  1. Regarding barefoots comment will a pflueger survive 3 years of hard use? Only reason I haven't bought a pflueger patriarch is because my only president lasted 3 months before it died. Had 3 shimano sedonas I used for 5 years, still alive. Now I have an ugly fleet of stradics that I predict will last longer than I will. I just don't think any of the competition makes reels as tough as shimano. Save up and collect a fleet of stradics and you will never regret it
  2. That almost sounds like line slipping on the spool. You should notice major differences when adjusting the tension.
  3. Eyelid sounds horrible. Knuckle IS super annoying. Neck is torture. They always bite close to the collar. Which is constantly scratching the bites making them swell and get painfully itchy. Can't go shirtless when the bugs are thick.
  4. A sharp knife and always remember to leave yourself a couple inches tag so you have something to grip when cutting.
  5. Quinte.
  6. Anywhere between the dam and port Maitland can be good for walleye. Don't be intimidated by the murky water. Troll 3" cranks with rattles. Some days you need to be pounding bottom in 12' other days only 5' down just about anywhere. Its a great place to work on your trolling game. If you try jigging at the dam, set a time limit. If you dont see a walleye in an hour pull anchor and start trolling.
  7. My understanding of the GL2 seris is they were designed for jig/ worm applications. I didn't realize there was a specific drop shot rod. I have two GL2's. 802 JWS and 854 JWS. 802 is nice for small cranks and jerkbaits and a variety of soft plastic presentations. 854 is a meat stick. Should be good for swimbaits and big cranks and jerkbaits. Less of a multi tasker than the 802... which has become my go to for twitching suspending jerkbaits at night for walleye. Wicked feel and control. Hurry up friday midnight!!!
  8. I think you meant to say "they are not like SEA lampreys!!!"Sea lampreys are invasive parisites found in the great lakes that feed on live fish.
  9. Two correct ways. Therefore one of which is more correct than the other. I wouldn't lose sleep over it though. Plenty of other more important fishing related things to concentrate on.
  10. I believe that some people feel a need to drive home a point and others don't like to admit that their way might not be the best way. I know what works for me. Some might think its the best way. Others might feel the need to try and convince me otherwise. It can be done wrong. So its a matter of how wrong is acceptable to you. Just sayin...
  11. Don't try to tie on a lure with only 2 feet of line out the end of your rod. Slack line when tying knots makes tying good knots quickly a breeze.
  12. Careful with 110's in shallow water. Especially in cold water. Friend of mine has had the lip break off on 2 or 3. Some come with no split ring for line tie. Add one or attach with a small cross lock snap. Same friend has broken a couple off on small fish. No split ring, he was tying direct and figures the line rubbing on the lures eye weakened his knot. Trick darter is another wicked ito bait. Anyone tried rick clunn's ito knock offs? I've heard theyre great once you change the hooks.
  13. I like a MH F spinning rod with 10 lb braid for most of my bass/ walleye jerk baiting. Also nice for most cranks under 1/2 oz. Heavier cranks, 15 to 30 braid on a MH moderately fast BC setup. If you want casting distance with smaller baits you will be dissapointed at the results compared to using a spinning setup. Unless you are willing to fork out $300 or more on your BC reel, plan to use them to fish heavier baits on heavier line.
  14. I just checked again. Not in the exceptions. In "additional opportunities"
  15. New regs don't list big creek in year round open season. Instead they have it listed as extended fall season. Or am I missing something?
  16. If you have a dog, bring it. I watched in amazement as a 20 lb beagle chased a 200 lb black bear out of our camp on crown land near bisco one year. Funny, didn't see that dog before or after that encounter. He must have been with one of the hunting groups that were camping further back from the lake. But he lit a fire under that bear and sent him scampering along the shoreline. Bear didn't look back until he was over 1/2 km away on the far side of the bay. The dog never left camp. And the bear didn't come back for the rest of our stay.
  17. If I were in your shoes, I'd be using completely different combos for walleye. Two rods for pike and two for eyes.
  18. It probably is a productive lake. But like most "honey holes" people that know like to keep it quiet. I have never fished it but its on my list. Give it a shot. Is the water clear? Maybe the fish are more nocturnal...
  19. If youre using the transducer from your boat, set it horizontally like it would be on your transom. Also, make sure that the transducer is completely below the bottom surface of the ice. Marko's screen shot looks like he's getting a return and echoes from something close to the transducer.
  20. Nice fish. Sounds like it was earned. Put a lanyard on your camera and keep it around your neck inside your coat. Make it a habit to keep the batteries warm so you can get a few pics next time you catch a 50.
  21. Get a pickup truck. Not sure why someone would spend that kinda money on a hut and not consider these things beforehand. If you can find some kind of rooftop travel bag that you can fit the hut in that might work.
  22. I'd be tempted to put another couple hundred yards of good quality float line on it. First time pinning... to retrieve a drift bring rod tip low, palm reel and pull rod tip high. allow line to settle, now spin reel and lower tip to water slowly to pick up line. Palm reel again, repeat. You will eventually Learn to keep it spinning and drag along the surface but for your first few times use the pull, spin method till you get comfortable with it. I think it will be an advantage to learn with a shortish rod. Much less cumbersome.

    Gloves

Try bringing 2 pairs of fingerless cotton or wool gloves. Keep a pair tucked inside your sweater and swap them back and forth once the first pair gets damp. Also remember to keep a towel handy to dry your hands. Dry hands and a warm spare set is about all you should need.
  24. Trout are closed upstream from brantford as of Oct 1st. There are probably some around anywhere down from brantford. Check the regs to find out about what's open in your area.
  25. I'm sure the glow vibrax will work. Give it a try, its the only way to know for sure. But like others have mentioned, non glow lures might work better. Try shallow running stick baits. Most times you want your presentation above the fish. Sometimes closer to the surface than to the bottom. I've fished places where you could catch fish all night on topwaters...
