I will never buy another ford product again
ccmtcanada replied to aniceguy's topic in General Discussion
I'm not a mechanic and know little about how a car works. I put the key in, start it up. The pedals make the car go and stop. The wheel by my hands steer it. I've been anal about preventative maintenance with all my vehicles. What this means to me is....regular oil changes, brake pads, muffler/pipes, spark plugs, wires, air filter, timing belt etc... Here's my vehicle history. 1983 Mercury Lynx - Blown head gasket after 70,000 kms. 1985 Cavalier - rack and pinion steering replaced after 70,000 kms. Transmission replaced at 110,000 kms. Got rid of the thing when at 120,000 km the head gasket blew. 1990 Toyota Corolla - Just got rid of it last year. It had almost 400,000 kms on it. The only major things that I ever had done was a few starters, a water pump and a radiator. Air conditioning failed after 12 years. 1998 Honda CRV - Water pump failed at 99,000kms. Fixed under warranty no questions asked. New Rad. One Ball joint. Oh yeah....air conditioning needed recharging after 7 years. Still have the vehicle....it now has 280,000 kms on it and it still runs like new. Before I started buying my own vehicles, my dad bought a second hand mid 70's Corolla for my mom to drive. The thing had around 500,000 kms on it and the body rusted out....the engine was fine. I know all makes/models will have lemons....including the imports. Our Corolla was made in Ontario....no idea where my CRV was made. I've always had luck with Toyota and Honda, so next vehicle will likely be the same. -
Thanks Joe...so...my chest waders likely wouldn't do out there?? LOL. Maybe I'll use a float tube....how far off shore is 360 feet of water??? So what you are telling me is to leave the marshmallows on shore for that outing??? hehe.

When I was up there in June, the pike for me only hit spinners with gold/bronze coloured blades. I'd throw one on that had shiny silver and nothing....throw the other one on and fish on. I also had luck with large orange spinnerbaits....had a nice muskie follow on one of those. Good luck!

I have two units....wrestled with having it all in one or not. Since I'm still new with a boat and still accompany others in their boats, I opted for a handheld Lowrance. That way I can take it on the water in a friend's boat and mark waypoints....or with me where renting is the only option.

I was away last Wednesday til yesterday.....voted my max for the day. Come on everyone! Let's get her up a notch here!!
-
One of our members parked their rig at Lakair...not the trailer though.
-
Like others have said, it's not called the "Bog" for nothing! If you have waders already, maybe invest in a float tube! Good luck out there.
-
Welcome to the board!! Very nice introduction. I don't have a lot of experience hunting pike down, but I was at Lakair this past June and saw a few nice pike and muskie. Good luck!

Great choice! I fished out of Solopaddlers sportspal last week and it's a very stable canoe for sure. Congrats on the purchase and hope to see lots of reports!

Great report and pics guys!!! Awesome job out there.
-
SWEEEEEEEET!!!! Congrats on the PB....a real chunky muskie!!

Here's a few...as much as I LOVE steelhead fishing....I can wait another month I think. These was taken from a protected spot....it was amazing seeing them come in from the big lake and into this tiny little creek....

Very cool report and fish! Sounded pretty exciting! I find I get knots in my power pro when casting. It happens most often if the lure I'm throwing isn't heavy enough....when the rod snaps back after the follow through the line gets caught in the guides and stops for a second causing the knots. It also happens the odd time if it's really windy and I'm casting into it. I will usually throw on a heavy spoon and cast it as far as I can then reel it in....because as someone else mentioned if the line on the spool is too loose, this can also happen.

Wow!! I was just telling Bly that I missed reading your reports. Great pics and a fantastic job by all. Good to hear from you again.

It doesn't matter what battery you used...any 12 volt is fine. 10 feet of water is not really that shallow, so that wouldn't be the issue either. Maybe there were no fish? (not being sarcastic). I fish in lots of areas with no fish...LOL.

Thanks everyone. This will be a learning experience for me for sure! Can't think of a better guide. MTP - I'm not 40 yet...but sometimes I sure feel it...LOL. Mike - see you soon then!
-
Ok...just finished marking gps coordinates on the map so we don't miss any turns....LOL. Almost done on my end....just waiting for Solopaddler to arrive!
-
Depends on how far away I cast. If it's close then I'll just cut my line at the end of the rod. If it's far away then I point the rod where the lure went, hold the spool and pull straight back until it breaks...hopefully breaking at the knot I tied and getting as much line back as possible. Make sure there is NO bend in your rod as that much pressure could damage the rod and the eyes. Oh yeah....be careful of the line coming back at you at a 100 mph if there is any tackle left on it after it breaks.

Sean...for a guy with no boat you sure get out a lot...LOL. Great report again...with great pics. Your reports always have some great tips in them...or at least your learnings. For newbies like myself in the Kawarthas, I take note when you talk about the hot baits etc... Great stuff....again..... So, when are you heading out in waders with the waterproof camera again slaying bass in the rivers?

Looks like enough stuff...just one question...where is MY stuff supposed to go??? LOL. My camera and camcorder are charging as we speak. Just some last minute packing and I'm all set, awaiting you call when you are almost at my place. Should be a blast!

The last time I rented, the "dockside test" consisted of him telling me stuff and me nodding my head.
-
Yep...I put mine in an old peanut butter container and it's fine.
-
Just to give perspective...this is Bly's 15 pound Walleye. I believe it was 32" long....but very fat.
-
I use power pro for just about anything and have never had the line snap from casting. Mind you, I'm not throwing huge muskie lures either.
