What time do you have to be in Oshawa? What time are you planning on crossing the bridge? I'd say take the 407 if you are going to be in Toronto anytime after 7am and before 10am. Take the 404 south to the 401....you will have missed the morning rush into the city in the west end that way, and it only takes a few minutes to to get there. Traffic out the east end of the city is fine on the 401 in the morning. Keep going east on the 401 til you get to Oshawa. Taunton Rd East....hmm....that's a pretty big road....LOL. Do you need to know a good exit? Avoid Simcoe Street if you can...it's a slow drive north. Harmony road is a better route to get up to Taunton. The Harmony exit is strange...you actually get off on Bloor St....you have to turn left on Bloor to the lights and then left on Harmony to go north. If you're going to hit the city during the afternoon rush (2:30pm til 7pm), then stay on the 407 until it ends. The 407 turns into hwy 7. Keep going east thru Pickering, Ajax and Whitby. Once you hit Thickson road (in Whitby), you can come south down to Taunton. Turn left on Taunton into Oshawa. Hope this helps....if anyone else has some advice, chime in!! Good luck!

Killer Whale eats King Salmon caught on fishing line
ccmtcanada replied to splashhopper's topic in General Discussion
LOL...loved that one too!!! The 'conversation' that takes place after the fact is hilarious!! -
I was in a meeting with my VP of Advertising when someone knocked on his door. Another VP came in and said "turn on the TV". My boss said "Which station?". He replied "Any station".

Ok...maybe I'm slow, but I have no idea what you are talking about...LOL.

LOL....that is too funny Mike.

Depends on my mood....LOL.

I'm using 30lb power pro. The reel I use has a 250 yard capacity with 8lb test (same diameter as 8lb mono). I'd say you have enough line for most of the fish....just make sure you use your drag properly! There has been a fish or two though that just runs and runs like I didn't have my drag set....luckily for me both times it spit the hook and they didn't spool me! I'd suggest using at least a 7 foot medium heavy rod...these fish are powerful!!!

Piers are man-made structures that go out into the lake. Could be made of wood or concrete. Here's a pic of one I grabbed from the net.....

Hey now!!! I spent 20 minutes photoshopping the nailpolish out only to have you put it back in.

A day where everyone knows exactly where they were and what they were doing when they heard the news. Hard to believe it was 7 years ago already though. Thanks for the thread Roy....they will never be forgotten.

Well, with bly's success last night, we decided to hit the piers one more time, this time trying a different trib mouth. Talked to a bunch of fellow anglers who said there were lots around...lots of jumping and action. A few hits and a few landed. We found our spot out there and started casting our cleos. Sure enough, we could see lots of action....I was hoping it was just a matter of time before one of us hooked into one. When I first started fishing piers, I just did what everyone else seemed to be doing. Chuck it out there and then start retrieving. I read an article in a magazine that made complete sense so this is what I do now. I cast out as far as I can, count to 5 and then start my retrieve. I fan cast from my spot with the same count. If nothing happens, I cast out, count to 10 and start the whole process again until finally my lure is hitting bottom. Then it's start over again counting to 5. Anyhow, on a 15 count, I felt a quick hit...set the hook and nothing is there. I figured 15 was the number tonight, so I kept at that count. Sure enough, about 10 minutes later, I feel another solid hit and the fish goes beserk!!! Bly started counting how many times it actually cleared the water. It dove deep and then I was reeling like a madman....fully anticipating a jump and sure enough it cleared the water by about 2 feet. Then it dove again and once again reeling like a madman to keep up...this time it jumped 3 times in quick succession. Anyhow, the final count was 9 times!!! Talk about an adrenaline rush. Here's the fish....not as pretty as my last one...this was already brown, but still a ton of fun to fight....measured in at 37 3/4 inches...didn't bother to weigh this one....wanted to get it back in the water as soon as possible.

Hmmm....yeah...our net is pretty big, don't think it'll fit in our tackle box. Anyhow, here's a few more items.... Scale, measuring tape, hook sharpener, scissors, flashlight (if fishing at night), jaw spreaders for pike, lindy glove if you don't like blood (your blood, not the pike's). Not all of those items are for landing them specifically, but will help make an outing more complete.

How long does it take to settle down 15~20mm of rain?
ccmtcanada replied to a topic in General Discussion
Different tributaries will clear at different times even if their watersheds experience the same amount of rain. Tribs with a large watershed will take longer than ones with smaller ones as it takes longer for the water to 'drain' into the flow, and thus clear up. It also depends on how fast the water is moving. There is no single answer to this question, except to head out and observe how different creeks/rivers react to rain. -
I'm with Dan....education first....the fun stuff later.

Why does salmon have more slime and is more smelly than rainbow?
ccmtcanada replied to a topic in General Discussion
So anyways.......the answer is..... Wait...what was the question again? -

Oh man...what a complete shock! I talked to him quite a bit after his tourney win...and he indeed told me that he was really having the time of his life up there....that that fish was the biggest he ever caught. He said it had been a long time since he felt the excitement he felt that day. I'm glad I was there to share in it with him. Very sorry to hear this news....our condolences to you...I'm glad I got the chance to meet him. Here's another picture that I found of him....shortly after the measure-in for the tourney.....

I'd say why not just try it out, but my gut says those trout are no longer there. From the little I know about trout, in order to have a successful spawn, they require cold moving water (for high oxygen content). A pond just wont have that, unless there is a large fountain in it to keep the waters oxegenated. It'll likely get pretty toasty in the middle of the summer months. When you say a while back...how long ago do you mean? If it was just a few years ago, then there may be some of the original trout in there, but if it's 10 years, then if no one has caught one, then I'd say they are gone. I'd think they'd head shallow to feed. Anyhow, like I said, why not give it a try...it sounds like a big pond.

As I mentioned before, if you got it two days ago (Friday) then that was likely the last day of the previous sale. A new sale and flyer started on Saturday morning. The store may have been overstocked and offered the 'sale' price on their own, so you may get lucky...it may be at the same price.
-
I'll check, but I'm pretty sure they were on sale last week. The new flyers start on Saturday, so it was likely an expired advertisement you were looking at.

I have 3 of these....the trays alone are worth the 12.99.

Wow. Un-freaking-believable!!!! After I read your report last year about the BC Sturgeon, I thought that's the best trip anyone can make. Well, I think what I just read tops that one hands down!!! Very envious....the stuff of fantasy....something you'd see in a movie...it looks awesome, but it's not real...it's just acting. You two got to live the stuff of dreams.... Thank you.....thank you....thank you!!!! Congrats to you and Bren...what a trip!!!
