Done, would have liked a none of the above as well. Would have liked independant fishing store as option on a couple. Bill

Well, I don't really have a lot to add other than to say, simply, if I have only 100. to spend, take your reel in, try all the rods in that price range and pick the one that feels the best. I'm not a pro fisherman, so when I bought my Citica I went in and tried all the rods I could afford from St Croix, Loomis, E21, Daiwa , Shimano etc. I personally don't like the split grip and love a cork handle so I ended up with the 7' crank bait rod from Bass Pro. Tried the St Croix Mojo Bass and don't like the reel seat or the, what I perceive to be the lack of finish where it just has the screw part above the seat and that's it. Again, I just picked the one that felt the best and went with that. May be newbie talk but I can't retain all that info on guides and blanks and action etc. etc. Bill

I like the idea however, let's try and keep it as simple as possible. Manufacturing firms like high volume numbers but I don't see the necessity of holding inventory. For example, I'm sure if you approach a vendor and say we as a group have 5000 members , we want a percentage above cost on all your items and we'll send our business your way. Your're not holding any inventory, or any of the hassels, just get a commitment on items sold to OFC members and would need a commitment on the part of members to buy from these guys. As the numbers build up, better discounts are garnered. Basically asking for tenders to provide rods and reels to OFC members. Bill -
Got everyone's attention there. Not really but I got Wii extreme fishing for Xmas. What a blast. Must have spent 4 hours playing this stupid game. Lot's of fun. got my ass whooped by the daughter: Bill

Well , let's see, you said it was a gravel driveway? I doubt that a vacuum would work as you'd be trying to suck up your own gravel as well. I might suggest raking the gravel so the glass migrates down to the substrate and then getting a load of gravel to cover up the area that was affected. This is probably the quickest and easiest way to correct the problems. Doesn't get rid of the glass but takes it out of harms way, the edges should be abraded so it won't be sharp and it will be coverred up. Bill

You know, I understand why some of you don't want spots posted on the forum board. There are good fishermen and bad fishermen who don't appreciate the resource. If I wanted to get an idea of a spot to fish, I would PM someone. Given that, I find it egotistical for some of you guys to think that a resource is for your enjoyment only. For example, I went to Nipissing for vacation, I get to go fishing one week a year usually, run business and have no time. I Google earthed the area, bought a hydrographic map, and have a portable fish finder and yet, if the owner of the lodge had not been forthcoming with a good idea of how to get to an area I could have gone the whole week without fish. When you don't own a boat with a big 150 hp engine that can zoom all over the place in a few minutes you need assistance. If I am out on the water and I'm catching fish and see a man and his son not catching any, I'll tell them what I'm using and the area. The more people that conscientiously use the resource, the better the resouce will survive. Also , as someone who doesn't own a boat, ideas on where to shore fish are greatly appreciated from one who appreciates the resource probably as much or more than anyone here. Sorry, my two cents worth. Bill

.223 and I didn't practice a few times. LOL, LOl. Bill

Yeah, I generally use about 4' of fluro leader anyway. Reel is spooled with 15 lb. braid and I'll put the same # as a leader in Seaguar leader material. bill

Well I did it, I bought the Shimano Saros F 2500 for my new spinning reel. This is a sweet little machine, light , feels solid , two spools and a good price. Close to the top of the line, only eclipsed by the Stradic and Stella models. I went to Hook, Line and Sinker in Guelph and Ray and his staff were great. Brought out the new Stradic FJ for me to look at as well as the Quantum Energy PTi. Gave me numerous tips on line, (going to try the Daiwa Samurai braid), and even taught me a couple new knots, one that I'm going to use a lot. I recommend this store highly. Can't wait to try this little beast out, too bad I couldn't afford the Shimano Compre rod that we put it on to see how it felt. Thanks for all the info guys. Bill

Thanks Roy, about the rods I have to agree. I much prefer a good cork handle rod over everything. I tried a bunch of rods when I bought my Citica from G Loomis, St Croix, E21, Daiwa, Shimano and ended up with the BPS crankbait rod mostly because the cork handle felt real good in the hand and the action was what I wanted. Unfortunately can't get to Gagnon's so I'll have to see what I can do about a new spinning reel. Bill
-
Okay, I've got about $170.00 to spend on this reel and if I could make it to Gagnon's I'd think I'd purchase the Sustain 1000. I'm looking for a spinning reel for precision casting on the medium light to light rod for bassfishing. Hoping for something from 7-9 oz, so the Sustain and the Stradic FJ fit right in there. I hate to get Shimano biased in all my gear but damn:worthy: Thanks to all you gentlemen for your input. It has been helpful. Can you order the door crasher reels from Gagnon's and have them sent to you? Mike ?? Bill
-
Okay , can someone help me then, I've gone to the Shimano site and the only Stradic's there are the C14 microline, the C14 and the StardicFJ. What is the difference between the Stradic FJ and this Stradic FI that all you guys seem to have. I did look at the Daiwa Whiskers but it is one ugly reel, has great reviews though.
-
Okay guys, I'm getting burnt out trying to decide on a new reel. I'm looking at a number but I've got it narrowed down to a few. The Shimano SarosF, Pflueger supreme Xt,, Quantum Catalyst pti, and the Okuma Inspira 20. Now, I am leaning to the SarosF, but can't understand the difference between it and the others , and as well, there doesn't seem to be much difference between the Saros and the STradicFJ. Need some direction here, trying to compare apples to apples but for example the Okuma offers 9 ball bearings but the Saros only 3 I think it is. Heeelp,

Thank you, my late father was in the RCNVR on the HMCS Royal Mount in the 2nd world war. That was beautiful. Bill

Mink definitely, unless I'm wrong the Pine Marten is mostly a land animal . I always thought fisher and Marten were both the same creature. Bill

703 now, done and done. Bill: -
Yeah Pete was using the jigging spoon and the other gentleman, (can't remember his name) guided on Lake Joseph and was using the big sucker minnows. Seemed they both did alright, just watched this episode last weekend I think. Bill

Consestoga Lake, all we caught were crappies, of course my buddy with the boat has got trolling tunnel vision and would not stop and fish structure for bass. Almost strangled him. Bill

Weightless fishing and high visibility line.

I've been using 15 lb. Spider thread high vis with a 15 lb. flouro leader at least 4'. Can still feel everything and my success rate this year has been great. However, I don't watch the line that much and fish more by feel . Use it on the baitcaster reel, on the spinning reel that I use for shorter , more precision casts I still use Spider thread but not high vis and still use the same 4' leader but since I'm fishing little holes closer to me , don't need the high vis. Well woke up this am and decided wanted to wet my line. Was going to go to Mountsberg and as I don't have a boat, do some shore fishing. Well went to Mountsberg main gate and they don't open until 8:30 am and I'm there at 6:30 am after dropping off my daughter at work. Wife and I say, we'll go to Burns and play around. No, not that, anyway end up catching 3 x 1-2.5 lb. small mouth using a 5" Senko wacky rigged. I was pleased to come up with anything because the water level was quite low. Only irritating thing was the gentleman who came and started casting right beside me after I caught the fish. I'd reel in, he'd cast to the spot just next to where I had cast to. Kept moving from one side to the other of me. Finally left though, after I caught a fish with him standing next to me. A morning well spent, saw a white egret which was a surprise, snapping turtles, herons, ducks quite enjoyable. Bill

Stayed at Bryer Lodge two years in a row, cabins are GREAT, Almost home like, in fact, one is the previous home of the owners, nice boats for rent, good dock. The years we stayed there , water was down, and the fishing was not that great. Could have been myself but no one in camp had much luck. Just down the bay from Totem Point and Wolseley Lodge, go up the bay and across the French Main and you're by Lochhaven Lodge. Never did find the rapids west of Lochhaven, fishing may have been better below them. Not much luck at the base of Five Finger rapids though. Bill

Open lake vs. weeds , newbie looking for advice
cynmar replied to MichaelAngelo's topic in General Discussion
Good suggestions but he was shorefishing and this makes a lot of the answers difficult to practice. How deep was the drop off, a sheer drop or gradual transition. If it was a drop off to deep water on the open side with a nice transition from the weedy side, I'd cast there from the shore first. I would probably then try a Senko or something like that in the holes in the weedy side. Try using a crankbait along the transition to the open lake side where the weeds seem to thin out. Bill -
Thanks for the input guys, I saw the Quantum in the classifieds, didn't know how heavy it was, going to check it out as well as the other suggestions. Great help. Bill
-
I've got the 6735, find it a bit heavy. Bill

No, the Mepps I was throwing was a #4 and #5 Mepps Anglia . I haven't opened up the reel yet, too busy, going to check things out and get back to everyone about my results. Thanks. Bill:
