OWWWW!!!! Sprained my index finger...and you said no one gets hurt......

I should...I didn't catch anything up there without her....LOL. We use those glow sticks...put them on top of the floats...when you don't see them anymore it's time to set the hook...LOL. Thanks...most nights it's a bust. More challenging as you can't see what your line is doing, but it can be done with practice.

If you Could Have the Fishing Moment Back Again
ccmtcanada replied to musky_man's topic in General Discussion
Would have to be fishing with my Dad again. Six months before he passed away from cancer, he took me on the last fishing trip of his life. A charter on Lake O for lake trout. I'd love to re-live that day... Here's a pic of his last fish ever caught...a bright moment during a very difficult time. -
So, I've been introduced to this new type of fishing!

Isn't fishing just like hunting....only with a better catch and release survival rate?

Well, after our success earlier in the week, we decided that we'd head out again tonight. The conditions were about the same...pretty good visibility, waters a little faster than normal, but we had a pretty good feeling about it. We started drifting for a bit and it didn't seem like anything was around. Bly had some line tangle issues and was trying to fix that when my float when down....FAST! I set the hook and this fish went crazy!!! It swam to the other side of the bank in about 2 seconds...jumped high into the air and then came straight at me like a bullet! It jumped again close to the bank and I thought the fight was over. It looked like it was going to jump right out of the water and on the bank. But it quickly recovered and jumped yet again in the middle of the pool. Finally, I was able to bring it in nice and easy. Anyhow, here's an entry to team 10...a 32.5" steelhead. After that was done, we got Bly's line issues resolved, I had a break off and had to re-tie. Don't you know it, she says fish on and she's fighting a monster as well! This one looked like it was going to take a bee line to the next pool down stream, but she expertly turned the fish around...managed to avoid a bunch of rocks and brought it closer. Here's a pic near the end of the fight. She lands her new personal best Steelhead, coming in at 32" even and weighing about 12 to 13 pounds!! Another entry for team 1 in the tourney. I landed another smaller 18" fish, but didn't bother with a picture. All in all, 2 hours on a nice warm spring night...cant beat it...especially when there's fish involved.

As it got later, it did get colder and colder...and the water is freezing!! I was exhausted...up at 5am for work and then out fishing at night... Last weekend it was you kickin our butt!!! We decided to try another trib, thinking the home trib would be slow...when I saw your report I

Hey EHG...that's funny...because I'm always amazed at your dead of winter soft water Lake O reports!!! I still haven't had the guts to try that yet... Thanks Kennyman...we are not legends...what I didn't report on is that we were out 4 times in the past few weeks at night and only caught 2 fish bigger than our fists...LOL Didn't have to tell Sydney...she read your post Cliff and yelled out "YAY!!!!" Yep...we use glow sticks. Shhh.....lol You know what I'm talking about....LOL. One out of two isn't bad....we are not pros....we got lucky that night...right place right time...but my daughter is cherubic. Thanks! Burtress and Camillj...I can honestly say there was no photoshopping in this report....LOL.

I was on the 401 heading east when the motorcade was heading west last week. All traffic on my side had stopped...horns honked and then I saw something that was very powerful. Out of the window of one of the bereaved family's cars, a single arm came out...hand balled into a fist and it pumped in the air a few times before it gave a wave of appreciation. I'll never forget that sight.

Help a fella out with his Pike setup??
ccmtcanada replied to digitalkreation's topic in General Discussion
I've never tried it, but I've heard of people using minnows under a float for Pike. Cant's see why it wouldn't work....it works for icefishing. -
Help a fella out with his Pike setup??

Yep...what BillM said. I use 30lb power pro for mainline and either steel or titanium leaders (12 inch). The steel ones crimp easy...the titanium resists that, so even though they are more expensive, they last a lot longer. -
3 fish(small) in front of the house!!! about time

Here's the conversion... 1 U.S. Gallon = 0.83267 Canadian (Imperial) Gallons 1 Can Gallon = 1.201 U.S. Gallons So, 40 US Gallons = 33.3 Canadian Gallons.

Bly and I, like many others here I'm sure, love float fishing for Steelhead, but are not crazy about the weekend crowds. Especially now that the weather is warming up. Anyhow, one way to beat those crowds is to fish at night. Most times we try we get skunked, or catch just one between the two of us. Sure it's a bit more difficult, the numbers usually aren't the same as fishing during the day...but sometimes...you just have a great night....and earlier this past week, Bly and I had that night! We arrived at the creek after sunset and started drifting. The waters were a bit higher and faster than normal...which usually isn't good, but the visibility was great. The first 45 minutes got us nothing...not a hit...not a sniff! Suddenly the fish began to run. We could hear them coming up the rapids just below the pool we were fishing. A slight adjustment to our setups and all meyhem broke loose! Bly caught the first one...a great 30 inch one for Team 1...We affectionately call this "the Solopaddler pose" Very soon after that, she landed her second... A few missed hits...I lost a few big ones after some long fights....but I finally got a nice one. They just kept on coming...more fish running upstream.... As quickly as the bite turned on, it turned off. Bly went 5 for 6 and I was 3 for 5...a few that were lost were some pretty big fish!! What an amazing few hours on the tribs...a great way to end a day. We'll let the weekend warriors walk the banks today...while we get set for a birthday party....our little one turned 7 earlier this week, and her friends are coming over later. Before we left for the evening, she said "Good fishing luck mommy and daddy"....we're convinced she brought us that luck!! Here's a pic from her birthday...

Started out using a vest, but could never remember what pocket I put stuff in....LOL. Got a nice chest pack that works great for me.
