavy rain. stay on the rivers and fish them, timing is key is no salmon then u should get some small bows.
  15. Thanks for the quick responses, im assuming i can buy aquaseal at BPS or crappy tire?
  16. I have a tear in my neoprene waders above the rubber boot. not very big but big enough to allow water in. what can i use to patch up the hole and what glue should i use? ive tried a few glues but most of them get absorbed into the material and they dont provide enough strength to hold the patch. Can i sew the hole and then attach a patch? any suggestions?
  17. In your opinion is the main fall salmon run over around Lake Ontario rivers? The big rain we had a few weeks brought in a lot of fish but was that the main run? I ask this because everywhere i read and check reports that guys trolling rivermouths or locations on the lake, most are reporting smaller salmon, no staging fish. id like to get out for some staging kings but are there any left? thanks
  18. Id like to keep some crayfish alive for as long as possible for fishing in the late fall. I have a cottage where i can easily catch 100 in a day. i was thinking of drilling some holes in a few buckets, attaching a rope, add a few rocks and let it sink. i can feed the crayfish once a week. would this work for a long period of time? Does anyone know what happens to crayfish once the temps in the lake start to drop? do they stop feeding, bury themselves under a rock, move locations - deep or shallow, are they active all year? info like this will help keep them alive for as long as possible. thanks
  19. Just bought a merc 9.9 bigfoot, im mounting it on my swim platform. A few questions ... does anyone simply use the throttle to control the speed instead of using a single lever throttle at the helm or a troll-master system? I know it would be easier to have something mounted at the helm but is it really necessary to have? The main motor is a I/O and want to link the two motors for steering purposes, anything out there thats cheaper than the EZ-steer system? Finally, the kicker does not have an alternator, is it possible to install one? thanks
  20. Site is under construction .... where do you get them from? always like to add a few spoons to my arsenal. thanks
  21. So what do you want to know? Typically fishing in early spring around the triangle is tough. At least it is for trout and salmon. Many different tactics can be used to put fish in the boat but the biggest thing working against you is time. Its a large area to fish and its difficult to pinpoint where the fish are. Bows should be shallow, lakers are all over the water column and salmon are still deep or making the transition to late spring habitat patterns. Knowing these things you would think you could pinpoint a few areas and work them for fish. Not the case in the triange, so much structure and area to fish in addition to the fact that fishing is not what it used to be with numbers and sizes way down. I was out on sunday morning and afternoon, started off at cedar point and trolled all the way to methodist point, even trolled the shallow waters inside thunder beach. I got skunked! Trolled shallow, deep, leacore off boards, flatlining, riggers, you name it i tried it. very few fish marked. mayb e just one of those days but looking back ive never had much luck spring trolling in the triangle. typically fish will be found in key areas such as owen sound, collingwood, etc. We have to wait for the fish to follow the bait or wait for temps to warm up before they start showing up in any numbers. I imagine lakers would be easiest to target, fish the usual spots that you would in the summer, slow down your presentation and wait. im up every weekend, ill still be trolling and making attempts to find the fish, persistence will pay off. I think a good indicator of lack of fish is the fact that there are never any boats trolling the area. Stay towards the sound a try for pike or walleye. lakers might be found in the hole and maybe even some salmon. ill be out that way on the weekend. keep in touch
  22. Looks like you were fishing in my neck of the woods. cottage is just south of cedar point. looks like you covered all the typical areas for lakers, northern tip of beckwith and SW tip has always been a hot spot for me for lakers spring summer and fall. also NW of christian shoal in 200fow comes up to 90ft, always holds lakers. sometimes if im hugging the shorline and along marks point, cedar point or methodist and nothings happening ill switch sides of the channel and fish the shorlines around the islands, sometimes it seems to work. ill be out this weekend same area just as you were hoping to hook anything that mayb e interested in biting. the guy with the cottage is a real nice english speaking guy, owns a gorgeous cat style boat for rigging. krawler
  23. ANybody out for walley and pike on the sound? i was out saturday, left midland, fished waubashene, port severn and victoria harbour tough conditions, managed a handful of perch and my first ever musky about 36" rain, high winds, cold front resulted in a slow day. thanks
  24. Found an area on sunday near christian island near the mouth of a local creek where water temps ranged from 50-58 in an area approx 5 sq.miles. this area is no more than 20 ft deep, no fish whatsoever. hoping this weekend might do the trick, will be trying out some leadcore off the big boards.
  25. I fished similar waters this past weekend towards beckwith and christian island. i was looking for lakers out deep near the surface or on adjacent sand flats but no luck also tried in shallow flatlining and boards for bows but no luck again. i think the fish were around, just the intense heat was shutting things down. found a scum line off the southern tip of christian in 40 fow and found fish 20-25 ft down. dont know what they were, i was flatlinging most of the day didint have any equipment that could get my baits deep enough. any idea what those fish could have been? back at it this weekend after a few hours on the local rivers.
