  1. When you spend that kinda money you're gonna get a sick combo. Doesn't matter if its shimano st croix loomis. Its all high end stuff. How much are you spending on this combo? Sounds to me like someone has a wad of cash burnin a hole in their pocket.
  2. Id be inclined to give night fishing a try. I've found that my best results fishing at night happen when the water is at its clearest. One spot on the grand river is awesome for bass n eyes but only at night when the water is clear. Really tough during the day clear or murky. Ok with stained water at night and complete garbage when dirty. The real obvious tips like lighter tackle and smaller baits etc all lead to the same end presentation. Finesse. Just need to try a variety of baits and fish'em with finesse. On the other end of the spectrum you should also consider reaction baits. Long casts well past your target with a 6" swimbait could work. Pound bottom with a diving crank. Keep it moving fast.
  3. Sweet! Nice catch for MJL's buddy. But is it bigmouth or smallmouth? Are there two seperate species? I've seen/ caught quillback on the lower grand but never a buffalo.
  4. Are you trying to tell me that fish stopped eating senkos because everyone went out and bought a bag? I laugh. Senkos were awesome when they first came out and they're still awesome. I hope I can still buy GYB worms when I'm 90. 1/4 oz belly weighted 4/0 my friend. Let the current take it to the fish. Tick tick thud! Its that simple. Just gotta set the hook and wheel'em in. Senkos are part of my arsenal. Most times I'll start with faster moving presentations. Then slow down a bit with suspending cranks. There are times that the suspending cranks don't get put away. Go slower still dragging tubes. Finally to clean up the leftovers a bottom bounced senko. Some days just stickin with a do nothing easy yet active presentation will get a ton of fish. Bass will eat a lot of different baits. But when it comes to a bait that fish eat and won't let go of, senkos are hard to beat. Today, different spot same river dozens of bites from another hundred meter long section. Awesome average size. 4 fish over 18". You can't argue results. Bass that turn their noses at other baits will seldom pass up a properly presented senko. Dingers and other worms work too, but smallies aboslutely love to eat senkos. Everywhere too, not just on my river. Id love to find a deep school of picky smallies and let them empty a bag or two on me.
  5. Have you tried senkos? If a fish turns down a senko its not a bass That's why electronics are bad. You know there's fish down there but what are they? It sounds like you're using good bass tactics. Maybe try using your electronics to find bass structure as opposed to fish. There are a few places that I fish where you mark big schools of who knows what? And catch squat. Move to some kind of depth change or other form of structure and mark less fish, but actually get a few bites. If you're convinced that you're marking bass, find someone that has an aqua view and invite them out. That's one way to find out for sure. I'm serious about the senko comment though. I shore fished a stretch of river with senkos this aft. In 5 hours I had dozens of bites. This stretch of river is a hundred meters long and holds lots of bass of all sizes. There is no other bait that I could use to cast through an area repeatedly and catch bass all day like that. I might go back tomorrow.
  6. So, I like to think I'm a pretty handy guy. I can take care of most repairs and maintenance my equipment. Recently my manual start 20hp 2 stroke has been giving me some ignition grief. Simply put, no spark. I took it in last summer and was told that the stator plate needed to be replaced. So I replaced it $$$! It ran fine till one trip this spring. Now it won't start. I've been procrastinating and now feel that it must be fixed. Id like to know if there's a way to diagnose the source of the problem. I think it comes down to moisture/ wear and tear. Its possible that the stator is toast again. But it could also be the coils or the control box. How can I tell? I know there is a way to test every component of the ignition system using a multi meter. But I don't know where to begin. Thanks for any suggestions. And big thanks if you point out an easy fix
  7. Not good for the motor to run it dry. It could overheat. If you want to drain iyour battery maybe run your boat lights with it for a few days. Trickle discharge?
  8. X-raps. I had 2 or 3 of'em and only a fish or two to show for $30 worth of lures. Started fishin with a bud that swears by'em. After a few trips I started gettin the hang of them. I always figured they should be fished like a husky jerk. Jerk pause jerk jerk pause. But nope. They really shine when jerked had. Really hard. Long pauses followed by agressive jerks. Then "tick" hookset, fish on! I've got a few dozen x-raps now. And they have become one of my go to baits for smallies and eyes. If you want to get good at jigging, start simple. Go for river smallies on 3" natural coloured jigs. Avoid areas that require long casts. Try to angle your cast slightly downstream. Let the current do most of the work but keep giving the jig a pop to keep it up out of the moss and rocks. Bottom contact is important but not crucial. Keeping the tail moving is. And don't hesitate on hooksets. Bass don't nibble on a grub. They inhale them... Persistance is key. Pretty much any lure will catch fish. But some need to be worked a certain way to get the best results.
  9. Any knot is a weak point and should be tested before putting your lure in the water. And really test it. Try to make it fail. If you can break it, chances are so can a fish. I really don't like tying on flouro leads. Id rather use straight up mono, flouro or braid. The problem with tying on leads is that you are adding more knots. More knots is more weak points. More snap offs!
  10. To the original poster... Both lakes are good fishing lakes. I prefer conestogo but that's only because I've fished there more and therefore have better results. Pike are easy. Lots near weeds or flooded trees along shore. Big pike are tougher to find. I still haven't caught one over 30" but they are there. Bass are almost everywhere. walleye, well just read some of the above posts Boating hazards are an excellent place to start for bass and eyes. Just pick up a map at the gatehouse. Belwood. There are walleye. No secret there. I find it a tougher lake. Lots of good fish in there though. Just need to learn it and the fish will come. Both are busy lakes. So don't plan trips there on weekend afternoons. Good luck.
  11. Rangers come with a few different v6's My last truck had a 4.0 the one I drive now has a 3.0 Fuel efficiency is no better. If I were towing something over 2000 lbs I would go for the 4.0 no, just get the 4.0 no matter what. Good trucks. Just not very roomy.
  12. If you are after carp, they're everywhere. No need to go far. All rivers that flow into lake ontario will have carp. You can fish lake ontario for carp too. Just get out and explore. You WILL find them.
  13. As much as I agree with your ideals, I really don't believe that anything will ever change at puslinch. The lake is probably close to 75% private shoreline. its not a big lake. But its basically owned. Not by the ski school or any one person. Opening a CA / public access at puslinch would be great but there will always be power boating. If you're looking for a quiet wave free day of fishing, shades mill and the grand river are both very close. There's lots of good fishing available in the kw region. Spread your wings. Fish puslinch in the morning and another spot in the aft.
  14. And when you're approached by an "employee" of the ski school and asked for your $10 launch fee I doubt any of that money goes into the cash register. If they insist that you pay make sure that you insist that you pay in the office and watch the money go into the till. Ask for a reciept to put on your dash too. Make it an inconvenience to them.
  15. Puslinch has lots of fish. If you know how to catch pike you can get lots. Mostly small though. There are bonus nickel largies and weed walleyes but its mostly a pike/ panfiish lake. I don't fish puslinch with walleye as my target. Stick to pike or bass methods and you might be surprised.
  16. Puslinch, just grin and bear it. Only thing you have on the water skiers is that some of them don't use spotters. There's somethin to watch for. Tellin the cops that they're makin waves isn't gonna get much attention. It drives me nuts sometimes but its worth it.
