  1. Good year rigging for salmon and bows on Georgian Bay. Caught fish on a regular basis. Heard of a lot of skunk reports. Manged about 25 outings and got skunked 4 times, not bad i think for gbay standards.
  2. A friend of mine keeps his rods hangine off the roof in his truck. He had straps attached to the inside roof in his truck and the rods would lay on the straps. he said you can buy them at Bass Pro. Looked well organised!
  3. Quantum Coldwater, 5 years, same rod, no problems, tons of fish!
  4. If there is nothing in the river then id like to fish the mouth, on the bay, flatlining. Ive done well this time of year back to my original question is it safe to take a boat upstream from the launch?
  5. Thats where i have launched from before but have only fished from there to the mouth. Is it safe to take the boat further upstream?
  6. I have a 16' aluminum. I would like to troll the lower notty and the rivermouth for bows. Also maybe try anchoring and drifting roe. Can someone tell me how far up the notty i can troll before it gets to shallow or hazardous? I have trolled the lower section below the first bridge and the mouth. It doesnt get much deeper than 6' give or take. Ill be using my electric for trolling. thanks
  7. Id like my reel to spin like it used to when i first bought it. What products do you recommend for cleaning, what do i do? Any tips? ANy place in the GTA that cleans/fixes them? I have a raven vectra SST. Also interested in buying another, not new but used. Anyone have one for sale? Thanks
  8. Most of time i reel my line in, i keep the float in the water to add extra tension but it always seems as though the line is still loose on the reel. Is this because of the side cast or the way i spool my line on the reel?
  9. The problem with the tangles is after a few drifts the line is loose on the reel. The line doesnt come off smoothly and often comes out in a tangle. Could be im side casting. Im running dackron for backing. Any reason why people suggest running 20 lb braid?
  10. Im always getting tangles when put new line on my pin, i think im putting too much on my reel, how do i know how much to put on? Also, ive always ran Siglon F 8lb wth fluoro leader. Talked to some guys who recommend siglon, followed by 20lb braid (50 yrds), then 10lb mono for your float (2yrds) and fluoro as your leader. blood knot to connect siglon and braid and swivels for remaining set up. What would the advantage of such a set up be? ANyone run something similar or different? Im questioning my current set up due to tangles and well, i havnt caught a fish this season, lol. thanks
  11. I just got wind of a salmon tournament happening next weekend on a river feeding into one of our great lakes. Its put together by a local trailer park. These guys obviously know the state of the salmon fishery and how fragile salmon numbers have been in recent years. Im disappointed in the fact that these guys would put together a derby. clearly these people dont care!! I figure there will be about 50 anglers give or take, each will likely catch a fish if not more and all fish will be kept, what a slaughter it will be. Im sure none of the money raised will be going to any worthy cause. Im contacting the MNR and OPP, im not sure they know of the event. I hope they make an appearance, ill be there but am not entering the derby, ill be the guy cussing and questioning the organizers. just wanted to rant and express my dissapointment. krawler
  12. Im with bdox. i drive a zr2 blazer, but its done up with offroad lights on the roof, roof basket, brushgaurd, mudders. always recognize fellow zr2's. putting on a sticker on the back windshield that will say... "Official JEEP Rescue Vehicle" I go offroading and cant get stuck, unlike some jeep guys i know, especially those YJ's!
  13. You will have to travel to waubashene to rent a boat. i think a marina called Pier 69 rents out boats. not sure about canoe rentals. no fish in front of awenda at this time of year, water is still frigid, maybe a bow or tow but id say its a waste of time. you might try saint marie among the hurons for panfish and carp, also penetang and midland bays from the town docks.
  14. Buying my first reel, when would i use a flat vs a round? Would like to buy a multipurpose reel. I mainly cast and retrieve spoons, stickbaits or spinners for pike or bass. thanks
  15. You have inspired me to get out on simcoe for some action! Can you explain the basics as to how your catching so many fish.
  16. I have a cottage on GBay. its near open water not ideal habitats for carp but at this time of year there are continuous schools of carp just under the surface in 20 fow, you can see them because of the waves they make on a calm day. Some of these schools have upwards of 100 carp, quite the site to see. I see them every year at this time, never try and catch them. they are always just cruising never stay in one spot.
  17. lots of carp and gar, very weedy. lots of panfish and a few pike.
  18. This year will be the first time im missing opener on GBAY rivers. Ill be in st catherines competing in a salmon derby. That being said i would love to hit a river or pier in the area for the evening bite. Any rivers in close proximity that gets a run of fish that i might be able to hook into? I strictly catch and relase. No specific locations just names of rivers/creeks unless you want to pm me with more info. Just rivers or creeks. i love smaller creeks but will take anything. thanks
  19. I fish the area on weekends when i can. Have not been out this year, i fish on the east side of nottawasaga bay, west winds always push the ice on our shoreline. shore angling has been slow, i think in a boat would be more productive.
  20. Get out a map or gps look for traditional areas such as humps, drop offs, shoals, etc. typically these areas will hold the walleye all year. Lots of structure out there, hard to find the fish thats for sure. did better this winter than i do during softwater season. Smaller fish like the weeds as the water warms up. The bigger fish i hear are found suspended in deeper water, troll with riggers to find them but in may i would fish structure, try different depths, look for some moving water or bays adjacent to moving water. watch the slot size, mnr is always around the area.
  21. Anyone know where i can get someone to look at my motor in the midland area? i know of jacknjills but have heard of them charging high service charges for minor work, im looking for an honest service tech. basically, i may have a leak in my lower unit, every time i change the lower unit oil, its milky that means water is mixing with oil. im always changing the washer when i change the oil. friend suggested i get a pressure check to see if there are any leakes. so can anyone help me out?
  22. I've heard of this location where people can fish from shore for bows. Would like to go this week, I have the week off. How do i get there? What type of set-up or rig should i be using? If anyone wants to come along, pitch in for gas, tues-thurs any day, will be driving from toronto. Maybe not go as far, try port dalhousie if its good this time of year? Maybe even try a charter, anyone know of one on the niagara? Thanks
  23. Anyone have any good/bad experiences with this hut operator on simcoe? does he fish in a good area? anyone catching anything where he is? he says he's set up in 60 fow, give or take. thanks
  24. Would like to catch some eyes this winter. What depths do they frequent? What kind of structure should i focus my fishing around?
  25. Bought a sled and would like to fish severn sound this year (midland, penetang, HH, waub, hoggs and sturgeon bay, etc). I know where the pike, perch, herring and lakers are but i know nothing about finding eyes in winter. If anyone knows this area, they know that there is a lot of structure, varying depths and weeds. Im not asking for specific locations rather what depths do walleye frequent in the winter, what kind of bottom, rock or weed, drop-offs, flats, points. Ill be using a variety of baits but for sure jig with minnow and the other swedish pimple or other small flashy spoons. any help would be great.
