Proposed Military Testing Site in Haliburton/Baptiste/Benoir
Oggie replied to mattaw's topic in General Discussion
Its definitely NIMBYism. I already hear artillery on a daily basis. My camp is 45 minutes from Petawawa so pardon me if I'm not real sympathetic. Our cottage area is mostly hunt camps so your problem will likely land in an area less affluent like ours. Wish we had the political clout of Haliburton.:/ -
Private sector isn't funded by our tax dollars so how they hire is up to the company. Public sector is/should be held to a higher standard. You don't tender purchases in private sector but you're supposed to in the public sector. Thing must be more transparent and accountable.

Belwood lake is full so the outflow will now match the inflow. Lookout brantford and dunnnville. The kitty cats might be swimming up main street. Dan o.

I can't believe she would do that when she's weeks away from an election. She obviously knows she won't even win a minority. My problem is who do you vote for? I can't stand any of them.

Does Carlyle play man on man in his own end? Otherwise how do we explain Phaneuf out at the point?

I wonder how the sponsors feel about Charlie's need to constantly modify their product. It's very self serving and it reflects poorly on the original product. Is nothing ever good enough right out of the package.

Hi Guys. My son caught a jumbo perch over 15" this winter on Simcoe. He wants to have it mounted. Advanced Taxidermy isn't a possibility, he says it's too small a job. Just wondering if anyone can recommend another taxidermist in the Barrie to Guelph to Kincardine area. He'll drive but he doesn't want to just hand it off without a little feedback from someone. Thanks Dan O.

I tried lead core in the Ottawa and I found it difficult to get a good troll going because the bottom is so irregular. I could see it working for suspended fish where you can troll 30 down over 50. It isn't accurate enough IMO to fish at 30' when the overall depth is only 35'. You'll be hung constantly and getting off is a major chore. The other problem is the guys running bouncer don't appreciate the frequent stopping as you try to get off the snag. It took me too long to bring the whole thing back in and then restart the trolling. A small walleye is really hard to detect on that heavy gear so you do troll with a cigar attached. I finally gave up and returned to bouncing. I may try it again for suspended fish. I thin there are more suspended walleye than people realize. Dan O.

That's a pretty short list MM. I know I could add many more! I'm a Leaf fan but this yearly tumble off the cliff is getting old real fast! Maybe Tortorella will be available or Mike Keenan! The dark side of me says these guys have had nice coaches for too long. There was nothing wrong with Maurice, Wilson or Carlyle. Scotty Bowman would lose with the Leaf teams of the last 10 years. It's the lack of good scouting and poor quality players as a result. They would have gone off the cliff last year except it was a 40 game schedule. Dan O.

Its true Gardiner is a highly skilled young dman. Carlyle has allowed him away with all kinds of bad habits. The next coach will need to break all those.

You're right about Phaneuf. He doesn't handle the spotlight very well. I think removing the 'C" would help him. He doesn't need the added pressure and right now he's playing like he is carrying the team on his back. The captainsy is the only think remaining from the Ron Wilson era. The linesmen certainly became the feature act last night. Watch for Don Cherry to go nuts tonight!

So he misses a point blank opportunity at one end and then gloves the puck onto a phili player for a goal. Anew captain next year would be in the works and alot less icetime this year.

How will the late ice out effect opener?
Oggie replied to Old Ironmaker's topic in General Discussion
I hope guys leave the spawners alone , realizing that they aren't very good eating anyway. I see guys keeping these black spawning rainbows and I shudder at the thought of eating them. I realize they want some eggs but the fish is a non-eater. Hopefully the water is high and dirty for opener. It's safer for the fish. Last year the Ottawa River was so low we couldn't launch our boats until early June below Mattawa. Anyone know why that was and if it will happen again this year? Dan O. -
You're so right Crosshairs when you say the Native community has its bad actors just like the Non-Native community. We sometimes forget that and paint the whole first Nations with the same brush. Nice to read your very reasonable input. Maybe we can turn the corner on Nipissing and improve the fishery collectively. DAn O.

Is Phaneuf out of shape? He loses alot of one on ones. Does he smoke? I've heard rumours he does.

And there's the problem. If people don't buy it they wont fish. Its not about the cultural harvest. Time to educate the public. Dan o.
