1. Snuck back to the same spot of my last 2 previou reports...its relatively easy access to walk and we know the ice is good. Same set up, jigs and minnows on the drop off at 20'-25' Fow. No big girls showed today but i got supper . Mysteriously Carmon only got one hit, guess i had the honey holes today. Here's the vid. <param'>http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6F0yET2L_II?fs=1&hl=en_US">
2. Fantastic Lew! Sounds like your loving your new digs.
3. good one Joey, my wife will enjoy that one too.
4. Great job.
5. Great video, great quality too. DONE!
6. Thanks tapout!
7. Ok..i have no idea what/where Nosbonsing is...i assume its a Lake...but JohnnyB is up there this weekend too i think....you cant miss him...he'll be the guy being outfished by the marvelous LakeJess who will also be in attendance. Anyhoo...tight lines this weekend! JD.....its not intentional(well maybe i do get a little kick out of it...hehe) but i know how it is waiting for the ice as long as we did this year....soon friend...soon...hang in there buddy!
8. Hey Bfishermen, I dont know Simcoe but as far as bait goes, i dont think there is a laker anywhere that wont bite a white 4" salted tube jig. Whitefish in my experience can be more fussy, it would help to have a variety, mini tube jigs, swedish pimple, williams half/half spoons, badboyz to name a few, dont be afraid to use bigger baits for whities either, last year a buddy of ours was getting them on 4" white tubes too. I'm sure others will chime in, just a few things there that have worked for me.
9. Awesome dawesome, sounds like a hoot! taking the bubba huh? GOOD MAN! Cant wait for the report...man i love icefishing!
10. TJ...love the rant. What gets me is some of the folks up here in Dryden that complain about the weather and cold year in year out...WHAT? MOVE! to Toronto...lol.
11. Good to hear BL, i know Carmon and tyler hit Bear Narrows last weekend, with all the -20 days and -30 nights the last week everything should be locked up good and safe soon, i still dont think we will get to use the ice road before new year here in Dryden though. I'll see ya the summer after next then Corvy. My wife's folks are in London and St. Thomas. My father in law has a trailer in Erieau, went out for bows 3 years ago...was awesome.
12. LOL...yeah...i thought that was funny too when i was replaying the video, just the ramblings of a guy spending too much time alone. Not long for you guys now Smarty Pantz....looking forward to your ice reports, for someone as addicted to fishing as you(a very healthy addiction i might add) i imagine they are gonna be good. I didn't get my limit in the end Jacques, left with a 17" and two small ones...enuff for a feed. As for the ciggy pack, it wasn't there when i left...thats for sure! Where ya goin JB? i think you already told us all but my brain has frost bite.
13. I'll make a mental note Ahhh...i've seen these symptoms before, its the beginnings of a breakdown of denial, you'll be out there drilling holes soon . Sorry Disco....i'm not in the swing of the icefishing reports just yet, your right...i'm being vague to say the least, the fish were at 20' to 25' FOW. Its a pretty much flat muddy bay....a nice drop off from the shore provides the only real 'structure', we just fished there because of being uncertain of ice thickness elsewhere on the lake, as the good spots are too far to walk out to. White jigs and tail hooked minnows were the ticket, although i did get a hit from a whitiefish on a Yum mini tube and hooked a pike on the same lure as seen in the picture. thats the one i use too, will take the time to do it next time. Thanks Corvy
14. Awesome and unreal at the same time
15. Hi all, Snuck out to the spot we hit on Sunday. No whitefish today, i did see a couple on the x67, they chased but would not commit. However, where the whitefish were scarce the walleye took up the slack. I'm gonna promise myself to re-tie my fluro leaders with the correct knot in futeure...i lost 2 monster walleye right at the hole today, one was close to 30" for sure! bummer. Mind you i dont think i would have kept it, even though i needed just one for my limit, three keeper size is enough for the wife and me, i just would have liked the picture! Here's the pics and vid.....i fished for exactly 2 hours, started slow but as the sun set, the fish turned on......was an awesome sunset on another chilly (-26) afternoon. <param'>http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GY8UMSjLu4s?fs=1&hl=en_US">
16. Funny how that goes, until you realise you have frost nip because you were not registering the cold. Man...thats awesome, will definitely take you up on that some day Corvy. You anywhere near London Ontario? Ahhhhhhh......Jan 1st....LAKERS!!!!!!! Your lucky Mike, nobody in my family fishes or has the remotest interest in fishing, makes me wonder how i got to like it so much, lol, maybe cuz i knew none of the family would ever want to come with me! But seriously, must be good to get out with your bro, i'm hoping my son is into it, at the moment its all about snowmeans (thats how he says 'snowmachine')
17. Yup, i think it is a base camp. I was impressed by the material, way hardier than my Otter. Its thick and heavy, almost felt rubberized, i'm guessing it is the thermal stuff, we had a sunflower heater in there, it was like a sauna!
18. Nope, aint heard the Goon singing yet, was kinda hoping to. As we left the lake we were on in the report we did hear 2 big booms, music to my ears. But that lake is deeper than the goon, we were not sure given the lack of snow and realtively thick 'good' ice whether it had frozen over after the dump of snow. It could have just been that the winds were out of the N and NW when the snow flew, blowing it out of the bay we were in...the debate raged while we were out there....alls i know is its a lousy start to the year as far as ice is concerned. PS....ive sent you a PM.
19. Fantastic catch CPH, always the way eh? no camera and all the coolest things happen, fantatstic catch none the less...congrats.
20. Long live balanced jealousy!!!!
21. Joey, safe ice has been so long coming here....i thought i was gonna be reading Simcoe reports before i got out there this year !!!! But as you can see by my thermometer (pic taken 2 minutes ago) normal service has resumed. Thanks RC, i just googled twittens, thanks for the suggestion but i actually own lots of those already. My problem is that the first year i was here i was ignorant to the effects of extreme cold on your hands, one trip with minus 28 and 30kmh winds with no shelter and i was educated the hard way, real bad frostnip on both hands, now i need gloves to take milk out of the fridge...lol. Thanks Corvy, you ice fishing this year? Thanks Disco, i'm pretty sure you wont have to dig...didn't you guys just get a dump of the white stuff? Yeah...ice does not seem to be the issue...its like you said Terry...its finding "good Ice" I hear ya Jacques, i love whitefish for the table, i did not keep mine because i wknew my wife had supper sorted for the next 2 days, and after that i was at work from 12pm till 10pm until friday so would not get the chance to cook them. The other boys i cannot speak for...guess they had their reasons. The backyard outing....hmmmmmm.....the fish have not been there all year apart from a brief appearance at ice out, but i will be out there sure enough, even if there are no fish, its convenient, and its not always about catching for me....sometimes i just need to smell auger fumes and stare at the hole in the ice for an hour or two and the world becomes a better place
22. LOL....i'm busted. A lot of times i 'read' your awesome reports i get straight into the fish porn, i did the same this time only to start wondering what the heck was going on with the crappie, garpike and largies....hmmmmm....not your typical Northern species...quick scroll to the top and a word for word read revealed all. The pictures are always great Moose...i will read more diligently next time. CONGRATS ON 9 PBs!!!!!!
23. Hi all, Got out today at a local walleye lake. The walleye were shy, my buddy Carmon got a beauty at around 22", the rest of us made do with small eaters. Last year we did really well all over this lake, today however was a slow day. The whitefish were out to play thogh for sure which was great fun while we waited for the wallaye bite which never really came. The trail was not broken in, we were the first ones again this year and despite the deep snow made good time getting in. I got stuck bad in deep snow on the way back...and after quite a few lung fulls of polaris exuast..we were free. Lew, Carmon, Moe, and Tyler were great company as usual,Moe's pop up was a godsend as the temps were around -28 celcius all day. GORGEOUS IF NOT damn FREEZING DAY. SOME VIDEO OF TODAY...NOT AS MUCH AS USUAL...TOO COLD TO TAKE MY GLOVES OFF AND FILM...LOL <param'>http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fKKuI0aLriE?fs=1&hl=en_US">
24. Yeah Bruce, ive been spoiled up here so far, aparently this was normal up here in the '70s, lots of snow and not much fishing till the new year. I was like that yesterday Jacques....all in all about ten inches of slush, then ice, then WATER...then slush/ice and finally 3" of clear ice....just hard to judge how much that will hold and makes you wonder if its not something completely different a few yards in front, behind. left or right. This is soooo late though...its killing me. Thanks LBH, it was nice just to be out. Awesome Mike....waddaya fish for? Thanks Joey...I'm breaking trail with the sleds tomorrow into another lake...i got out today in the bay....the -27 degrees the last couple nights has firmed things up....got one solid hit but failed to connect. Its almost -30 here tonight and did not get above -20 in the day for the last 2 days....loads of sleds on the lake today...bit early for that i think.....but its finally HERE!!!!! I'm getting out tomorrow FL...will post a report...hopefully land my first fish on the ice for this season. Thanks mike....its good to go in our bay...hoping the lake we are gonna check is similar. tomorrow...tomorrow....tommorrow!!!!!! DALE!...missed ya buddy, wont be the same here skunking for brookies and laker fishing on at Vickers. Hopefully the ice is good at Dore and we get some eyes and whities......great to hear from ya bud!
