We have 3 or 4 but they are not bright enought for my boy. His bedroom is in the basement and ours and our daughter's is on the main floor, he needs more light. I paid $5 per nightlight. 0.25 w LED. The kids pull them out a few times, drop on the floor and the plastic difuser cracks and comes off. lol This wouldn't be a big deal but with bills anywhere from $160 to $260, and hydro rates going up another 10% may first, I'd like to try to help myself.

Both of the lights in mind are currently fitted with either an 9w or 13w CFL. Mater of fact every bulb in my house, garage and 15 outdoor bulbs are all CFLs. I use the normal 'indoor' CFLs outdoors all year, in appropriate fixtures. I can save 5 w x 10 hours a night, x 365 days = 18000 w/hrs = 18 kw/hrs x about 20 cents per kw/hr (all fees, taxes, etc factored into your hydro bill) = $3.60 savings a year per bulb. At that rate a bulb would pay for itself in 2 years if I pay $7.20 for it, and the rest of the years is money in my pocket. That is assuming the bulb lasts that long. Hey if I end up saving 10 w, it will pay for itself in one year. I am finding that a lot of my CFL's need to be replaced more often than I though. My general rule for CFL's is to pay no more than $3.00 a bulb. Entropy

Great site, but looking for a store I can go into. The old fashion way.

What is this Google thing? Have you tried this search? Doesn't help at all.

Where do I buy a couple of LED light bulbs for $8 or less. In my house we leave a table lamp on in the living room and one in the rec room all night for the kids to be able to navigate the house if and when they wake throughout the night. I would to put LED bulbs in them, but am only willing to spend $8 or less. Where do I go? Thanks, Entropy

Thanks for the offer, but getting there would be the problem. I'd buy one and take it to her, but she and her husband are the kind of people that "should" be resouceful. Took a drive though Janetville, talked to a guy and he said that there are a lot of besements flooding. Two of his neighbours. Very big of you to offer. Someone will return the fav. some day I'm sure.

She stay'd home. Tree branches were still coming down when she made her call. Cliff, I'll take you up on that. Should be giving you a call sometime over the next few days. My sister just north of Bellville, said all her trees are down, power lines down, road is closed, now back up genny, and was going to go and try to get the kids from the day care place. Good luck all.

Our local gas station / mechanic has pumped gasoline during an outage in the past. Guess getting in close with him would be a good thing eh. Also, we keep 80 L of gas on hand for this situation. Genny uses about 10 L per 10 hours, so we can go for about 80 hours (3 and 1/3 Days), then it is time for siphon, or go get gas. But, do I trust a cheap generator to run 3 days non stop? Good question.

My wife is supposed to go to Lindsay at about 1:30pm. Let me know what it is like there, then. If you can. She is driving from south of View Lake. Big Cliff, I'd love to see your set up. To be able to plug the whole house into the genny would be great. I would really like a 200 amp manual (or auto) transfer switch, then just choose what breakers to run. The alternative is to back feed through the dryer plug, but that is a no, no.
-
Knowing me I'd still have a small gasoline back up. If the stand by doesn't kick on, the $300 Crappy Tire one would be next.
-
lew, that would be great, but with a young family and home repairs / updating needed, I can't justify the .... how much $5000? Now if I have water damage in my basement, I'm sure my insureance co. will make me get one.

Geee, Big Cliff. Sounds like you might just be a (dare I say) a Prepper. I did just the same thing over the last 2 days and am glad I did. Generator is running. Wish I had a spare one, as back up. Calling in sick in 15 min. I can smell the bacon now. Be Safe.

Still nothing here, but they say it is still coming. Darn, might make it into work tomorrow. ......... Do I have to? lol

Seriously! ---- Thurs, Close to 20 cm of snow ---- Fri, Close to 10 cm of snow Got the snow tires off the van, got rid of the little 4x4 SUV (got a little 2wd car, no snows either), and prep'd the snow blower for summer storage. LOL. Hey, at least the generator is ready to go, and a good thing too with all the ground water, if the power goes out that sump pump needs to keep going. Ice pellets and freezing rain likely Thursday. A series of low pressure systems will give periods of rain to the regions into Wednesday night. On Thursday, a stronger low will arrive from the southwest and combine with a colder airmass from the north. As a result rain is expected to change to ice pellets and freezing rain Thursday morning. The ice pellets and freezing rain are expected to persist through Thursday night and be heavy at times. Poor travel conditions are expected Thursday. In some places, power outages may occur. Conditions are expected to improve Friday. There is still some uncertainty as to the track of the storm and the extent of the cold air Thursday. Environment Canada will monitor this situation closely and will issue warnings as needed as the track of the storm becomes more certain.

Nice, The $1200 one here http://www.ontariotrailer.com/untitled4.html I like the higher side on it over the 5 x 7, but the price is nice. Need a 5x7 with fold down front and higher sides. Just thinking about camping gear bouncing out, and would rather not put plywood sides on, as that is what my current trailer looks like. now would that be ok for future toys, like a sled, or ATV??? long enough? I'd love to get that trailer for $1000 or less. Anyone have any experiance with these TORSION axles? Do they hold up? I can't see myself putting more than 1500 pounds in. Entropy

I'm looking to buy a utility trailer to use for camping, small home renos, firewood, dump runs, etc. I'd like something I can tow behind a sub compact car and a lite SUV. I don't want anything wider than 5.5 ft or longer than 8ft box. I've been entertaining something like this: http://www.homedepot.ca/product/5-by-7-marathon-galvanized-utility-trailer-60-084-tll/979143#BVRRWidgetID Any suggestions? Recomendations, Experiance? Thanks, Entropy

Yeah, Beer was on my list of things to get too. When all the trees are cleared, and your standing around the genny, a beer in hand would be ideal. Entropy

Anyone have a good 'how-to' for canned/bottled game. Had a Newfie friend that said he used to bottle Moose, but never asked him how. Thinking Goose and perhaps a bit of Deer for this fall. Thanks Entropy

What happens when you feed propane to a natural gas stove. I understand that the 'jets' should be changed, but could you just hook it up and keep the knob low? Anyone ever try this? Just doing some thinking for the cabin. Entropy

I've got a '94. Great boat. Go get one. Entropy
