where I fish they are super easy to catch. deadsticked minnow on a jig. fish at night. ive only caught them on the ice though, and they can piss you right off. they like to barrel roll all around your line. this gets worse when sometimes you cant even feel them take the bait

so your opening the bail to let them run? dont most reels have a freespool mode(mine do) ive never used it and actually never even thought of using it I wonder if one method would be better then the other??? ive lost sturgeon where now that I think about it this coulda possibly helped me land some more fish ....without losing 200 yards of line

so cold smoking doesnt actually cook the food? I have never actually heard of cold smoking until this thread.

ive had a few bbqs on the ice. its the best food ever after hours out on the ice. only do it at drive to spots though. I also want a 50"pike but I have a feeling ill be chasing that forever

lol. I wish. soon enough though. we only have like 2" of snow. I took a small ride last night but need more white stuff. took a cruz down the river and it looks like Im good to try this pinewood river. word is its packed with walleye but I guess well see. My new neighbour loves pike fishing and he says its insane for big pike at ice out right at the mouth, which is like 2 minute ride from our place. lets hope thats true! Im pretty banged up from the move so Im hoping it snows all week while I recover. going up the stairs with a stand up freezer and I slipped. not good. got crushed pretty good. pinned back first on the stairs, smacked my shoulder pretty good and hit my cheekbone pretty hard but no break thankfully. but once the back feels better yeah Ill hit some jumps at 50 lol

nope. close once with a 6ft sturgeon on 8lb mono but i landed it. had to get in the water though and the fight was about an hour. first and last cast of the day. my whole body was sore the following day lol
