  1. Thanks for all the replies but something tells me everybody is referring to the Avery beach launch on the east side of 11. I am referring to the west side of 11 on the north shore of Vernon. Apparently there is a launch, and this is an assumption, at the end of Hutcheson Beach road. Is anybody familiar with this one? Again, thanks for all comments so far. Rick
  2. Does anybody have any experience with the alleged Hutcheson Beach boat launch in Hunstville (Lake Vernon)? I might be looking to launch there in the coming weeks and was curious of the condition of the launch. Apparently there is one there but I can't seem to find on google satellite. Thanks in advance. Rick
  3. In cold temps the split grip isn't a problem but I have to agree with the rib pain in warmer weather when wearing only one layer. I have the split grip sling blade and the truth is I much prefer my full grip Loomis. Marketing tells me St Croix is the way to go - experience with both tells me otherwise. If you are going to spend the money make sure you take the Pepsi challenge, you might be surprised.
  4. I will 2nd Pine Vista. We stayed there a number of years in a row. Cottages are clean, nice sand beach, nice pool, kids programs, frog catching, canoeing, great fishing with plenty of panfish for kids and bass walleye and musky for Dad. We even rented one of their pontoon boats and toured the lake for the day. It's a beautiful lake. If you are a golfer, as a guest you are able to play Wildfire which is expensive but a spectacular course...and you can get there by boat. Full disclosure: no affiliation, haven't been since '07.

  6. What are the rules on hijacking a thread?
  7. Heard there was a giant mall going in at Simcoe and Winchester, north Oshawa...comparable to Vaughan Mills. What are the odds Cabelas comes east for this spot? With the 407 extension and the Kawarthas, it makes sense. Can anybody share some insight?
  8. from my iPhone fishing solo...great thread
  9. I really like the leeches. Finally bought one of these...the bottle and no more mess. http://www.planomold...a-bait-locker™/
  10. Looks like fun to me but as much fun as I think 60mph is, it is not that fast for a bass boat especially as you get passed by a SeaDoo. When you see a bb go past you doing 70+ or even touching 80, that's fast. I once owned a boat that could break 80mph (<16' Larson w/150 merc; 28 chopper) and re-propped it for skiing instead simply b/c it was insane; too light and it was like flying a plane. Sixty is still pretty manageable in my opinion. Btw, looking at your hole shot, are you trimmed fully down at the start?
  11. All good choices but without criticizing other stores, the one I cited has something at 40% off any other place I have checked. It's hard to pass that up when I was planning on buying 2.
  12. Does anyone have any experience with www.overstockbait.com?? If so, what were delivery times like to Canada and was there any brokerage or duty charges?
  13. care to share...pm is fine. Thx
  14. Check your 'upload' vs 'download'. I'm not well versed in the tech field but the same thing happened to a colleague and his cable provider reversed the charges when they realized what had happened. Something about a movie he downloaded from Netflix was being 'uploaded' to others repeatedly. Good luck.
  15. Interesting timing. My son and I drove by this week and noticed the water was down about 10 feet from it's usual level and there seemed to be some sort of a makeshift dam built about half way down. We have been meaning to walk down to have a closer look but just haven't got around to it yet. It was great to be able to drive a couple of blocks with my son and a friend or two and watch them catch bass after bass. We too have had our fair share of double headers over the past years and we too will miss it.
  16. I will be down at Cherry Beach in Toronto on the weekend and wondered if it would be worth packing a rod? Any thoughts/comments? Thanks Rick
  17. Call Stu at Stu's Marine in Oakville on Speers Rd. just w of third line south side in behind main buildings. Solid guy, trustworthy and has been in business forever. 905-469-8515 Took an '05 225 Optimax to him a few years back. He had done all types of small stuff for me until one day I brought him my dead opti. As soon as he diagnosed it, told me to take to authorized dealer as was still under warranty (bot in U.S.). Didn't charge me...even directed me away from one marina advising against their service despite being an authorized dealer.
  18. How old are your kids? After trashing a few 'Spiderman' rods I decided to set my kids up in a decent spincast reel on an ice fishing rod. Handled the fish better and was 1000 times more durable. If they are old enough to handle a spinning outfit, I put them on a 1000 size reel mounted on a BPS 5' medium action rod. It is still fun to catch panfish and can handle a decent fish. My son was 7 and landed a 4lb Smallie all on his own - you should heard the screams, it was awesome. Bottom line, I bought the medium action because the hook is basically set due to the stiffness of the rod. The BPS rods (graphite series) have been fine but I suspect an ugly stick would also be good.
  19. Like him or not, he has done very well for himself earning an incredible living at something he loves, not bad for somebody who dropped out of high school. Agree with him or not, he tells it like it is and knows hockey better than most. The NHL should listen to him once in a while. No touch icing should have been gone years ago, something Don has been trying to get changed for an eternity. He is also an advocate for changing the equipment so it doesn't look and feel like armor. He is a great ambassador to the kids and watches a ton of minor hockey...he simply loves the game. Incidentally, most goalies will stop 99 shots out of a hundred if they can see it and it's not tipped. As a defenseman, knowing there is nobody else near, the best move is to let the goalie do his job. The many shots that are deflected into the corner were going to be stopped anyway. Don is ultra patriotic which is refreshing in a land so passive. We should all be so grateful for our freedom. By the way, he was coach of the year in the NHL as well as the AHL. Just because you don't like him, doesn't mean he doesn't know what he is talking about. Regarding Don's rant, good for him - Burke is a moron. If you don't think hockey is filled with politics you clearly have not experienced minor hockey from a parent's perspective. Who has been Burke's coaches? His buddies, that's who. He has basically set up his buddies in one sweet deal after another. Maybe Don didn't get Ron Wilson fired but hopefully he can get Burke fired. In case you still haven't figured it out, I like him!
  20. I hope you're a fan of Tin Cup because it worked for Roy McAvoy... Put your change in your left pocket. Go on, do it. Now, tie your left shoe in a double knot.- Tie my left shoe?- Right now, do it! Turn the hat backwards. Turn your hat around. Do it, Roy! Take this tee...and stick it...behind your left ear.- I look like a fool! What do you think you look like shooting chili peppers up Janzen's ass? It sounds like you have the shanks...stop thinking about it and just cast ;-) BTW, great intervention everybody. Thought Dave was looking for others to share their problems as opposed to sharing only his...funny stuff for everybody but Dave.
  21. Thanks guys. I need another toy like I need a hole in the head but this thing looks like a blast. Justwannafish, did you ever have any luck in Hamilton harbour? Has anybody ever tried it downtown Toronto or Around the Island?
  22. Okay, I am reviving this thread since I just came back from the fishing show and spent quite a while ogling this thing. After test driving the mirage drive system on vacation last week I am sold on its benefits. My biggest question is can you get that thing on top of your car by yourself?
  23. I agree with Stonefish. Being able to handle all the different products you have an interest in is worth the price of admission. Last year I had a g loomis pro put an NRX through its paces for me. Although I could 't swallow the cost at the time, I ended up buying one from JB's later in the year. Listening to a speaker or two is always beneficial also and although I'm not in the market for a boat, it's great to check out the new features. The show might not be what it used to be but it sure beats the winter blues, if only for a few hours.
  24. I am coming up on my one year anniversary with my '08 Yukon Denali. Because of the mileage I wouldn't recommend it but otherwise the truck is awesome. It's all wheel with the 6.2liter engine so mileage could be better...albeit it's a lot of fun when you air it out. The SLT's come with the smaller 8 and I don't think they are full time all wheel drive so they would be better in the mileage dept. Space, towing, comfort and features, the truck just can't be beat. Before you rule one out, take it for a drive. You will never look back. Good luck Rick
  25. I have had a Saros for about 3 summers now and love it. Last winter I picked up a deal on a Ci4 and, yes, it is also a great reel but I still enjoy using my Saros. Great bang for the buck in my opinion. Seems like lots of opinions on many reels but the Saros...you can't go wrong with this one if you ask me. Good luck Rick
