  1. As Sheldon suggested go old school. I look at it this way, Minn Kota makes a great motor, BUT to use a transducer for several different (frequencies)and graphs it won't work as effective. j
  2. I spent a number of summer days swimming the slip as a kid. At the Tiffin elevators we fished, swam and rode our dirt bikes down there lots too. At one time Cdn music legend Gordon Lightfoot parked his sailboat the "Golden Goose" in the Port McNicoll slip. Sorry to see another piece of history leave, the old neighbourhood just doesn't look the same anymore.
  3. I use 15# Gamma floro and it has held up very well on many of the lakes that I have fished. My main line is 10# so it will work well with the cranks that are list in the Precision Trolling book. With your drag set correctly and a good rod, you should be able to get many walleyes in the boat. I did see some heavy line and "wire" used last yr while I was fishing the MWC in Dunkirk NY. The fish were deep 80-110 down and it did not seem to spook the walleyes.
  4. For younger anglers 17 and under Lund, has the Angler Young Angler tournaments which have both walleye and bass events. This year Deerbrook Marina in Belle River will be hosting one of these great events on July 11 2009. These events include 2 young anglers and 1 adult angler. The Deerbrook event will be a bass tournament and will have 50 adults teamed with 100 young anglers. I got a note yesterday that Michelle Trudeau from Lund boats announced that the Angler Young Angler tournament program will expand to 29 events across North America for 2009!!
  5. DiggyJ, I would think that some of the Quinte stores should have them. Skevy's, Carra' or Gagnon's and Fishing World possibly. But the best spot to make sure you find a copy is is onlline: http://www.precisionangling.com/
  6. Here is a great link to Mark Romanack's shows on My Outdoor TV . Mark is the author of Precision Trolling(trollers Bible). It shows you how he gets his info on the many crankbaits that we use. http://www.myoutdoortv.com/show-microsite-...ishing-411.html Click the show that says "Precision Trolling" I will be working with Mark this wknd at the Ultimate Fishing Show in Novi Michigan Jan 8-11. This is one of the best sports shows in Michigan and it is only 1/2hr from Windsor. Hope to see you there,
  7. Sorry Charlie, salmon and trout are probably the only 2 major species that don't have good runs in the Windsor area. The US side tried stocking programs in the 80's with limited success and a few still get caught in the spring while jigging the Det River for walleyes. The off shore fishing out of the ports of Wheatley and Erieau have unblelievable fisheries but that is done by boats using rigger and dipsey techniques. The Sarnia(60 miles) area has a bit of a run on the St. Clair river. You may want to contact the Blue Water Anglers club to learn more about their area if it works for you,
  8. For me yellow perch are the best followed by walleyes.
  9. Most of the fish we caught were 6-8# with 3 over 10# and only 4 about 3-4#. Reef Runners make great lures and they are made nearby, Marblehead OH and have fish catching colours. As far as the MWC championship in 2009 my partner Steve Velte and I will be facing a very tough field with plenty of talented anglers. I will be on the water for a wk prefishing for the event. Thankfully it will be on Erie and Steve and each have a Ranger 621, so we can cover plenty of water. Because we finished 2nd for team of the year on the Masters Walleye Circuit we also qualified for the Cabela's National Team Championship that is being held on Devils Lake in North Dakota but with the economy the way it is we are not sure if we will go. After 24 yrs the auto supplier I work for will be closing soon. The good news is I will be fishing more by guiding full time in 2009. Thanks for the encouraging words,
  10. Well it may have been the last kick at the can with ice starting to form all over. I fished with tournament partner Steve Velte and hit Erie a about 9am-1:30pm. We fished south of Pelee Island and beat them up pretty good boating 23 walleyes and losing about 9 or 10. Cranks were the ticket, slow with a variety of colours working, purple perch, pink squirrel, and blk wonderbread. Hopefully there will be a warm spell sometime soon. I remember a few yrs back fishing into Jan and the fishing was excellent then too.
  11. As much as I like going fast in a bass boat, the deep V's are more practical. You doesn't sound like you are going to be fishing in the slop so you don't need the shallow draft of a bass boat. With a 17-19' deep V you can fish most anywhere. Simcoe shoals, the Kawartha lakes and even the great lakes. Rig it properly you can troll for musky or walleye, downrig for salmon/trout and drift for bass. I prefer glass myself and choose to buy a Ranger 621 for all the big water and have it rigged for all species and techniques. You have all winter to choose and with the economy the way it is, I am sure you will find what you want at your price.
  12. Grew up in the Victoria Harbour/Midland area until 82, there were no fish left at that time and moved to Windsor. Been here since and I am still surprised that an urban area has such an unbelievable fishery-walleye-musky-bass-perch and rainbow.
  13. Here is a picture of the winner of the Curtis Atwater walleye print. Kristi Johnson of Cottam Ont. I met with Kristi and her family just the other day. Congrats Kristi, it was hard to give up a beautiful walleye print like that! For prizes like this one and many more check out www.extremeanglertv.com for your chance to win.
  14. Good job Moe. I hope to see you on the water soon. I have stayed away from the (zoo) but will make a trip or 2 during the wk days once in a while. Tell the gang I said "Hi".
  15. The St. Mary has some decent walleye fishing. That is one of the reasons it was chosen for the professional walleye tour, which stops there this wknd on the US side. Being a long river there are plenty of places to fish for them. Some of the most popular are by the power station on the US side, the mouth of Lake George, the bridge on the Ont side I forget the name. We jigged, casted and drifted for them. great scenery and a wow to see the boats lock and manuever the channels.
  16. Well I got the chance to take the guys who were the winning bidders on Tylers auction out yesterday. What a perfect Cinco de Mayo day it was, light winds and sunshine! Our first drift down the river Beaner boats 2 walleye. We continued to catch fish thoughout the day with a number of smallies, silver bass, sheephead and yellow perch to mix it up. We came back to the ramp with 12 good walleyes around 2-3 lbs. We had a great time telling jokes and having laughs, the guys were talking about having a few cold ones and frying some fish later in the day. I want to thank them and all those who stepped to the plate and helped Tyler and his family. This includes those who did not win the items that they were bidding on. Thanks again Dwayne, Jay and Beaner I enjoyed my time.
  17. Despite being muddy from the NE winds we boated a number of walleyes Mon. With the warm stable weather coming this wk, look for some great action. The Michingan Walleye Tour stopped in on the river this past wknd and with the cold and winds the winners still managed 53# for 10 walleyes. http://www.michiganwalleyetour.com/2008/index.html
  18. One of the best Ganders is in Novi, 96 and Novi RD. The new Sportsmans Waehouse has plenty of muskie stuff the other stores don't have. It is located at 94 W and Oakwood in Alllen Park http://www.sportsmanswarehouse.com/store.cfm?storeNum=166 Enjoy the shopping.
  19. Current conditions are very muddy on the Ont side but fishable on the Mich side. Cold front coming in later today. It was about 20 degrees today and high tomorrow is about 7 or 8. Things are slow right now but will pick up shortly.
  20. I would recommend 3 locations for sturgeon in Ontario, St. Clair River, Detroit River and the St. Mary's River in the Soo.
  21. The Flyer was fast and would ride above the waves but on BIG Erie wave days it had to be slowed downed and could not ride on the Hydrofoils. It would take abut 25 minutes to get to the Island at crusing speeds versus the almost 3 hrs on the Jiiman Ferry. I was on the Flyer once for a memorial to the Island for a friend who passed away on the tragic flight 126 from Pelee Island.
  22. There was a type of hover craft used a few yrs back. It was the Pelee Flyer and here is a link. http://www.middlebass2.org/PeleeFlyer2003.shtml It is no longer is use.
  23. I travel frequently to the US and have a passport with no problems. I also travel with others that use only a birth cert and drivers license with NO problem. They are looking for proof of citizenship. Enjoy the tîp.
  24. Joey, Extreme Angler TV has Dave Kennedy doing the drop shot for lakers this Sat on OLN at 9:30am and again at 12 noon. Dave shows you how he uses his electronics to find the fish and then he jigs them up.
  25. Don't be afraid to try drop shotting too. We were in Algonquin last spring fishing 75' of H2O and the drop shot rig pulled a number of fish. We also jigged with spoons and round jigs and plastic minnows, all techniques were successful.
