  1. Morning to you too Roy. I'm stuck at work here, but oh well...gotta make money for fishing stuff right? Art...LOL at your 80 degree day...thunderstorms here today and snow by Thursday...jeez...gotta love Canada....
  2. Nice job Kemper! I knew you'd start posting some great results as you got out more and more. Congrats!
  3. Great pics everyone!!! It's great to see pics of the members as youngsters...hopefully some more will post!

  5. Nice work Scott! I was wondering what the trib conditions were like...looks like the little rain we did get didn't blow the rivers out. I wish I could pull them out of the river like you do....wow...what a talent you have.
  6. Hasn't happened to me, but I'd cut the line. I'm sure the thing would spool you pretty quickly.
  7. Nice work on the video! I'm going to give Carp fishing a try this year...thanks for the video...helps me understand a little bit on how to land them. Great job!
  8. True...just read an article...and it said that once the waders were filled, after a brief period of acceleration, you'd just flow along with the current as if you weren't wearing them...matching the speed of the current...no more drag than if you were floating in a lake. Here's the link....from Outdoor Canada http://www.outdoorcanada.ca/special/opin_wading_debate.shtml
  9. Wow...nice haul there! I went ice fishing two times this past winter (my first two times actually), and was thoroughly skunked. It's great to see reports like this....keeps the door open for me to try again next year.
  10. Nice pics Paul! They weren't that boring...seeing water always makes me think "Hmmm...wonder where the fish are in there"....LOL.
  11. Nice work! Perserverence pays off again. You gotta love it when you say "last cast" and you hook into one...congrats!
  12. Yeah....our walleye tended to be on the big side....we're just happy to pull in some nice fish while walleye season is closed! As for your question...I have no idea if they are resident fish or not...
  13. Mike...what a great report! Sorry about the skunk too! I get skunked quite regularly in fact...LOL. Bly and I went steel hunting a week ago and within 30 minutes I had lost 6 leaders because of snags. You'll notice I dont mention those in my reports...haha. I also fished a mouth of a river before the ice had completely come from the river. Also had to dodge ice chunks between drifts. The first time a large sheet of ice crashed against an immovable object, it scared the crap out of me too...LOL. Thought maybe bly had fallen in the water!! Anyhow, keep at it...at least you had some great ice fishing results this year...I never did manage to pull in a fish on the ice.
  14. Hey John! Welcome back to the board. I suppose I'm also a fellow wimp...went ice fishing for the first time this past winter...cant say I'm all that impressed...LOL. I am also a shore fisherman...hope to see some of your reports this year!
  15. Nice work! The open water shots looked awesome....ahhh...come on openers and warmer weather!
  16. LOL Gerritt...can always count on you to bring the conversation into the gutter....
  17. I know!!! The funny thing is that Carole kept casting right in front of it, and pretty much plunked the thing off the head a few times....LOL. We really thought we just sucked at trib fishing...haha.
  18. Hey everyone.... A while ago, someone posted a thread about posting pics with your Dad or Grandfather. It was an awesome thread! I was at my mom's place last night and came across a bunch of pics from when I was a kid. If you have some lying around...scan them and then post some pics...as well as a recent one... Here's my pics... First pic is of my brothers and dad...I'm the funny lookin one with the striped pants on...LOL. This was probably around 1976. My younger brother was afraid of the pike...hehe. My younger brother and I....notice our poles made of small tree branches....used a little fishing line and a bobber. Worms as bait....we'd sit on the dock all day and pull up small fish. I'm the one on the right. Here's me at Bonnie Lake in 1980 Another one of my dad and brothers...getting ready for a day out on the lake...I'm the one in the white shirt. Here's my recent one....at least my fish got bigger as I did...LOL.
  19. Nice report!!! Sounds like even though the bite wasn't really on and the weather didn't cooperate, it was still a nice fishing trip. Congrats on the steelie! It was a nice one!
  20. Ok...Bly and I went out last night to try out luck at some night fishing for steelies on a local trib. We got there around 10pm and put our lines in the water. The conditions seemed prime for some action. About 20 minutes into our drifting, we saw something break the surface!!! Quick!! We adjusted our casting to that area...nothing...no hits. We thought the fish had moved on....then suddenly and BIG splash!!! We aimed our drifts that way!! about 15 minutes later...another HUGE splash...it startled us, but we were pumped...the fish were here and aggressive!! Bly could actually SEE the fish moving through the water. The fish were held in a few deeper pools that we knew were in the area. After a few hours of nothing, we began to question our ability. How is it that all these fish can be in the area and we didn't even get a hit?? Did we suck that badly at this? LOL. Was our roe bad? Were the depths wrong? Our drifts seemed nice and natural, but nothing!! Finally, after 2 hours of this going on, we saw this huge fish heading for the opposite bank....with the little light that was there, we saw it get REAL close to the bank. It then WALKED up on the bank and winked at us ....chattering...actually I belive it was laughing and taunting!!! This beaver was there all night...travelling from deep pool to deep pool. It all made sense after we saw it. To think we wasted hours fishing a section of river that was being patrolled by a beaver. It was after our fish...and the worst thing about it...there was no CO in sight...I bet it didn't have a valid fishing license... . We were duped by a beaver...I can admit it...next time we'll know.....
  21. Thanks! It's not always luck...we get skunked most times we go out!! Yes, the fish had a definite deformity...we didn't care though...it was a nice size and put up a great fight!! Nothing like seeing the float go down.
  22. Thanks everyone for your comments! It sure is nice to hook into these steelies...they put up a great fight that's for sure!! LOL Mike...Yes...my fish is 3/4 inch longer than her PB....but then again...who is counting...LOL Hey...I like that acronym...not sure if were are "muscle", but we are trying to get better at this steelheading thing...
  23. Great report! It's awesome to start out a season with success like that! Even though the conditions of the water weren't the best, you still managed to pull some nice fish out of thre. Congrats!
  24. Great report and pics!!! Didn't seem like your report though cause the pics are clear....LOL. Awesome job...looked like an awesome trip!
  25. The steelhead reports seemed to slow down a bit over the course of the week...and then CANADIANCOPPER posted that awesome report yesterday!!! Well, with that as inspiration, bly and I headed out well before daylight to an eastern trib to try out our luck. The conditions seemed perfect...not quite crystal clear...a little green tinge to the water. We had high hopes for the day. About an hour after drifting, we saw a large steelie hit the surface in our area!! We both started drifting through that area...had a few strikes and then nothing...we though the fish was either spooked or had moved on. Suddenly, bly's float goes under and she sets the hook. Fish on!!! This one put up a great little fight and bly did an awesome job with a little 7 foot rod. She landed this great 26" chrome. She set the hook SOOOO hard that it actually bent right out of shape....LOL Nothing much happened for a while so we moved around a bit. We were drifting a hole with 2 other guys when we saw one jump out of the water again!! We all tried drifting thru that area, but to no avail. Every 20 minutes or so, it would hit the surface so we knew it was still there. We tried a variety of different sized and coloured roe bags at different depths, but it wouldn't take it! I put a pink worm on and I said "one more drift". Well dont you know it, the float goes down and I hook into a big one! I fought it for about 5 minutes, but never managed to get it very close to shore...the drag this one pulled was amazing. It finally broke free, but not before getting a pretty good look at it....this one was easily a 30" fish...maybe longer!! We moved upstream and my float went down again....I set the hook thinking another big one!! What I saw was my float and this small steelie flying towards my head....LOL...it almost smacked me in the face. I brought in another tiny one a little while later, and then mid morning, I saw someone bring one in about 50 feet to my right. I drifted through what I thought was a nice hole and then again, my float went down!! This one was no little one!!! I fought this one for about 5 minutes and was rewarded with this 26.75" female...weighing in at 6.75 pounds. Overall, we went 4 for 5...a great day on the trib for us. (not for guys like CC though...haha). We had to leave mid morning...have to go to my mom's place for the afternoon...who knows how many more we could have caught....oh well!!! With the rain coming, conditions will be muddy again...then cold weather with even snow in the forecast!! It was nice...this is our first report where we both caught steelhead...reminded me of our Walleye excursions. Maybe next weekend we'll get out again.
