  1. Okay, I can only get out occassionally and don't own my own boat. But I love to fish for Bass. I am thinking about a weekend getaway to go Bass fishing was just looking on Google. The Long Point area looks like interesting water at least from the Google map. What do you guys think? Are there any good places to stay for a weekend in that area? What about boat rentals or charters? Any info would be helpful. The idea of going into the wildlife park to do some photography also has some interest for me. Bill
  2. Thanks, haven't had my second cup of coffee yet. Bill
  3. Great, thanks, how do I get to the conservation authority?
  4. Okay, I don't own a boat, is there some good spots on Guelph Lake that you can shore fish from. Don't know the area so directions would help? I know there is a bridge on Hwy 24, is fishing allowed there? Any suggestions appreciated.
  5. You are right , maybe the regulations should be changed, however, there should be an innate sense of what is right to keep. I don't have your stats on the mortality of young perch, perhaps the lack of respect for the resource contributes to that. I see no sense in keeping a fish that is 3 " long. That says to me that you don't care about the resource and will exploit it to the inevitable result of collapse of that resource. As well, you are right about keeping the progenitors of the next species, that also needs to be viewed with a renewable resource picture in mind. Bill
  6. I was out this weekend and as usual got irritated. I am not a pro fisherman, just like to put my line in the water and enjoy the sport. I do get irritated when we have people that don't respect the resource. I am looking around and people are keeping fish that wouldn't be larger than my fingers. How do they get a liscence? We need to educate these people that no matter what your culture is where you came from, here we respect the resource and you put the small ones back. I am not against eating a few fish, but they need to be in the right size range to protect the resource. There , I am done ranting. Bill
  7. Thanks Guys that sold me. I prefer to buy from someone who is commited to Canadian employment. I was simply looking at the # of ball bearings and the retrieve ratios. I think Daiwa and Abu may be ahead in this but the committment to quality will sell me every day. I am going to look at the Shimano web site now. I didn't think their mid range prices were way out of line. Bill
  8. Thanks guys. Is Shimano really that good above all the rest? All the responses seem to be pretty well in favour of Shimano models of one level or the other. I'll admit that I am not a professional and don't spend all the time on research however, they didn't seem all that far above other models in the bearings used etc. Bill
  9. Okay , the Daiwa finally bit the dust, after years of loyal service and some serious abuse. (Dropped in the water at least twice but serviced every year.) I am looking for a new low profile baitcasting reel. I like Daiwa, and my Abu Garcia level wind. I am an average fisherman and only get out maybe 4 or five times to fish a summer. Work too much. Anybody have any suggestions. Not spending 3-400 dollars on it either. Bill
  10. Hydrographic maps if you can get them.
  11. I'm glad someone did well, sounds like you were in the Lower French, Southern Channel?? Wolesley Bay on the North Channel was a bear. Bill
  12. Who knows , maybe I'm a bad fisherman but I tried jigging with different colours, spinnerbaits, crankbaits, trolling with Deep diver and different sized lures nothing. The only thing we had success with at all were top water baits, the Pop R and another one I can';t remember the name of. But even then, when we got hits, if they missed on the first boil (which they usually do), they didn't come back for the second try, even when we did let it sit. The last day there, the gentleman got some smallies at a little bay on the north side of the main channel south of Twin Pines bay. There was also some success in the bay in behind Lochhaven Lodge. Bill
  13. Sorry Rich, don't own my own boat so didn't really look at the launch, however, there were a number of people launching and taking boats out so I guess they are surviving. I take it the Wolesley launch you are talking about is the one where the Wolesley river enters the bay? Bill
  14. Just finished one week Wolesley Bay , French River. Water is down about 4-5ft. Had two fronts roll through so the fishing was tough at best. Run and Gun and only got 2 small pike, one small Muskie and some Rock bass for the whole week. Whole camp , only two other with fish about the same until the last day. One gentleman got onto some smallies, got a good one and some pike and walleye. All and all , very disappointing, surface temp around 70 + , all the fish 40 + feet down hugging the bottom. Bill
  15. Not sure I agree because I don't see any government paring down, I believe it was the PS.T. department that not only kept their jobs moving to the HST section but their union got them a nice fat severance pay because they lost their job with P.S.T. prior to going to work the next day under the H.S.T. Didn't even move their damn chair. Now that is just wrong. I see a lot of service companies are going to either lose revenue or be faced with decreased profits and the associated cuts. I own a janitorial company and we are faced with no increases. In some cases, we have been asked to eat the increase in tax, as prior to July we only charged G.S.T. Decrease in profit, no investment in equipment , employment to training.!! Growth stagnates. I know I am sounding extreme and as you say the other parties are no different. We have to look at a different regime where people expect less from the government and we can perhaps force them to pare themselves down. Bill
  16. Already some on the land around I think is was Kingsville, and there are some around Flesherton or Stayner I can't remember which on the way to Lake Huron. The Nordic countries are making extensive use of offshore wind farms. I would have serious concerns if they are close to migration routes for birds etc. to and from Pelee. I would rather have wind farms than the massive solar farms I have seen examples of on the discovery channel. Bill
  17. Hello to everyone, I work too hard and fish too little. Where is the lotto.
