Mike the Pike

With a change in the weather forcast I got a call from good friend GlennK to fish on the Richelieu River in Sabrevois Quebec in his New boat. We launched at our Lund Dealer and put in about 4.5 hours. We stayed close to the Marina until a good portion of the fog burnt off we found some fish very close to the boats. The fog lifted and we proceeded to Glenn's favorite spots and some of mine. The hot lures today were red and white Mepps#5 and green chartreuse spinner baits. After a long dry spell it felt good to catch some decent fish.In all Glenn caught 8 pike and one Large mouth Bass. I squeeked by with a smallie and a decent Large Mouth.I am finally getting the hang of using my baitcaster reel. Thanks to the great advice on this board What a great morning looking forward to fishing with GlennK and our sons next weekend on Lake Champlain,Swanton Vermont. Here are some pics. Bly I said medium heavy but like you I use 30 lb braid (Stren Super Braid 9lb diameter) I hate to use leaders sometimes I get lucky the pike hooked deep but the braid is freyed but does not always get cut if that was mono say good bye to the fish . Oh and Bly uses a fish magnet there is also one vey lucky horshoe in her tackle box. Yes I am jealous because I haven't caught my first Muskie yet

WTG Rich you lose some thats fishing now look on the positive side your child will grow fast and well you will be able to go more often and the wife will want you guys to go off to your favorite spots for longer periods of time.

Sweet report Mike always enjoy young kids taking part in fishing my kids like it alot but the 13 year old is losing interest Thankfully the 2 younger children like fishing. Can't we to go there next June

I have a padlock on the motor but I also lock the main motor to my kicker with a thick cable lock now I know if they want it they will cut the locks but docked beside my boat is always easier prey that is not locked . What we need is a new justice system where it would be 10 yrs in the clink for such a theft.

Well here is the real deal I have alot of years experience fishing sure I thought about chasing it down with the boat remember it was a Shimano Sedona 2000 reel.There was already atleast 200 feet out when we got the hit trolling not much left on the spool. Things happen fast my first reaction was tighten Ryan's drag I even tightened it to the maximum I could but the big brute managed to pull out lots of line. Did NOT have time to do what all have sugessted. Whatever it was it was powereful and in the double digit range . We were targetting small snot rockets s h e e t happens Thats fishing .I will be gettin a shimano 4000 series for my boy this will give him a little more clout just in case he happens to run into the big guy again. The boy is over it and we have heavy muskie rods for the big uns but sometimes the wrong fish hits your light tackle thats fishin. MTP

Thanks for the kind words and comments all.I has a little rant about one disrespectful boater while out in my canoe. Its in my report. What gets to me is the system we have where one can go on line and obtain a boaters licence operator card. What for ;I don't think it will make people aware of the do's and don't just some basic safety issues. I took a boaters course and I must say I did learn alot from it. One thing that was clearly told to us is as a boater you are responsible for your wake. When approaching a small craft ,Kayak ,Canoe or small boat you must slow down if you are very close to these vessels common sense is all you need.I know that the kind folks on this board have that respect but the boating world has to make big boats respect the smaller crafts. If a boater does swamp you or you feel it was a close call try and get the boats ID number you can report him to the OPP or QPP and they will get a fine no questions asked.Sorry just my rant but Morons need to be removed from our waterways. I use power pro on some rods if you want superior quality buy some Stren Super Braid it does not get that many mentions on this board but it is high quality line and keeps its colour compaired to powerpro.Lasts a long time. MTP

Marko I tried junior may have had one on never seen a walleye rod lose all its line that fast did not even have time to chase it down with the boat BTW I will be buying Ryan a 4000 series shimano may help him land the fish next time lol. Marko I will be out on the St.Lawrence this fall looking for them. MTP

Yes Scuro had I put the time in I may have found more Large mouth.I like fishing from the canoe but boaters who wizz by close to the canoe I don't like.One night we fished under a bridge by 9pm the mosquitos were so bad you inhaled them when breathing I would of stuck it out but 2 of my children could not cope with them anymore.Love to bring my boat there because the bass are there just have to put the time in .Justin Hoffman finds them I will go back but with the boat thanks for all the kind comments folks .MTP

Wow Emil that is an excellent report what a place What is that fat fish in the 14th pic your son holding it .a sheepy? I love the shot of your boat with the sun setting in the background last pic. Sounds like you had a great vacation .I have been off 2 weeks and the weather was much nicer
