great deal, best price I shopped so far in the States is $871.50 w/ free shipping to US address w/ no state tax they pre-charge duties and taxes if shipped to Canada, I think it might be better to order and have it shipped to the States and pick it up, you should have a chance to get a discount on the taxes and duties

Marcum LX-5 Modification, owners please come in
ah_long replied to ah_long's topic in General Discussion
should've consulted you guys first.... lol but while you guys are giving me ideas, I went to the basement and tried to find something that could spread the weight in the event of a shock/drop and I found two small steel plates I drilled a hole in it and now it's washer -> steel plate -> plastic -> locking nut this also reduced the overall height by around 0.2" so the screw went thru the ny-lock now tell me whether this would do... -
Marcum LX-5 Modification, owners please come in
ah_long replied to ah_long's topic in General Discussion
thanks for the heads up, I'll take your advice and see how I can improve on it.. what I really want to do is to use the stock hardware to mount the bracket and rather than raising the entire bracket, just raise the head unit -
I posted this on Ice Shanty and I thought some OFNers might be interested ----- I was a Humminbird ICE 55 user and I have just "side-graded" to a 2012 LX-5. First thing's first, the 2012 LX-5 doesn't come with the battery indicator anymore and according to Marcum, the indicator is discontinued. In return, Marcum users get a 3 stage charger. 2012 models also come with a snow shield. As soon as I unbox the unit, I realized the head unit sits too low and it crimps the transducer cable. Due to the low height of the head unit, it makes it hard to remove the transducer from the holder. On top of that, it's very inconvenient to store the cable underneath the head unit (I've seen some creative ways of storing the cable such as wrapping it around the flasher display, but c'mon, on a $500 unit?). Here's a picture that shows the issue, you can see how little clearance there is: Coming from the ICE-55, this is definitely a disappointment. The ICE 55 has a great cable management system and a built in battery indicator. Anyhow, I've sold my ICE 55 already and it's time to make this work. I went to the local hardware store, bought some 1/4 nuts and bolts and raised the unit but 0.75". now as you can see, there's much more space between the display and the transducer thus a lot easier to remove the transducer and eliminates crimping. And yes, it would fit in the soft pack with no clearance issues. However, ultimately the best solution would be to have a new bracket for the head unit that raises the head unit by approximately 0.75". That way, there would sufficient space to store the excess transducer cable between the head unit and the metal bracket. And if possible, having two cable posts under the head unit after it has been raised would be great. --------------- My next project would be to install a battery indicator on the unit, most likely a Vexilar D130. I have yet to take it out on the ice as there's no ice yet, but initial impressions and design goes out to the ICE 55 unit. Why I switched you may ask? everyone says the LX-5 is the bomb and I decided to check it out first hand.

you won't need so many lures... btw, night fishing would produce better than day..

I just got back from Cuba and I might be able to offer you a few tip.. 1. bring two rods, one medium and one medium heavy, the longer the better, I use the medium to catch small to medium sized fish and I use the small fish as a bait on the medium heavy rod for bigger fish 2. bring heavy sinkers, 1.5~2.5oz bell sinkers work great 3. dropper loop rig works the best 4. get some galvanized hooks in different size assortments 5. run fresh water thru your gear after use 6. if you prefer to use lures, white and silver works great, but nothing beats shrimp and live fish (shrimp for smaller fish, fish for bigger fish) 7. saltwater fish is not as smart as you think they are 8. I use braided line as a mainline for both my rods, I use a 12lb mono leader for the medium rod and a steel wire leader for the medium heavy good luck here's a fish I caught on charter and some dinger I caught on shore

I actually think these would be awesome for smallies.. there are many times when you're fighting with a smallie, there would be a school following... one smallie = a good fight two smallie = a very good fight three smallie = a very very good fight and if you hit the jackpot with 4 smallies on the line, it would be an epic fight
-
i think the only regulation would be how many hooks you're allowed on one rod... so basically you could have 4 bait on hooks and one decoy if the reg says 4 hooks max
-
Seems like it's all the fire now, anyone have first hand experience with the rig? and how many hooks are we allowed in Ontario? for those who never heard The Alabama Rig seems like 4 hooks is the max in Ontario http://www.mnr.gov.on.ca/en/Business/LetsFish/2ColumnSubPage/STEL02_165347.html

finbore III for manual auger when you get a skimmer, get a metal one with a chisel on the handle ice spikes for ur boots floatation suit definitely recommended flasher is great as well, but it would be $$$ make sure you get a good sled, the pelican ones are a good choice as for lures, I strongly recommend the gulp alive fish fry

fill the last tank all the way up with Shell V Power 93, it has no ethanol in it, and then add stabilizer... for two stroke, run it for 5 minutes to make sure the stabilized fuel has ran thru the fuel lines, and then detach the fuel line and let the motor stall when it runs out of fuel spray fogging oil into carbs and cylinders
-
yup, CMC manual jack plate
-
thanks for the offer, I'll definitely keep that in mind..

ya, did some research, my boat is a 16' so the 22" should be fine.. it would give it a higher top speed but the hole shot would suffer, I'll be looking for a 4 blade 20" pitch as well to play around with
-
one's a spare and the plastic is usually the spare it's just a way of cutting costs for a manufacturer
-
gonna wait for the Laser II 22" to come in... and she should be all done and ready to go by around mid Nov, this engine will look so much nicer on her
-
close enough, it's a 115 polished and waxed the cowl
