  1. If a blank DVD costs 20 cents (I recently bought 100 for $20) and a blank VHS tape costs $2.50; why does a movie on DVD cost more than a movie on VHS?
  2. Why is evaporated milk still a liquid? Why does Superman let bullets bounce off is chest but duck when the "bad guy" throughs the empty gun at him?
  3. I use a deep cycle battery as my cranking battery; and I don't have any problem keeping it charged with a 55hp Suzuki. I also run two fishfinders, bilge, lights, and livewell off of this battery. A deep cycle may not make a very good cranking battery for a larger motor. I run a seperate battery for my bow mount, it is only a twelve volt. You do not need an on board charger. An external charger will work too, an on board charger is just a little more convenient. You should make a habit of recharging yuor batteries as soon as possible after using them.
  4. Actually no, they wouldn't show that as a 1 million dollare loss. With proper accounting, the 6 million dollar investment will be amortized over the life of the asset while the 5 million dollars in sales will be counted as revenue in the year. Like all publically treaded companies, North American auto makers must have their financial results independandly audited every single year. Those independantly audited financial results show that Ford and GM are in big trouble. You have a very good point. There often is a very large disconnect between upper management's performance and their compensation. This is also a contributing factor to the problems facing North American auto makers.
  5. My understanding was that the changes to the regulations for the 2007 season were not yet approved. Is the change in the bass opener part of the "pending changes"; or was that seperate change?
  6. Actually a reciept for minnows was a good idea even before the VHS problem. You are not allowed to possess more than 40 self caught minnows. If you have more than 40 minnows, then yuo better have a reciept regardless of where they came from. It's even more important to have a reciept to prove that you purchased the minnows in the right location. Not the wrong location as suggested earlier ... the is a reason for the rules.
  7. I am left handed; I cast with two hands and reel with my right. I count my cast as left handed because my left hand holds rod where a one handed caster would hold it. I golf right because my dad taught me to golf and insisted that that was the proper way to golf ... even though swinging left handed felt more natural. I shoot left in hockey but prefer to play right wing. All this talk reminds my of a line from Duddy Kravits ... Try your left hand, it will feel like it's somebody else.
  8. I live in the Scarborough/Rouge area; less than a mile from the Pickering border. I have never lived down town so I cannot really compare the area to the core; but most of the people in my neighborhood are quite freindly. I don't have any trouble getting someone to watch the house or water the plants while we are away.
  9. Before pacific salmon were introduced to Lake Ontario there wasn't much of a fishery at all. I would rather have a fishery based on introduced species than no fishery at all. Native species can can disease too.
  10. We were not allowed to bring Coho into the Ringwood hatchery this year because of fears that they had VHS. A sample of Coho from this year's run were sent for testing. If they are free of VHS we may be able to raise them next year. Next fall will be the final run for Coho if no further stocking takes place - unless they can form a self sustaining population. I don't believe that VHS actually harms trout or salmon. But they can transmit it other species with are more vulnerable. I think walleye are one of the species that can experience die offs from VHS. I thought it was because there were huge quantities of salted minnows beging sold; and that banning the sale of salted minnows would reduce the harvest to more manageable numbers.
  11. If you do a lot of travelling your Rogers phone will work in almost any country. Your Bell phone will have very limited use outside of Canada. I am not sure about Telus or Fido.
  12. Actually, I believe that it is illegal to sell dead minnows... at least the salted ones anyways. I found the following statement from the article interesting: "In the infected zone, south of Highways 401 and 402 across Ontario, live bait fish will not be allowed to be commercially harvested or transported north of the two highways." Does this mean that it would be legal for an individual to harvest minnows south of the 401? It would make more sense to completely ban the harvest minnows south of the 401 not just the commercial harvest. Also, is it only commercial operators that cannot transport minnows north of the 401; or individuals as well? I.e. would I be able to purchase minnows from Rerries and take them to Scugog or Simcoe? The minnows would have had to come from north of the 401 anyway since there is not harvest south of the 401.
  13. I know that general motors had some quality probelms in the eighties and nineties; however, I did read some quality reviews recently that put their quality right up there with Honda & Toyota. Unfortunately, reputation is based on "old information". Many people will continue to shy away from the current GM lineup based on their experiences with vehicles made in the eighties and nineties. It take a few years of high quality production before their reputation will improve.
  14. OFAH ... ... and Metro East Anlers as well.
  15. I have never owned one. But the owner of Bennett Marine told me that they were a good quality boat; and he didn't carry them. It is not very often that a marina will admit that a brand that they don't carry is a good boat.
  16. Pinpoint motors, which have been around for awhile, are available with the feature you describe. They can also troll a specific distance from shore. I haven't used one myself but I did speak to a sales rep at one of the shows. He did admit you do need the right bottom contours for their system to work effectively. A slope that is too flat or too steep will confuse the motor. Your concerns are definitely valid.
  17. At least they do have a plan to eventually cut emissions. The Liberals made a big deal out of signing Kyoto, but they never actually implemented any plans to ever reduce emissions. The Kyoto accord will not lead to a reduction in emissions, (the two most populous contries in the world are allowed to polute as much as they want under the agreement) it would only lead to Canada paying large sums of money to other contries for not meeting the targets. Everybody dumps on Bush for not signing Kyoto; but the US's emissions only increased by 16% while Canada's increased by 25%. And the per capita emission from the US were already lower than Canada's to begin with. So much for the Liberals committment to the environment.
  18. I am not sure about the others; but that one is not true. That is not how "golf" was spelled back then. Plus, I think the Scotts were still speaking gaelic at that time.
  19. I am pretty sure that the the regs specify that you must be fishing through the ice to use the second line.
  20. The paper wasps built a nest about seven feet of the ground above my garage. Should I be expecting six feet of snow in Scarborough?
  21. Is that was Rogers told you? The cell phone companies are currently facing a class action law suite over the system access fee. It has been portrayed as a tax by the cell phone companies; but it is merely an extra charge entirely controlled by the cell phone companies.
  22. More specifically, I believe that the province can change a season; but creating a closed season requires federal approval.
  23. Do regularly look at the Farmers Almanac predictions and compare them to what actually happens? I haven't myself. However, I do recall reading an article stating that their predictions are rarely accurate. If I recall correctly, the article said that they were accurate 11 times in the last 50 years. I think that there is a romantic notion that people close to the land, such as farmers, can observe how many nuts a squirrel gathers and more accurately predict the weather than modern science. I don't think that there is actually any truth to it.
  24. I still have that snap set lure listed in the contest section I caught quite a few fish with it this past summer. Does anybody know if they are still made. I don't think that I ever saw one in a store.
  25. I saw one a few years ago in the Malvern area of Scarborough. I have also seen a quite a few deer in the Port Union and 401 are lately.
