  1. Oh, now I gotta cruise by there to see... I'm just up past Rymal and Sherman...
  2. Spinnerdoc, that's a very impressive piece of work. Esthetically pleasing, and the fact that it's functional is icing on the cake. I too was wondering if you were thinking of doing a fly-reel as I scanned the posts...
  3. Dave, I'm glad to hear you're busy. As to the offer, when you've got some time, I'll make myself available!
  4. PM received! Yeah, I'm not too jealous... But obviously congratulations are in order!
  5. Many moons ago, (more than I wish to think about), we used to troll from the back of the wave pool in confederation to the bottom of Greys Rd. A blue and silver Cleo with Berkley Trout scent was always good for a few fish... I remember my little brother getting fish right off of the rocks along there too... They ARE there... Or more likely, WILL be there...
  6. I can usually be found in between Caledonia and York. Not having a TON of luck this year, but I've managed to catch pike, walleye, SMB, cats, sucker, sheephead, and mooneyes. Want to try to get better at the fly casting, so that's all I bring usually.
  7. Okay, as a new, (Read: very new), fly chucker, I've gone out a couple times wading in the Grand, and even managed to catch my second fish on it tonight; this time on a fly I tied myself! If there are any other folks interested in doing some wading a casting, let's make an evening out of it. Maybe we can learn from each other's mistakes and strengths. I'll be out there anyway...
  8. When I was a kid, we used to float around Bronte harbour and catch salmon with marshmallows on little trebles. No foul hooking, caught them fair and square... Nice time was had by me anyway....
  9. I've fished there overnight before, and for $5 you just can't beat it. Even when the cut bait is sold out, you'll get fish with his worms. (Well, not HIS worms, but you know what I mean) Try it, you'll like it... Oh, and Vinnie is a butt kisser.... Hehehehe....
  10. Vince, you're a brave man. I spent some time fishing with a 5 year old last week, which I haven't done in a decade when my daughter was that age... And that was just 1! Can't wait to see the pics. I love watching little kids fishing. Their excitement is just infectious, but they do take their toll. Cheers!
  11. I've had a few handhelds, and I did like the eTREX line. Although they are limited in what they'll do, they do it very well. I just got the GPSmap 60 Cx and I love it. It cost me $250, but worth every penny. As long as you don't expect a lot of advanced features from it, the eTREX is a great deal at that price.
  12. Really? Any sheephead I've caught before had a more pronounced hump, so I didn't even think of that....
  13. Well, after the Muskoka trip I was feeling a little disappointed. After hearing all sorts of good things about Butterfly Lake, I was amped to get into the pike and bass. When we arrived at the cottage, we found out that someone blew the motor on the boat the previous weekend, so... NO BOAT! Okay, so dock fishing is was. Nothing really worth taking pictures of: 1 x 27" pike, some decent cats with the young'uns, 2 smallies, some perch and 2 BIG sunfish. (Didn't have the camera with me since I was pouting about the boat...) Okay, so I got back from the trip and decided to spend some time up on the Grand. Cast out a perch coloured spoon that I still had on my baitcaster, and first retrieve a nice little walleye. After a couple more casts I hooked a fish that I'm not familiar with. I've caught smaller versions on a walleye rig, but never on a spoons. If anyone knows what it is, I'd be grateful for the info. Thanks!
  14. From my experiences so far this year, I'm really happy with Suffix lines. Of course, everyone is going to have differing opinions, but I really like it. No matter what you go with.... tight lines!
  15. Thanks Vin. Not a great fight, but a nice fish anyway. Got a fly rig now, we should go get some Dace one evening...
  16. Heading up to a cottage with another family on Wednesday morning and I'm bringing the rods. My buddy isn't much of a fisherman, usually only fishes when I'm there. His 5 year old son is looking forward to fishing with 'Uncle Jay', and I'm excited too. Decided to hit the Grand to test some rods and reels I don't use very often. Had leaders on all of them, since there's some pike up in the lake we will be on, so the sinkers were easy to swap on and off to test cast. After they all passed inspection with the 20Lb PowerPro, I decided to throw on a small Perch patterned spoon to see if any pike were around. 3rd cast I got the best Walter of the season. Not too fat but 23" long. No pics, due to the camera being in my fly vest. The gentleman beside me, who was fishing for walleyes, pulled his jig out of the water and left without saying a word... Hehehe....
  17. Ummm... Yeah... My point was that the price on flash storage is so low right now, and the capacity has increased to the point where transferring data from SD to mSD isn't a difficult or expensive task.
  18. Not familiar with the format of the cards, but from my experience with Garmins and their cards, converting formats, especially SD to mSD isn't a big hassle...
  19. Cheers gentlemen! And with a little luck, I'll have a nice fish-porn post to contribute in a little over a week! Going....
  20. That is awesome! And FAST! Thanks very much. Looking forward to the trip even more now. And you said the magic word, "STEAK"... This particular buddy and I have done some serious beef consumption together, including a couple of 4Lb T-bones, and a pair of monster 5Lb rib-eyes..... I'm so giddy!!!!
  21. Okay, I was just invited to go up to a cottage with a buddy next week. He was offered the cottage, but lacks a boater's card, so he called yours truly. I have no idea what's in this lake, and until an hour ago I'd never even heard of it... Butterfly lake, just South of Lake Joseph at the 169/118 junction. Looks pretty small, but I'm hoping to get some fish out of it anyway. My question is, what will I be hoping to catch? Bass most likely, but is there a chance of hooking any pike or walleyes? In reality, it doesn't matter much. I'm not going to be at work, and that's the important thing, right? Maybe I should just ignore Butterfly and head to another lake.... If you're familiar with the area, any pointers would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!
  22. I can relate to the 'LOUD'... When I was 2, the electrical transformer outside out window got hit. The loudness was only outdone by the beautiful purple spark show... On my wife's first camping trip, just after we were married, we were sleeping in a tent at Sandbanks, and a pine 2 rows away got hit. Not too sure how lightning works, but I was glad to be sleeping on a foam mattress pad that night... And the following year I was watching a storm over Lake O from the comfort of my 15th floor balcony. After the 17th floor balcony got hit, I decided to watch the rest of the storm from indoors. Each and every time, it was scary as heck, but I've always found it to be a huge rush!
  23. I've fished the Pinery for almost 20 years, and although it wouldn't be my first choice to fish, I love camping there, so you take what you can get... The far North end, at the turn for the day-use beach, can sometimes hold a few big bass, it's fairly deep in some holes, and you can get suprises there. The rental area is okay for panfish, cats, and the odd bass usually, but if you really want to find the biggest bass in the park, they're in the culvert, after the waterfall. The opposite side of the intake from the dock, where there's just a dirt path and a rock at the mouth is where you want to go, and cast a worm into the white water under the road.... That's where they are. The other side of that bridge, the 'low' side used to be the best place in the park to fish. Load of bass, pike, bowfin and sunfish, but now it's just too weedy to do anything. The far southern end, the Burley bridge area is actually pretty deep. My wife and I flipped a canoe there, and the spot was well over 12'. Loads of carp, some pike, bass and sunfish. You won't be looking for any record fish there, but there are loads of places to look, loads of fish to catch, and you may just get a nice suprise. Missed going there for the first time in 18 years, due to 2 kids graduating and my refusal to go there when the kids are out of school. Let me know how it was, I'll probably do a weekend there in October.
  24. Spent 30-ish years delivering furniture and appliances, now after a major back injury I basically push a broom. Spend my free time fishing, and having my hobbies pay for my fishing; I make custom knives and edge weapons and do a little custom airbrush painting on the side. www.freewebs.com/criticalair/ <--- Some of my stuff.
