  1. I have a few old orange flares i plan to stick in the rock holes, hopefully he comes out. other than that im buying a lot of salt and plan on randomly walking through the brush at night hoping to spot him. A friend has a crossbow, that should do it!
  2. We have a porcupine living on our property, its eating all the bark on our pine and spruce trees, these trees will die in the spring. we planted them 20+ years ago, sad to see them go. I know where he lives, huge pile of rocks that has too many ways of getting in and out. he only comes out at night but have not seen him yet. i have a Have-a-Heart trap and ive tried every type of fruit to entice him in but no luck. each week i go up more trees are damagaed. Any suggestions to get rid of him or deter him from climbing/eating the bark. we have over 500 trees, cant put up barriers on each tree. we cant plug the holes in the rocks. Anyone have a solution?? I posted a message about beavers last year, best solution was to scare the crap out of it, and spray obnoxious odours everywhere. thanks
  3. Found a dead deer at the old mill a few weeks back, next day all that was left were bones, coyotes tore it apart overnight. not sure how it died, called animal services they came and took away the remaining pieces.
  4. Want to buy as a gift for my pops for xmas. Found a few low prices online. I know of radioworld in toronto they are selling it for $330 plus tx. Anyone know where to get a good deal on this unit. Also perhaps black friday in the states would offer up a good deal online? Where to shop? thanks
  5. Bought 2 musky reels without line counters, i now see the benefit of having a line counter reel. Any gimmicks on the market i can attach to my reel to count the line going out. thanks
  6. Outlet Bait and tackle, good deals but shipping is high, imo.
  7. I know the area quite well, less than 5 min from my cottage. A lot of cottagers dont have boats in front of there cottage. I trolled through the area where the accident occurred on the weekend, water temps were 58 F. Could have been prevented, very unfortunate!
  8. I cant find sizes 1, 2, or 3. I have plenty of sizes 4 and 5 for salmon but would like smaller sizes for other species of fish and for trolling for bows. Anyone know of a shop in the GTA that has those sizes? OR if you have any you dont want and are willing to sell, please let me know. The only site i found online that sells them is the Lyman site itself, but the shipping costs are really high. any help would be great thanx!
  9. Thanks for all the replies/possible solutions about a month ago. Just to recap the beaver was living under my dock but just made a nest to sit on like a birds nest not like a big beaver dam. Years past MNR told me to shoot them if you cant find a reasonable way of removing them from your property. Dont own a gun and dont know anyone who does. Im only up on weekends and i began seeing the damage to my trees that i planted when i was a kid, made me furious!! I tried coating the nest with tar, the beaver liked it. tried putting rocks on nest and entrance, beaver found a way in. I spread coyote and human urine all over the place to scare it away, didnt work. ALso tried to find foul odours, like cayenne pepper, gas, etc. Nothing seemed to work and since i was only up on weekends i could only imagine how much damage he was doing during the week. Whenever i saw it i threw rocks at it but it always came back. Solution: one day i crept on to the dock, without the beaver noticing. I had placed a few large rocks on the edge of the dock a few days before. I stood above the entrance to the dock made some noise and dropped the rocks on the beaver, not enough to kill or injure it (at least i dont think so). The thing took off like a bullet and i havnt seen it since. Solution was quite simple. lol once again thanks for everyones input. krawler
  10. Need a quick fix, i have a beaver living under the dock at the cottage. Its eating trees nearby and wreaking havoc on the landscape. Basically need a quick fix to deter it from coming back. Cannot board up the opening of the dock. Is there a smell beavers dont like that i can spray on its bedding area that will prevent it from coming back? Any help would be great. I see one in the area every 3 years, usually they leave after throwing a few rocks and scaring it but this one seems to like my dock and the trees, any help would be greatlyappreciated. krawler
  11. I fish this way a lot. If the winds are calm we wont even bother going out. We like a good breeze, gets the baits moving a little, attracts the fish. I also have switched to using triangular style weights. They hold better in the current and in the waves, 1oz for light to medium winds and 2 oz for strong winds. Sometimes the best fishing is when winds are 50km/h+!!!! We also use roe, we spray our roe with crayfish scent, seems to do the trick, far more hook ups. If roe is not producing we use worms but we blow them up a little so they remain bouyant. Set your drag loose, sometimes the fish hit hard. DOnt forget to tighten your drag when you set the hook. If your line goes slack but your rod tip isnt moving much, you have a fish, reel in the slack and yank!!!! k
  12. Thanks for all the help. Ill be sure to check out all those things. Looking for a new local mechanic to help me out and not charge an arm and a leg. Looks like ive been doing all the right things but ill be sure to be more thorough before the season starts.
  13. Ive done the spark plugs annually as well. I'll look into the valve train thing. anything else?
  14. I have a 2007 75 hp yamaha 4 stroke. I lost the Owners Manual. Not sure how many hours i have on this motor but i know its a lot!! I troll a lot and run around the lake often to get to my spots. Wondering what kind of maintenance i should do after ive used it for so many years and have x amount of hours? Can i do this myself or should it be serviced by a dealer? I change the oil 1-2 times/yr and change the lower unit oil just as much. thanks
  15. I read a lot of boards when im bored and do a lot of search's too. Im not much of a poster, more of a reader but some things peak my curiosity and i cant resist so i have to ask. Like i said very few if not any posts about the area on any board, does anyone fish it in the winter?
  16. Huge body of water, accessible by sled and ATV, many towns nearby, lots of ice, multiple species of fish but never do i see any reports, questions, comments, etc about the area, what gives??? I try and get out every weekend for a mix of eyes, lakers, whities, pike, perch and herring. Lately luck has not been on my side. A few weeks back we were catching herring but since then things have slowed down. Mind you i only fish one day if that per week up there, too many hobbies, gf and full time job dont help in my quest to fish the area. All summer guys fish the area but come winter its almost dead unless you fish midland or waubashene, outside of that its barren. Any reason why its so dead?
  17. Can you use gift cards at the sale?
  18. Alaska ... salmon Lake Missinnaibi ... pike and walleye Georgian Bay ... Salmon/Musky
  19. Ive checked out the manual link but that manual is for the Quickflips 2 and 3 not for the Express. The express comes with two triangular chairs and a sled, not sure if the hut is attached to the sled like the quickflips.
  20. I can get a great deal on the following hut but ive looked everywhere online for any information relating to its durability, material quality, easy to set up for one person, etc, cannot find anything. Anyone have experience with this specific hut? Would like to hear your opinions. Also not sure how it folds, does it fold like the Quickflips into the sled? http://www.geteskimo.com/foundations/store...params=69802*55 Thanks
  21. ive checked all local stores online with no luck, will try marksworkwarehouse and bps but they didnt have them on the site thanks for the help!!!

  23. Kinda fishing related. I need to find a few of these as xmas gifts but need one for myself, keeps me extra warm on the ice. What stores sell them? I cant seem to find any for sale. Found one made by HH but dont like the material, looking for that waffle look. any ideas? thanks
  24. Thanks for the link, i read the thread when it was posted. Still looking for more thoughts on the subject. I know im not looking for a flasher. I've had a portable for years and rigged the transducer myself but the problem was making sure it reads vertically through the water column.
  25. Looking to buy a fishfinder for ice fishing. Im looking at either the Humminbird 343c or Lowrance x67c. They look identical, price is nearly the same. Also considering 535 dosnt come in color but if its dependable then i would go for it. Any opinions about dependability, easy to use, etc. Which one do you have or which would you buy? Hopefully there will be some sales over the xmas break. Thanks
