Joey, safe ice has been so long coming here....i thought i was gonna be reading Simcoe reports before i got out there this year !!!! But as you can see by my thermometer (pic taken 2 minutes ago) normal service has resumed. Thanks RC, i just googled twittens, thanks for the suggestion but i actually own lots of those already. My problem is that the first year i was here i was ignorant to the effects of extreme cold on your hands, one trip with minus 28 and 30kmh winds with no shelter and i was educated the hard way, real bad frostnip on both hands, now i need gloves to take milk out of the fridge...lol. Thanks Corvy, you ice fishing this year? Thanks Disco, i'm pretty sure you wont have to dig...didn't you guys just get a dump of the white stuff? Yeah...ice does not seem to be the issue...its like you said Terry...its finding "good Ice" I hear ya Jacques, i love whitefish for the table, i did not keep mine because i wknew my wife had supper sorted for the next 2 days, and after that i was at work from 12pm till 10pm until friday so would not get the chance to cook them. The other boys i cannot speak for...guess they had their reasons. The backyard outing....hmmmmmm.....the fish have not been there all year apart from a brief appearance at ice out, but i will be out there sure enough, even if there are no fish, its convenient, and its not always about catching for me....sometimes i just need to smell auger fumes and stare at the hole in the ice for an hour or two and the world becomes a better place -
LOL....i'm busted. A lot of times i 'read' your awesome reports i get straight into the fish porn, i did the same this time only to start wondering what the heck was going on with the crappie, garpike and largies....hmmmmm....not your typical Northern species...quick scroll to the top and a word for word read revealed all. The pictures are always great Moose...i will read more diligently next time. CONGRATS ON 9 PBs!!!!!!

Hi all, Got out today at a local walleye lake. The walleye were shy, my buddy Carmon got a beauty at around 22", the rest of us made do with small eaters. Last year we did really well all over this lake, today however was a slow day. The whitefish were out to play thogh for sure which was great fun while we waited for the wallaye bite which never really came. The trail was not broken in, we were the first ones again this year and despite the deep snow made good time getting in. I got stuck bad in deep snow on the way back...and after quite a few lung fulls of polaris exuast..we were free. Lew, Carmon, Moe, and Tyler were great company as usual,Moe's pop up was a godsend as the temps were around -28 celcius all day. GORGEOUS IF NOT damn FREEZING DAY. SOME VIDEO OF TODAY...NOT AS MUCH AS USUAL...TOO COLD TO TAKE MY GLOVES OFF AND FILM...LOL <param'>http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fKKuI0aLriE?fs=1&hl=en_US">

Yeah Bruce, ive been spoiled up here so far, aparently this was normal up here in the '70s, lots of snow and not much fishing till the new year. I was like that yesterday Jacques....all in all about ten inches of slush, then ice, then WATER...then slush/ice and finally 3" of clear ice....just hard to judge how much that will hold and makes you wonder if its not something completely different a few yards in front, behind. left or right. This is soooo late though...its killing me. Thanks LBH, it was nice just to be out. Awesome Mike....waddaya fish for? Thanks Joey...I'm breaking trail with the sleds tomorrow into another lake...i got out today in the bay....the -27 degrees the last couple nights has firmed things up....got one solid hit but failed to connect. Its almost -30 here tonight and did not get above -20 in the day for the last 2 days....loads of sleds on the lake today...bit early for that i think.....but its finally HERE!!!!! I'm getting out tomorrow FL...will post a report...hopefully land my first fish on the ice for this season. Thanks mike....its good to go in our bay...hoping the lake we are gonna check is similar. tomorrow...tomorrow....tommorrow!!!!!! DALE!...missed ya buddy, wont be the same here skunking for brookies and laker fishing on at Vickers. Hopefully the ice is good at Dore and we get some eyes and whities......great to hear from ya bud!

They actually did a search of a property here and found the beer. But carrying that amount of beer 2 kms is hard to fathom.

his was on a local news site today Someone in Dryden managed to steal 63-cases of Labatt's beer from a Transport parked at Husky early Wednesday morning. City Police say the driver stopped for a rest and the culprits walked away with 22-hundred dollars worth of beer. The suspects walked the beer roughly 2-kilometres before driving off on a snowmachine. The culprits left behind one case of suds on the trail. Police say entry was gained by cutting the lock. Officers also located a box containing a fax machine, which was reported stolen from a military transport the same night. Anyone with information is asked to contact Dryden Police or Crimestoppers. Someone is gonna be having a very 'merry' xmas

Thanks SP.....i noticed you joined a slightly colder fishing site too

Awesome stuff Stoty! Thanks for the info on the lure.....i saw those somewhere but hesitated to buy as it seemed like one of those new lures that come out every year that attract anglers rather than fish....i might just buy one or two now. Great advice on safe ice too, i personally have walked on 3" of black ice, there was snow on it but that snow arrived after the ice had formed to that thickness, however i did not feel comfortable fishing on it...personal preference or 'pucker factors' vary....lol. This year has been an nightmare for ice here with the huge dump of snow we had just as the lakes froze. The deep trout lakes should have good ice this year as they missed the snow and locked up just after the stuff dumped...but the shallower walleye lakes are gonna be treacherous, slushy and very dangerous for a while if not all year!

Got out on the ice last Sunday(my computer has been down since i then hence the delayed report). Still not enough ice after 3 weeks since the lake froze...snow...snow...snow...i have grown to hate the stuff...on the bright side the snow makes my snowmachine insurance premium seem a bit more worth it...lol. Anyway...here's my uneventful first line down of a new ice season....should be getting out 'for real' this weekend....YAY! <param'>http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jV4knRVQ3mw?fs=1&hl=en_US">

Dear Mr. JB, I am writing to you to inform you of my utter contempt for you. How dare you only go fishing once in a while (using as your pathetic excuse family and work commitments) yet attract the attention of such magnificent piscatorial specimens, and then shamelessly flaunt said fantastical creatures in a most cruel way through the medium of photography on a public forum. Shame on you once again for being solely responsible for evoking the vilest of emotions (jealousy). To add insult to injury, you do all this unsavoury work at a time when I find myself extraordinarily unable to access safe ice and catch a fish for myself I hate you most thoroughly Yours Sincerely, Limeyangler PS....WTG....AWESOME REPORT, PICS, AND FISH

Hey Ron, great story, glad it had so many happy endings. Cant say i'm in a sympathetic mood though(not that you require or asked for sympathy...lol)because we also got a huge snowfall here this year...my snowbanks are higher than they normally get all winter and that was in 1 week! Please go out and find that guy running the grader and tell him if he ever needs a job come up to Dryden...our guy is incompetent...or is that incontinent...probably both....lol. anyway great story....thanks for the read. Simon

Thats freekin' awesome...what a cool looking beastie!
-
nice Pike...done!
-
My snowmachine is useless too with all this snow, i cant even get on Wabigoon off my lawn as its upto 3'-4' deep on the slope down to the water! I certainly wont be 'breakin' any trails this year! This is true Whopper, Lac Seul was quite the sight at walleye opener....around 5' down on normal levels.

I have sunk into a deep depression....i cant remember the last time i did not fish once in 2 weeks...the physical withdrawal symptoms are almost upon me, the mental symptoms started much earlier. The ice formed in one afternoon a week and a half ago as you said JB, and that evening it started to snow...and has not stopped..i snowblowed everyday last week...the snowdrifts in my yard were upto 5' high. There is no safe ice here at all, and temps are set to be pretty high for this time of the year...with over 2 feet of snow on the ice....1/2"....it dont look good. I did get out today thinking there would be enuff...only to find absolutely no ice at Eagle lake...just a 1" layer of frozen slush with 2 feet of snow on top.....and in front of our house the nice 2" of clear ice with 4" of hard white ice has turned to a similar consistency of the ice we found at Eagle lake.....very depressing....here's 2 pictures from today..... thanks for thinking about me....i have to go to the chemist now and get my medication.....lol

WOW! thoats awesome fishing boys!
-
Yup, brain freeze...lol...that would be it I just swapped over to power pro red stuff from from the berkely 'crystal' stuff.....the PP was awesome for the first week, casted for miles, but was getting loads of wind knots. Now it doesnt even outcast my other reel with berkely crystal still on it, the only reason i have not thrown it in the garbage too is because it 'feels' better fior bite detection, somehow feels heavier and lighter at the same time, reel nice line for straight jigging walters in deep water, oh yeah...unnuver reason i aint canned it is because at $20 a spool i will keep going till i wind knot the whole spool off!!!! wont be long.
-
WOW.....every fish bar one smashed my PB...awesome fishies! Question JB.....did you not swap over to your buddies bait? Great report....not long for the ice by the sounds of your slush filled reels
