Great report and pics....makes me look forward to when they enter the tribs!!! Hope we get some good rains though....or it could be a tough year for them.

Would tomorrow be a good day to go fishing or not?
ccmtcanada replied to 007's topic in General Discussion
I'd go fishing if I were in your shoes. The cold front actually came across yesterday and I had a great night of fishing. Good luck! (if you go) -
Well, we decided to hit a local pier tonight to seek out some salmon, and I had my best night ever fishing for these powerful fish. With the rain we had last night, I figured that as the sun went down there would be more fish heading in from the lake getting ready to stage, and my hunch was right! About 30 minutes into casting, just as my lure was getting close to the pier, I feel a massive hit! This guy went straight down about 15 feet and wouldn't come up!! I couldn't budge him at all, so I just made sure I had tension on the line and I got ready just in case he decided to swim straight up. I lost one the other night when he did that...I couldn't reel fast enough and he spit the hook. Tonight I was ready for him!! After a good 2 minutes of him not budging, he makes a beeline for the surface!! I'm reeling like a madman, but manage to keep up. After another 10 minutes of fighting, bly expertly nets this fish. I ended up being my personal best Chinook...measuring in at 38" and 22lbs 3oz. This fish weighed in at half a pound lighter than blys PB....so she still has the biggest salmon in the family....LOL. I've never managed to land 2 in one night, so I didn't have high hopes tonight either, since we only had just under 2 hours to fish. Wouldn't you know it though...about 15 minutes later, I cast waaaaaayyy out there and another massive hit! This one fought completely different...this one came straight to the surface and tried to shake the hook from it's mouth repeatedly splashing around. Finally it came in...this nice female, measuring in at 37" and weighing 15lbs 10oz. Anyhow, I'll keep at them at the mouths and piers as long as they are around. I'm no longer interested in pursuing them in the tribs. Sure, the crowds can be bad at times, but I just feel better knowing that they are being legitimately hooked. That and they are so much nicer looking when you get them just as they come in from the big lake.

Hey Brian....I hear what you are saying about spots that are crowded. The problem is those places are the ones where the fish are!! We shore anglers have to learn to live with the crowds, as good spots are very few and far between. You likely will not get an awesome producing spot that is not crowded from someone on this board, as generally if they have one, they'd like to keep it that way. One way to try to avoid them is to fish in the middle of the night....crowds tend to thin out a little. I have a few out of the way places (more than an hour away from you), but it took a lot of time to find them. Some were told me under the strictest confidence I wouldn't tell another soul (you generally have to gain their confidence), most from me walking and trying out spots. Networking with the people in those crowded areas is a good way to get new info as well. I have made a few pretty good fishing buddies from those spots...and chances are they'll share with you an out of the way spot or two. Good luck in your quest!!! To me, finding spots like we all are in search of is the Holy Grail of shore fishing!!

You fish from shore or boat? Where are you and how far are you willing to travel? What species of fish are you targeting? You looking for lake spots or trib information? You may want to include more info in your request. I'm not from that area, so I cant help you, but someone else may be willing to share.

What I want to know if why you have that much cat fur?? LOL

Sounded like a good day out there! A slow day of fishing beats a quick day at work anytime in my books. You caught a few fish (or so you SAY you did...no pics....LOL), so at least there was no skunk. Good job!

Bly's Second Salmon - New Personal Best...monster!!!
ccmtcanada posted a topic in General Discussion
Well, with some people joking about why it's me that catches all the Salmon and Bly cant seem to hook into them, the tables were turned tonight....big time! Greencoachdog called it a few days ago by saying "I've got a feeling she's gonna play catch up one of these days soon and it aint gonna be pretty for ya!". I replied to that saying I have done no gloating and that I fully expect her to kick my butt...and soon! Anyhow, onto tonight. We headed off to chuck some spoons at the mouth of a local creek. There were lots of other anglers around and our favourite spots were taken. Oh well...shore fishing means LOTS of improvising!! We could see lots of lightning in the distance, so we knew our outing may be cut short if it got too close. Bly starts casting her glow in the dark cleo, and about 20 minutes into it....when it was only about 2 feet in front of her, this monster attacks the spoon!! It must have followed it in and decided it was now or never. This thing cleared the water by a few feet on a few occasions, but she expertly kept tension on the rod to make sure this one couldn't spit the hook. It tried to run, but it couldn't find the deeper water, so she kept gaining ground on it. Finally...after about 15 minutes, I'm able to net this fish. As soon as I saw it, I knew she crushed my PB (38" and 19.5 pounds). This one measured in at a whopping 40" and 22 pounds 11 ounces!!! She attained her goal of getting at least one Salmon this year, but this one qualifies for an OFAH award...makes it that much sweeter. She needed 5 species to get her avid angler award for the year and this one makes it 6!! (I always said I didn't want my 5th species to be panfish....LOL) Here's the pic.... Oh yeah....this is another entry for Team 9 in the OFC tourney!!!! (we have a pic with the sign) -
Bly and I should be there by Friday evening..... GCD...if you are driving up through Buffalo and into Ontario, then you'll be driving right by our place just east of Toronto. If you need a quick break/rest/coffee/beer/food, please feel free to stop by for an hour or so...or crash at our place to save some cash on your trip. Open invitiation Glen. Cliff

LOL Blaque. I learned the entire Hemispheres album (yes, I still call them albums...LOL). Well, I should be truthful...most solos I never got down. As far as the La Villa solo is concerned, I can play up to the part it goes insane...LOL. Took me a while to work the volume knob and hammer-ons for the beginning of the solo, but I got that part down...once it got super fast, I'm lost. That break in the middle and solo.....man...I close my eyes when I hear that....

LOL...another great report Sean!! Looked like a great time out there...the video was a very nice touch...pretty cool release shots there. Oh yeah....Loved how you prefaced the pictures as well....I had a good laugh....keep up the great work and reports!!!
-
LOL...great one. What I want to know is how did you find that old pic of me...it gives away where I caught the thing...jeez...there goes another hotspot.
-
Yes...you do need lights. We bought the 2 colour bow light and a stern light that sits up about 18". You can get both at Canadian Tire....battery operated. I did make a home made stabilizing bar....pictured here....It goes off one side and is very stable. I can stand up in the canoe without any problems at all!!! I debated on putting one on either side, but decided against it because I wanted one full side open to land the fish. LOL lazybum...I do have a trolling motor for mine. I figure since it's a 30lb thrust motor and I'm using 20 pound line, I shouldn't have to worry about been towed to Rochester...haha.
-
I do the same as MJL for Bullheads...just use the pliers....hold them over the water and shake!!!
