Nope ++++++++++++= Checked again yesterday evening, There are now open spots, random, where there was not huts or holes drilled, seems a little odd, but there is open water not the less, stay clear. That being said there was some guy who had parked a silver car and walked out, avoiding the open areas, and stayed upright in spite of the wind. Was fishing in about 6 ft of water. I checked after dark to see that his car had left, and it did, I guess he made it back. Entropy +++++++++= from : http://forums.fishontario.com/thread.jspa;...681?

I checked Ceasarea last night, the ice was very slippery, a number of huts are pulled into the shore. One in particularly was one heck of a hut, with real windows, 360 deg outside lighting, stereo, fully insulated and a wood stove to boot! Out from my place there is only about 6 to 7" of ice left, with water on top making it also very slippery. A hole I drilled 3 weeks is open again and there is a small stream of water flowing into it. Where the water is flowing along the ice it has cut a 3" deep channel into it. At this location last week there was 14" of ice. A big change. I will not be venturing out there anytime soon. Entropy

I was there at 6:50am, to get in line. There were already 4 guys waiting. 20 seconds after I got in line there were another 15 guys getting into line. By 8:00am (opening) there had to be at least 300 people lined up; around the corner and out of sight. Many of the guys near the front of the line that I talked to were there to buy the 50 cal muzzle loader that was on sale. At 8:00 when the doors opened the guys in front of me “moved quickly” through the turnstile – so did I. Then once in the aisle they began to jog to the gun counter – so did I. Then from the cornor of my eye I saw more people running to the counter, I yelled at the guys in front of me to “RUN” – They did! And so did I !! I could not believe I was running – flat out – through a store on Boxing Day to buy an item on sale, but I did! I was number 5 in line and got one of the 8 or so 50 cal. But, it was not until 9:20 that I was able to walk away with the box in arm, paid and registered. They only had about a total of 24 50cal and 45cal on sale. The other 100 or so guys lined up at the gun counter were out of luck. That was an experience. Entropy

Yesterday at about 3:15 pm I got a phone call back from the MNR. They said that they have not released any cougars in the area, but have however assigned a researcher to investigate, some sightings and possible encounters. They said that the letter my farmer friend got would have been from this researcher. They confirmed that the researcher has put out some trail cams, foil lures, and DNA collecting fur trap pads beneath the lures – these are in the area. I did not (guess I should have) asked if the researcher has confirmed a cougar(s) in the area. Entropy

Two weeks ago I went to thank my local farmer for allowing me to hunt on his land ( located near Nestleton). He said that one of his employees had been talking to a landowner (who leases them some land of farm) that the MNR had come and released 6 to 9 cougars (located near Janetville). Yesterday I was out in his field sighting in my bow and when finished I talked to him for a while; about racoon’s damaging up to 30 acres of corn, the damage a deer rack can do to a tractor tire, etc. He sounded excited to remind me about the ‘rumor’ of the cougar release near Janetville, as just last week he received a notice in the mail from the MNR, asking him to report any sightings or incidents with cougars to them. He said that this seems to confirm the Janetville area rumor. While driving home on Saturday evening from western Ontario, I caught a bit of a story / report on the radio. Something about “they think that the highlands will support a population of cougars in the areas with the number of deer, and home that in the future to promote eco-tourism with cougars.” I understand that there once used to be cougars in the area, way back when. But, as a local resident and hunter in the area, I have to admit that if this is the case that I’m rather concerned. Shouldn’t the public be notified? Livestock losses? I’d hope someone or a young child doesn’t get attacked by one? Why the heck wouldn’t they (the MNR) increase the length of the shotgun hunt if this cougar release is partially aimed at controlling the deer population. I’d sure appreciate the extra meat on the table, and I’m sure that local and non-local business would greatly benefit from a longer hunt. If this is true, it does not seem right to me. Anyone have any insight on this? Entropy

On my way home last night there were more than a few snowmobile tracks, both on the road, through the fields, and forest too. I would almost say that there is the same amount of snow now as there was mid-January last year. A little surprised / impressed. Entropy

YA WELL ....... TAKE THAT !!! No you do have a point, I guess it's a matter of media coverage sometimes. Those who live and work in rural or smaller towns, don't often get to hear about the mayhem that is caused with a snowfall, but we all hear how bad it was in T.O. Entropy

No, it was gone when I got there.

Took me 1.5 hrs to get to work that normally would take 50 min. It was worse than I'd expect! Real slick. A taxi on Lakeridge almost lost it right in front of me (headed to me), swerved a bit, threw up some snow, I braced for the impact, but he straightened out. Thank Goodness. Entropy

This was one of them !! I'm sure I saw this one 2 days ago in the field running. "His" field is totaly swamped with geese, as is the driving range to the east, and to the west they are starting to put in another subdivision. To the north there is a newer subdivision and the Casino. I guess it's just a matter of time before they get desperate / start to relocate. Too bad, he was a nice animal = good genes lost.
