  1. Bday/xmas are close together, parents are buying me a kicker motor. my boat is a lund alaskan, dry weight is 915 lbs and it has a 75hp, 2 guys, gas and a little gear, what size do you recommend? only want to use it for trolling when im out for salmon /trout.
  2. I have some questions about fishing this area especially at this time of year. eyes, pike, musky. i know a little but need some questions answered. ill be up there this weekend fishing hard but would like to plan in advance. pure catch and release. i cottage there all summer but never fish this late in the season. p.s. i have a boat thanks
  3. What were you using for bait? and about what time did you catch her? sometimes the fish bite when the water warms up a little. nice catch, hope to get into some tomorrow.
  4. Getting the motor ready for the cold weather and as i drained my gear oil i noticed it was milky in color, that means water! Is it common for this to happen or is there a leak and should I get it checked out by a mechanic? I havnt changed it all season. any thoughts?
  5. Would like to get out for some shore fishing for bows. any breakwalls, rivermouths around the GTA where i can toss some roe and get some hits? dont want to drive up to the mouth of the notty or around greybruce.
  6. Lets hear a report. might be fishing that area this weekend. thanks
  7. I have a new 75 hp 4 stroke yami, been reading how to winterize and understand what to do. but, id like to try some late season fishing, perhaps late november and december. im concerned about leaving it in subzero temps without being winterized. my indoor storage is not heated. how long can i leave my boat in the cold before it has to be winterized? please explain how this works. I hear people using there boats on the niagara in mid winter.
  8. Good Question ... id like to try this weekend off a pier but not sure what tactics? thanks
  9. Damn expensive for these little 4" rapala lookalikes. I know a lot of places dont carry them, the only place that i do know that has them is selling them for $19 each, ouch!! Anyone know where i can get a better deal? i hear they are "hot" baits for bows on GBay. thanks
  10. Never got a ticket launching in midland. good ramp next to bay port. Free launch in coldwater but river is really shallow and along big chute road there is a launch along the north river. very shallow water in matchedash bay. be careful. i made it to port severn using these ramps on saturday, got caught in the storm in the middle of matchedah bay. scary site. as shallow as 2 ft at times, definetly cannot run from a storm in that water. kris
  11. Lots of fish found in this deep water at this time of year and in summer, never fished it, heard lots of good things. curious will fish gather other bodies of water the same way? i fish gbay but have never trolled anything deeper than 150. do you think there may be fish out deep like in lake o? willing to try it out this wekend with this nice weather. thanks
  12. Cut off a piece of skein about quarter size and using spiderwire the stuff for tying roe sacs, wrap around the skeen and the hook. stays on pretty good, messy but works well. I usually cut skeen into portions that can be used for day use and freeze it, if i have extra i just throw it back into the freezer.
  13. Past few summers ive been doing a lot of trolling for pike, eyes and musky. i fish a lot of areas that are around 15-35 ft deep. often i will mark fish on bottom but i know for a fact my lures are only running 15ft down. i know the general rule of thumb, let out more line, angle the rod closer to the water. I troll crankbaits most of the time and larger body baits, without running a bigger lure, how can i get the baits to run deeper?? what techniques are used? thanks
  14. Looking to buy a mast. How do i determine which height to buy? i see different models and diff heights. ill be fishing out of a 16' lund. im assuming the taller the better? thanks
  15. thanks for the input fellas ... think ill go with the hand control. i dont like the balancing act with one foot elevated. i have big feet too so i remember was a hassle on my buddys minn kota. always used my hands to point in the direction i wanted to instead of my feet. maybe i have two left hands. i have no raised platform on the front so hand control might be a bit more level instead of having to bend down constantly. once boat comes and i fully rig it ill post some pics. its a lund alaskan ss by the way with a 75 hp yami 4 stroke krawler
  16. Just curious which people prefer to use. Bought a boat and looking to buy a trolling motor and there is a difference in price between the two. hand control is cheaper whic i like. ive used foot control and its nice but does hand control do the trick just as well? looking at 55 lb thrust model, dont care which manufacturer. any thoughts into preferences? thanks
  17. I respect your desire to keep these spots a secret but could u share tackle tips. i would imagine 4lbtest light action rod and panther martins tipped with worm. am i right?
  18. Is their any point in buying one of those small solar panelled chargers that charges at 2 amps and hook it up to your main battery even though its being charged by the boats motor? what id like to do is hook up all electronics to one battery. I do alot of trolling so id imagine the battery will be charged while trolling but during those times when not trolling. is there any point to this or should i just rely on the motors charge? thanks
  19. Past 2 years ive been going camping up north, mid summer. We've gone around the Chapleau area Missinaibi Prov Park and Wakami Prov Park. Both places offer fantastic fishing, great scenery and great camping. This year we want to go again but want to try a new place. Driving 10 hours north of barrie is ok for us. looking for great fishing, pike walleye, etc. Can anyone suggest a prov park with a lake and why you suggest that place? we know we have to book soon thanks
  20. I was considering the classic but went with the Alaskan SS. the classic seems to have less room inside due to the casting deck and rear storage space and console. hull is stronger on the alaskan and alaskan is a little cheaper. i went with a yamaha 75hp. either or both boats are great!!
  21. Never fished for them before but would like to. I have a location in mind where during the summer months lakers are plentiful but deep just wondering where they would be after ice out. The area im talking is a drop-off rom 10-20 ft down to 60-100, sandy bottom and some rocky areas too. Where will these fish be located ? along the drop, in the shallows or down deep. rainbows should be around too as this drop is near the shoreline. im thinking boars, flatline or if the fish are deep downriggin, thoughts? thanks kriawler
  22. Just needed to share my news with somebody. its been a dream of mine for a couple of years and finally coming true. the boat is a 1600 Alaskan SS with a 75hp yamaha 4 stroke!!! boat being delivered in early june. called every marina in ontario and found a price $3 g's less than everyone else. really happy. Been asking a lot of boat related questions on the board recently and would like to thank everyone for there thoughts and opinions. a lot of knowledgeable folks on here and i value your opinions. now saving for some dipsy equipment for lake o, already have the riggers, additional transducers for fish finder and im all set. camping with a lund on northern lakes should be awesome too ... oh and need a bow mounted trolling motor too ... that will be my next question coming up. thanks again krawler
  23. 20" length will do!! thanks for the info. now all i have to do is wait 2 months for the boat to arrive. countdown begins. krawler
  24. 99 % sold on a lund. as i was looking into the deal i asked the dealer about the length of the shaft and he said it was 20". I always thought to go with the longer shaft length. The motor is a yamaha 75 hp comes in both 25" and 20" shaft. Is 20" sufficient?? How do i know which length to choose? thanks
  25. Amazing trout fishing in the area. simple downrigging or even flatlining with a clip weight will do the trick with small baits. world record rainbow was caught there last year, tipped the sclaes at 40 lbs. cant comment about the lodge itself but im sure the area can hold its own when it comes to fishing!!
