  1. Every automobile policy issued in Ontario is exactly the same. It is on a standard form https://www.fsco.gov.on.ca/en/auto/forms/Documents/OAP-1-Application-and-Endorsement-Forms/1215E.2.pdf Looks to me like it would be covered if you purchase the optional coverage under section 7 (sinking). You can find out if you have that by looking at your declaration page.
  2. He was just featured on an episode of "the next bite" filming a Muskie show. I was incredulous that someone would put him on tv a year after these convictions.
  3. That guy was caught on my all time favorite splake bait - a jig and a minnow. When things get slow for me on a I just yo-yo my bait 6 inches off the bottom. The lake that we were fishing that day is shaped like a "pot". It drops off very quickly from shore around the entire circumference of the lake. That fish was taken in about 30 feet of water (which is unusually deep for me). I thought for sure I had foul hooked a fish when I first got him on .... The teeth on him were pretty gnarly and when I asked my buddy to help me get him through the hold the answer was "I am not sticking my hand in there".
  4. Not my biggest through the ice ever but this Splake in the 30 inch range came from a lake that is only about a quarter mile long.
  5. I took a G-Loomis Rod in to a local shop in January. I am still waiting for a replacement as of today. According to the shop the rod has now been backordered for 9 months.
  6. I have fished this lake since the early 90s quite frequently. It is a very clear water lake which is primarily lake trout, walleye and bass. It can be very tough to fish from time to time especially for walleye. When you are headed up there is a good chance that you will get into some lake trout. Often we catch them trolling a shallow in the spring as well as drifting with jigging spoons. If you are looking for numbers of trout (and not size) there are smaller adjacent lakes to portage to that hold trout. There are some very large walleye, bass and trout in the lake.
  7. I have not fished Esser but have fished up river in Ogoki Lake and Kaydon Lake on a number of occasions. The fishing in the areas I have been was excellent. I have no doubt that there are 10 pound walleye in they river. We never caught any that size but there were always lots of fish in the 18 to 22 inch size. The Ogoki River has traditionally been know for its pike fishing and there are some real monsters out there. I would be careful with the water levels on that river. Apperantly they can get really high and ruin a trip.
  8. I have been out with several different outfitters mainly on corporate trips with clients. The best I have found for a trip with lots of fish and professional service is Ryan Hare with "we pound em fishing". I would recommend him very highly.
  9. I have spent a lot of time in the Yukon 15 (15 inch transom) as a good friend of mine has one. He and I fished out of it 10 days straight a couple of years ago without complaint. It has a lot of positives in my view - it is light and pretty stable. 15 horsepower moves it along quickly. Perfect boat for a lot of those smaller lakes up your way. Easy to get into tight spaces. From a negative perspective the gauge of aluminum is pretty light. It was trailered a few times without a transom saver (and a motor on it). That resulted in the transom having to be replaced. If I were to buy one I might consider getting one a bit heavier with thicker aluminum.
  10. I purchased an MDX recently off of ebay for 285 new. Best deal I could get by far. It you are interested you might be best to check there first. Very nice reel - quite light. I have not been able to use it yet though so I can't give you a review. It feels similar to a quantum smoke which is another reel that I really like.
  11. I was taken to Cayo Romano and we had to pass through a locked gate. I dont know if I could get there without the guide to be honest. Once you get past the gate it is about 15 kms to the flats. He told me there are very few bonefish near the resorts on Cayo Coco or Cayo Guillermo. As long as you are a good caster and know how to double haul 8 wt or even a 7 would be fine I am sure. I am not the worlds best fly caster which is why I took a bit heavier rod.
  12. I was in Cuba two weeks ago. We stayed in Cayo Coco. Flats are about 40 minutes by cab away. I contacted a guide through the resort "Abel" who was excellent and inexpensive. There were many bonefish including some real bruisers. I was using a 9wt to help with the wind. Do yourself a favor learn how to double haul well and you will save some frustration. Flies are pretty simple stick to gottchas and crazy charlies and you should be fine. 12lb test leaders.
  13. They are basically identical all five are in good condition. 14 foot Naden boats with 9.9 Mercury motors. Neither of the outfitters have any swivel seats in the boats.

  15. Solopadler has it right. The portage is about 100 yards and is in good shape. It did get a bit tiring near the end of the week lugging the gas in over the portage mind you.
  16. I fished Esnagami this summer. The fishing was excellent for sure. It is likely a bit better then the other lakes that I fished in the area. We went in August and caught hundreds of Walleye. Some nice sized fish as well up for about 28 inches or so. The fishing was not always on fire mind you we had to work for the Walleye (it was very hot that week). We fished on the east side of the lake the majority of the time. Saw maybe 3 boats the entire week. You do not need to fly into the lake. There is a portage after you travel through Stinger Lake. There is a cabin on Stinger Lake run by O'Sullivan Outfitters. It is very rustic and I figured only gets used a few times a season. But for $600 bucks a week, with all the gas you can burn it is a pretty good deal. Wouldn't want to have more then 4 guys in it mind you. If camping was an option another outfitter has boats on Stinger and on Esnagami - Pennocks in Nakina.
  17. I have fished the lake quite a bit. I wouldnt consider it to be a fantastic fishing lake but its not bad. The lake itself is a very clear water deep lake. Lots of rock structure - basically no weeds at all in the entire lake. It has Pike, Walleye, Bass and Lake Trout. The Walleye are typically caught on live bait rigs on the shoals. They can be very tricky to catch during the day. Best bet are at at dawn and dusk. Lake Trout fishing can be steady. Downriggers and/or Leadcore Line are the ticket this time of the year. Prototypical Lake Trout baits work well.
  18. I had an okay experience with G2 this winter. I will say it is not exactally what I expected and It really depends what you want. I could see how some people would not like the guided trip I had. I read the post on the Simcoe board and this is what I would comment on: 1. We had one ATV for 5 guys - we did have to walk out onto the ice - no big deal. 2. We did not get a lot of training from the guide. He showed us the basics. Not too hard reading a flasher. That was fine as we had enough experience on the ice. 3. We moved once at mid-day. I dont know if thats part of the technique or what. 4. The guide fished all day by himself. Which was fine although different then other trips I have been on guided. 5. We did not change spoons all day. Again, I dont know if you should or not but it was not offered anyway. 6. I paid for the premium package. Which was 60 dollars more then the normal package. I was not happy with the fact that there was nothing extra included. 7. The clam traps have the worst seats I have ever experienced. Not the guides fault though. We caught some fish but not a lot. The other guys we were out with got skunked so we didnt feel too bad about it. Overall it was a good day. I would use them again but they wouldnt get my very highest recomendation.
  19. I completely agree with atvaholic. Start in shallow and move out. I would suggest looking on shore and seeing if you can find an obvious point. Start in 5 feet and drill out until about 30 or so. They also like wood so if you see a beaver hut its worth drilling a few holes around it. I find Splake almost "cruse" the shoreline. You will get waves of them. Tip ups with minnows work well. Best jigging spoons for me are Williams Whitefish and Rattle Snakies. I personally like to jig most of the day and have one tip up out.
  20. Depending on what kind of fish you are looking for and if you have access to a snowmobile or an ATV you may want to try out several of the lakes in Esker Lakes Provincial Park. It is about a 30 minute drive from town. Most of the lakes have either Brook Trout or Splake in them and can be good fishing. Unless you want to walk 5 or 6 kms you will need the ATV or snowmobile to get in. The MNR stocking list should give you an idea of what is in what lake. The Trial was broken three weeks ago when I was in there. As far as tackle shops your best to buy anything you need before you get there as the selection will not be great there.
